Default Interesting Stats

It probably isn't fair compairing this team to the tops in the NBA, but that is was everyone thought this team was/is, so here goes.

Let's take a look at the efficiency of the top options.

S.A.
Points Per shot: (2 ft= 1 shot)
Duncan: 1.05
Top 5 scorers: 1.00
Overall: .99
Points Allowed Per Shot: .90

L.A.
Points per shot
Kobe: 1.07
Top 5 scorers: 1.08
Overall: 1.04
Points Allowed Per Shot: 1.01

Minny:
Points per shot:
Top 5 scorers: 1.08
KG: 1.07
Overall: 1.05
Points Allowed Per Shot: .97

Sactown:
Points per shot:
Top 5 scorers: 1.13
Peja: 1.24
Overall: 1.11
Points Allowed Per shot: 1.01

Dallas
Points Per shot:
Dirk: 1.07
Top 5 Scorers: 1.07
Overall: 1.03
Points Allowed Per Shot: 1.01

2002-2003 Mavs
Top 5 Scorers: 1.09
Dirk: 1.14
Overall:1.07
Points Allowed Per Shot: 1.01

So what does this tell me. Well a couple things.

1. It is probably about time to stop any comparisons with Minny/Sactown/Spurs/Lakers
2. This team is about the same defensively as last season
3. This team is not very efficient on offense
4. Some changes must be made

Now that we have established there should not be any comparisons to the big 4, yep there no longer is a big 5 in the Western conference, let's see how this team stacks up to the rest of the playoff teams as far as shooting efficiency

Western Conference:
Spurs: Better
Lakers: Worse
Kings: Worse
TPups: Worse
Denver: Better
Houston: Better
Seattle: Worse

So we are the 5th best offensive team among Western Conference playoff teams, not good. It comes as no surprise that this team isn't very good on the defensive side of the ball. What does come as a surprise is the mediocrity on offense.

Default RE: Interesting Stats

Even when this statistic shows the efficiency rate in scoring and defending the scoring, there is left the efficiency in other areas, like steals, blocks, offensive rebounds compared to defensive rebounds, etc.

If we throw in the shots per game the teams have made, we could have the whole picture.

In any way, we still have the PSPG and the PAPG.

2003-2004
Scored 101.6
Allowed 99.4

2002-2003
Scored 103
Allowed 95.2

It looks like the defense is our main problem having allowed 4.2 more points while not scoring 1.4.

But as the Mavs bet for more offense sacrificing some defense, the first wasn't gotten and the latter is a fact.

The Mavs should be scoring 105.8 -extremely high- to compensate, though.
