T-Pups at Mavs Game Thread
Mavericks-Minnesota Timberwolves preview
09:18 PM CST on Friday, November 28, 2003
By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning News
7:30 p.m. Saturday, American Airlines Center
TV/RADIO: Ch. 21; ESPN-FM (103.3), KESS-AM (1270, Spanish)
SERIES: Wolves lead 33-29
KEY MATCHUP
Kevin Garnett vs. Antoine Walker
Garnett has become the best all-around forward in the league, with all due apologies to Tim Duncan. If the Wolves ever win a playoff series, he could validate himself as a true MVP candidate. Walker, meanwhile, is a poor man's Garnett. He passes as well as Garnett, although Walker's scoring and rebounding aren't up to Garnett's standards. With Dirk Nowitzki out, Walker will have to offset Garnett as much as he can. They are two entertaining players to watch.
>>> A POOR MAN'S GARNETT?? Wow! R-E-S-P-E-C-T, baby!

RE:T-Pups at Mavs Game Day Thread
Nash and Finley need to come up big for the Mavs to win this one. Walker needs to continue his play.

RE:T-Pups at Mavs Game Day Thread
NO.
Walker must give up at least 10 of his shot attempts to Finley/Nash....
(that is..if he's going to be dominating the ball)

Should they try and activate Steffansson?

Doesn't it suck that this has to be the 2nd of a back to back game? I wonder if nowitzki could come back had the game been tomorrow.

No, because they would have to put Dirk on the IR. Dirk may be back before the minimum 5 games he must sit out if he goes on the IR. I don't believe that we have the option of putting the potato on the IR since he's suspended. And would you seriously rate our chances with Steffansson as better if he replaced one of the 10 other players?

RE:T-Pups at Mavs Game Day Thread
With a healthy Dirk the mavs would have probably been close to a double digit advantage at the final horn. Without Dirk this will be tough. Good News is the game is at home where the Mavs actually have shown the ablilty to play at a high level of basketball, bad news is the game is at home where the Mavs can't afford to lose games while not being able to win any on the road except against teams with totallly decimated lineups and even then it being a chancy thing.
I think the Tpuppies pull a close one out over the Mavs. Losing 2 of our bigs and playing a team like the Tpups will proof too much for the Mavs unless we get heroic efforts out of at least 3 of the remaining Big 5 and a great all around team play. That or Garnett goes out with a sprained ankle during the first couple of minutes.

RE:T-Pups at Mavs Game Day Thread
If TAW is still on this team i'd activate him before Steffanson. If the Mavs were to sit Dirk out for 5 games then that tells you this injury is much more serious than it is being approached.

I agree with the TAW activation, and if Dirk goes on the IR, then the Mavs are in serious doo-doo

mavs come back and show some heart.....110-97....
hey someone has to be the unabashed homer fan....and I guess that burden has fallen to me..... (THE NUGGETS GAME)
after this absolute failure.....I must try to reverse the whip and predict a Mavs loss just on the chance my poor luck will keep!
Mavs- 101
Pups- 117
I hope I suck!...

RE:T-Pups at Mavs Game Day Thread
The Mavs will turn it around this game. Just like Phoenix did after getting blown out in Denver, they came back home to blow the Mavs out the next night. They didn't even have the Matrix and still did it. That's what we must do without Dirk.
I think the player's pride was hurt a little last night, and the effort level will be much higher tonight. Fin will get started much earlier, and Nash won't try and force things as much. They will finish around the bucket much better with the crowd behind them. We will again see the bounce in Jamison's feet, and all things will be right again. Hope never dies does it?
Like I said in another thread, the Mavs have been getting up for the big games better this year with the exception of L.A., and I expect them to get up for this one.
Mavs win 104-96.

RE: T-Pups at Mavs Game Day Thread
The Mavs need to get everyone involved and not make it a one-man show. No excuse not to get Finley and Nash involved early no matter how well Walker and/or Jamison are playing.
I want to see everyone going for rebounds.

Things always look darkest before the dawn, but unfortunately it is still just past midnight for these Mavs.
We drop this one 103-89...

RE:T-Pups at Mavs Game Day Thread
Mavs will win this even without Dirk. Tpups have not shown that they are great on the Road. Mavs are missing the rebounding (15RPG between Dirk and Forston) and thus look for a huge game from Garnett on the boards. I do believe offensively we can shutdown Garnett and SCREW WELL. I am only worried about the overrated PG Sam Cassell. He has been a mavs killer past few seasons. I would look for Howard to get some minutes on Screwell or Cassell.
Mavs win this one with a comeback in the second half
99-92

actually, T-wolves are one of the few teams to have over a .500 winning record on the road. dont underestimated these guys or we will lose. if antoine does nothing but pass and rebound and take 8 shots AND rebound AND leave the offense to the other big two than the mavs will win. oh and also if don nelson would play his jamison more and quit wasting on him than we will win big.

RE:T-Pups at Mavs Game Day Thread
nelson must use jamison tonight alot if he wants to win.
REasons:
1) jamison plays extremely well at home
2)he plays well against sprewell and the t-wolves
3) he can light it up almost like dirk at home if GIVEN THE CHANCE
ARE YOU LISTENING NELLY?????!!!!

T-wolves are a good road team, but the Mavs are a GREAT home team.
Nash will find the Mojo tonight, and Fin, AJ, and AW will all benefit. Look for Delk to hit tonight as well.
Mavs 112 - 98.

RE: T-Pups at Mavs Game Day Thread
Mavs win this one. Finley will probably be more aggressive tonight because it looks like that backcourt is not gonna stop him(I think hoiberg and Hassell will be guarding him). Garnett will of course have a big game, and if they can give Hoiberg some shots( he is leading them in all shooting percentages) this will be a close one. They only average 90 points a game and with both Mavs killas out in hudson and wally, i like our chances in this one.
Mavs 105-96

RE:T-Pups at Mavs Game Day Thread
The Wolves are also coming off a back to back so that cancel's the Mavericks's excuse out for being tired tonight. It appears as though Minnesota plays well when Spree plays well. Finley and Howard should do fine against him. Minnesota is having fits scoring and the Mavericks defense might be the cure. Garnett might have 10 offensive rebounds with Dirk and Fortson out of the lineup.
Expect Candyman to have his best game of the season. Still don't think it will be enough to offset Mavericks' homecourt dominance. Look for another slow first half and a dominate third quarter. I just wish Walker would eliminate the "float shot" from his game. Haven't seem him make one of those yet!
Look for Nash to make up for his erratic play lately. Very frustrating to see him drive into the lane and do what looks a pass that is a shot. Always turns it over down in the paint. He is having the hardest time adjusting to all the new players without a doubt.
Despite all my doom and gloom observations.....Mavericks 93 Minnesota 92. Should be ugly yet exciting.

Good to see Bradley get the start.
I'd rather have Howard starting than Delk, but hopefully he'll still get some minutes tonight.

Finley not being productive with the ball. I think they should run the offense thru Walker with Finley as a spot up jumper. Tallest guy on the court for the Mavs is Walker. Hello small ball!

Looks like they are looking to Finley first option every time. He better start making them if we expect to beat Garnet and friends. These guys can run the floor all night.
