Terry's getting some early hype based on his very good preseason:

You aren't the team which is what I was referring to.

I hope Jet does great for the Celts. No reason to want a Mav icon like him to fail...even with that silly looking tattoo. With that said, it was still time to move in a different direction imo.

I'm glad we moved on, but I still miss the guy and wish him well. He was kindofa bonehead, but he was our bonehead and his biggest problem was his size-- which he couldn't change. Other than that, he exuded love for the game, was great for fans and was one of the most clutch player we've ever had.

Jason Terry says he'd like to play for the Dallas Mavericks again one day
link
If the Boston Celtics undergo a rebuilding process this summer, Jason Terry has already said he won't be opposed to sticking around.
He didn't come to Boston to play for mediocre teams surrounded by inexperienced teammates, but he told the Boston Herald this week that he won't request a trade either. He could certainly get dealt assuming president of basketball operations Danny Ainge finds a taker, but the shooting guard said he won't ask for a way out.
That's important to remember so you don't think he's a traitor for saying he wears a Dallas Mavericks jersey "every night" and would like to play for the team again.
"I sure hope so," Terry told KRLD-FM Dallas when asked whether he'll ever wear a Mavericks jersey again. "You know what, I wear it every night anyway. It's my home base. I'm with the Celtics for another two years. I would be more than happy to come back and put the Mavs jersey on and come back and get back on the runway for the Mavericks."
When Terry left Dallas, he did so on great terms. The Mavericks were moving forward from their championship run and looking to keep salary down to deal with the new collective bargaining agreement, and Terry just didn't fit. But after the 35-year old signed with Boston, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban called him a "Maverick for life" and "part of the family."
Cuban added, "Hopefully we’ll be part of JET's (life) after he retires,” but it looks like JET wouldn't mind being part of the organization sooner than that.
|
He'd be a top candidate for "eating a bad contract" in any trade with Boston, but $10.5m over the next two years is pushing it - unless we're talking about Rondo... Although I could see a slight uptick in his production if he re-teamed with Dirk.

Actually I'd rather he just retire and take Harper's job. He has the perfect personality for color commentator.

I wouldn't be opposed to getting Terry back in a couple of years on a vet minimum deal to finish out his career.

His shooting percentages were almost identical to his last season in Dallas and not too far off the mark of his career numbers.. He just took fewer shots.

Hit a few big ones in the playoffs too. Had me thinking they'd push the series to 7.

His assist numbers were down as well. I don't think the Celtics utilized him properly (and he's clearly on the decline in any event).

The dip goes beyond that, though. His pace/minute adjusted statistics were down, not just his per-game totals. I tend to agree with LD. He wasn't really utilized correctly, and he's on the downside of his career.

They totally failed in using him. He never got set up in his sweet spots. I was surprised because I thought for sure Doc Rivers could set him up a little better. It was tough to watch. I considered buying a Terry celtics jersey, I'm glad I didn't.

Down from what? Down from his last season with the Mavs or versus his career... His ws/48 was basically identical..... TS% was up.. TRB% was up.. AST% down.. STL% down.. TOV% identical.. ORating up.. DRating up... WS 48 from .092 to .091

I would have liked to see Terry's effectiveness in more pick and roll situations with KG (or Jeff Green, who showed some great stuff by year's end). His on-the-ball abilities have been vastly underrated for years, though admittedly the '07 Warriors series where he fell apart has something to do with that.

FGAs and assists per 36 both down. If you want advanced stats, his Usage was down, and his PER was down in spite of the slight uptick in efficiency (ts% and lower TOs; PER is sensiti).
His production was down after accounting for the reduced minutes. Why are we even debating this?

Celtics, Nets deal has reached ownership level, league source tells Y! Jason Terry joins Pierce and Garnett in package, source says.

Gerald Wallace? Are you f***ing kidding me? If the Celtics take that steaming pile of a trade, then we need to get on the phone and offer them Cunningham for Rondo immediately.

Huh? Pierce is an expiring, Garnett and Terry have two years left, while Wallace has 4 years left... It's less about the length of the contracts and more about the size - Boston would stand to save almost $11m instantly.

The Nets are going to end up with a $80M luxury tax bill and a good starting lineup that still can't beat the Heat (or the Spurs, or the Thunder, or the Bulls). Good luck.

In all honesty, can anyone explain how a team (the Nets) that is already $25MM over the cap do a trade where they take back almost $10MM more in salary than they're trading away?
Using rough numbers from ESPN, Pierce, KG, and Jet's salaries are around $33MM, and Nets crew is around $23MM.
thanks

Seconded. I thought I had a basic understanding of the new cba but it is obvious I don't.
Do these restrictions only kick in after next year? I remember everyone laughing because they were clearly not an elite team and had no flexibility to change that. ( not that they are an elite team now but you get the point )
