Circular text?
hey do any of you cool computer guys know of any software (or any other way) to type text in a circular pattern?
I know photoshop, but I don't want to spend the money on that... unless that's free anywhere, but i seriously doubt it is.
thanks!

The most comprehensive open-source photoshop-ish program out there that I know of is GIMP.
http://www.gimp.org/
It might have what you need and it might not.

Gimp is awesome. You might check this Gimp help site to see if it will do what you want. I know you can transform text to an ark, or bloated, fisheye, etc... but typing in circles might be harder. I wouldn't be surprised if it would do it though.

A quick Google search did reveal that there are plugins to do text in circular arches, specifically made for doing CD lablels.
I'm a photo editing noob, so not sure how much more help I can be, but it looks like GIMP should be able to do what you want.

BBL, do you have Microsoft Office Word? If you just want a single image, use wordart, which is very simple yet it has a few options if what you want isn't something too extravagant. Otherwise, you can try inkscape or GIMP, which I have never used.

cool, thanks so much, guys. I'll look into GIMP.
I tried to do something with word, but couldn't find anything. I'll try that as well.

In word: Insert Menu> Picture > Word Art. It is very simplistic though, but very easy to use.

GimpShop
Also see GimpShop.
From the description:
"If you’ve never used Photoshop before, you may not appreciate my GIMPshop hack. What I’ve done is renamed and reorganized GIMP’s tools, options, windows, and menus to closely resemble Adobe Photoshop’s menu structure and naming conventions. Many of the menu options and even whole menus were recreated to faithfully reproduce a Photoshop-like experience. After running my GIMPshop hack, you’ll find that Photoshop and the GIMP are strikingly similar."
