Leaving at 6 in the a.m. for a trip to Sin City. I'll be staying at Caesar's, and playing poker all around the place. Any suggestions?

The Big Shot on the Stratosphere at night when it is clear. The greatest ride I've ever been on! And the Wheel of Fortune slot machine has been good to me on many occasions. I prefer to play at casinos off the strip where the tables are cheaper and it is less crowded. I'm jealous. We went in December (I think it was my 5th time to go) and I had absolutely no luck. However, my dad paid for his trip on his winnings and then some. Hope you are lucky!

Default RE:Vegas Baby....Vegas

After a 6 a.m. flight from Dallas, we rolled into Vegas at about 9 a.m. in the morning. We had 18 of us (i believe) staying in 4 hotel rooms. We were staying at Caesar's Palace.

After finding out that we couldn't check into our rooms until about 3 p.m., a few friends and I decided to go hit the cardrooms. We ended up at the Mirage, where I played some 3/6. The game was ridiculously loose, but the cards weren't going my way. (example: raise pf with AK, get called 4 ways. AQ3 on the flop, i bet or raise it on every round. An 8 on the river gives another guy two pair with his 83 to beat me.) So after a few long painful hours, I drop some bucks. I go back to the hotel room and nap for awhile, take a shower, and then head out again. I'm sure I ate dinner at some point, but I don't remember it. We went to meet a friend's brother at Mandalay Bay and ended up playing some 4/8 there. Another rough patch of cards, and i lose some more money. That's it for day 1, I'm pretty sure I was awake for about 26 hours.

Day 2 starts off with a 55 dollar tournament with 1 rebuy at the Imperial Palace. About 6 of us enter, and the total entrants are 52. The blind structure made it essentially a crapshoot, but I got lucky at the right time (winning a race with AK against TT) and played some decent poker to take 4th place. After that, I hit up the Bellagio to play some 2/5 NL. Bad idea, I wasn't in the right state of mind, especially after my AK with TPTK on the flop got rivered by two pair again. I was pretty depressed after that, and I think I stayed in the hotel for a while. I went out again around midnight, but I honestly can't remember what I did.

Day 3 we went back to the Bellagio to play some more cards. I decide to go with 4/8 this time, and finally post a winning session, along with plenty of white russians. So, i'm plenty hammered by the time we leave, and we head over to Emeril's restraunt at the MGM grand. Fan-freaking-tastic. If you ever get a chance to go to one of his places, I highly recommend it. One of the best meals I've ever had. After that, we went to Cheetah's (strip club made famous by "Positively Fifth Street".) I saw Scott Fischman there, which I thought was pretty funny. A stripper also told me to "have some self-respect" which was even more funny. After we leave, we head over to Barbary Coast to get some steak 'n' eggs, at about 4 in the morning. I finally get to sleep around 6.

Checkout is at 1 p.m., but our flight doesn't leave until 11 p.m. Sooo, after we get all checked out, one friend and I head back to the Bellagio to play some more 4/8. After about 4 hours of play, I'm up 5 bucks (whoo-ha) but also about 7 white russians. After that, it was about time to go. We headed back to the hotel, grabbed our bags from the concierge, got into a party bus (complete with throbbing techno and pornography in the DVD player) and drove to the airport. Got back to Dallas at approximately 3:35 a.m.

Celebrities seen in Vegas: (These are mainly poker players, so if you don't know, you don't know.) Mel Judah, Gus Hansen, Chip Reese, Phil Ivey, David Sklansky, Warren Sapp, Coolio, Scott Fischman, Freddy Deeb, Can Kim Hua, Billy Gazes, David Grey, Eli Elezra, I'm sure some others.

So there ya go guys, that's the trip report. Now you can make fun of me for spending almost all my time in cardrooms instead of going out.

Did you introduce yourself to Sklansky and marvel at the intricacies of his check raise? Or did you just fawn over him, like an unthinking Christian?

4th place was 244. I missed out on the big money, 3rd place got 450, 2nd 600, 1st 900. As I said, the structure made it really rough. I went out when I was 3rd in chips with 27,000 and the blinds were 5k/10k. If you have under 10bb, you're considered a short-stack. I had under 3, despite the fact that I was 3rd of 4th. I was in the small blind, both other players folded, and I pushed with an A5o. Pretty standard play, and one I would do every time. It just so happened that the big blind woke up with a real hand, KK, and I was out.

Re: Sklansky, I did introduce myself to him, but I had had plenty to drink. The conversation went something like this:

Me: "Mr. Sklansky, i wanted to introduce myself, i love your books, blah blah blah" (I'm sure stuttering and stammering were involved)
DS: "...Great..."

Good job with the 4th place finish, Chaff.

Re Sklansky: I suppose you didn't get to read this precious tidbit on his message board:
Quote:
If there is a God, he is like me. He doesn't want you to merely believe in him. He wants you to appreciate his stuff. I don't like it when a fawning fan says they saw me on TV unless they also talk about the inticacies of my check raise. God doesn't like it if you haven't spent some time marveling how relativity and DNA serve to make the universe wht it is. A fawning fan who merly believes in him but doesn't take the time to study physics and chemistry at all disgusts him. The atheist who does study that stuff will upon death, be surprised if he encounters God, but God will more likely want him around than the bimbo who doesn't truly appreciate him.

Dammit!!! I completely forgot about that post! I should have said something about it. Soon after he put that, we all started quoting "If there is a God, he is like me" - David Sklansky.

Do you post on that board?

I mostly just lurk there. But it doesn't change the fact that I was all-county in 95.

You post there?

Yeah. I stay away from the strategy forums for the most part (I'm not nearly advanced as those guys) but you can find me posting hands in the Multi-table Tournament forums and around other spots (mainly OOT) from time to time under the name ClassicBob.

Sup bro?
