Default Game 5 PGT: Mavs-Spurts

Great response to adversity. I loved the attacking D. Now it's nut-cuttin' time.

I want the Mavs to come out even harder and with more intensity in game 6. F the Spurs, they can't keep up with us if we play like we did tonight.

I think the nose is an issue for manu. you can tell he seems to have breathing trouble at times.
also, heywood is better at center than damp.....hope he starts thursday

That nose injury may have just ended Manu's playoffs.

It definitely seems to have affected him defensively. He doesn't want to lean in for a steal head-first anymore. His whole face looks painful.

Haywood had an effective game. He has also looked lost at times this series, but that was when he was coming off the bench.

The pick-and-roll defense was flawless tonight. I hope they can replicate that next time out.

I'm glad we won big playing our style instead of squeaking by playing their style.

I wish Dirk would be more emotionally open in his post-game interviews.
Of course, so might San Antonio.
But nontheless, I think San Antonio will be forced to make the choice of whetehr to continue doubling Dirk now that the Mavs have effectively remedied what was hindering weak-side production, or whether they go back to single coverage all game 6...

...any guesses?

My guess is they will continue to double. We have only rendered the doubles ONE game really. They'll live with Caron Butler trying to beat us.

Matt "MC Hammer" Carroll scored, so here is the regulatory image.

They'll keep doubling a dare Butler to repeat his performance. I must say, I have my doubts.

Im an optismic fool, Heck Im a Mavs and Cubbies fan

1. DIRK had a below average night
2. Kidd and Wood play to their average tonight...hopefully they can continue the trend
3. Manu and Duncan look tire to me
4. The Mavs have not put a good offensive effort in the series

One game at a time baby

Given how much they sat around during the regular season, they're probably short on glycogen/game shape.....attack them both on thursday from the jumpball.

If we win Game 6, I can't see how we drop Game 7 with the momentum in our favor at home. But obviously, losing Game 6 = losing. So I'm taking a W in game 6 however possible. If it takes Hill, Duncan, Manu and Parker all leaving the game from injury within the first few minutes (Najera is starting I guess ) and a 2 point win against Mason and Temple...I'll take it.

Rick has already discussed the timing and urgency of recieving the ball on the weak side, and attacking when a 4 or 5 is closing out on you. caron will continue to get high percentage drives if the doubles keep coming. I must say I don't have full faith in Caron's jumpshot, but he himself in tonite's press conference acknowledged the need for quick slashing from the weak side prior to SA's rotation closing those narrow oppurtunities.

Even if Shawn and Caron don't finish their drives early, I would encourage them to continue to drive in the direction of Duncan at every oppurtunity.

As long as Caron attacks, we'll be okay on offense. If he does his sidestep dribble shot, troubles.

Tonight, he would penetrate and usually got a close bucket or drew contact. A couple times he just caught and shoot, more so in the second half, but was more decisive about his shot than I've seen him all series long. In fact, he was almost hyper-aggressive (only one assist and he got a little hard headed on two breakaways). His confidence is up at home. Hopefully, it carries over to San Antonio.

Defensively, Marion played the most minutes he's played in a game. He just locks Manu the crap down. He's slowed down Durant, Bryant and Melo? What's a crook-nosed Manu?

He was major but so was Haywood. He was wrecking havoc with the fouls on their bigs, which also loosened up the middle and offensive glass for us, and turned away 4 shots while playing big stretches against TD without fouling. A game.

JJB/Kidd did their thing to drive the break and rotate the ball. 11 assists combined. Kidd with his all around game 10/7/7/2 with only one turnover. JJB was sloppy (5 TOs) but helped keep the in the paint game going when CB went out.

Dirk got to lay low a bit. He got a bit flustered at the end of the second quarter but kept going to the hole. I thought he also took advantage of his one-on-ones appropriately and crashed the boards well in the first quarter.

JET and Najera were role players tonight.

I thought Rick made a big gamble in the third quarter when he played all the starters down into the four minute mark or so. At some point, Jason had played a possible 32 of 35 minutes. Ballsy, Rick. Respect, Ironman#2. If the lead had whittled to say 12, we would've been done for in the fourth but the gamble paid off and the blowout was secured during that stretch.

Can't wait for Thursday!

Marion's on-the-ball defense on manu is one of the biggest keys to pulling out this series.

I gotta actually take that claim back since he played 32 in game one (also win) and in game 3 (28) but considering this game was only in play for about 2.5-3 quarters, he played his biggest share of meaningful minutes in game series to date in game six (26 of 30-36).

Shockingly, Manu had his worst game of the series. 7 points on 2/7 shooting with four turnovers. Aces.

Very funny during the introductions. Champ had a huge bandage on his big blue horse nose.

I think that is the key for the game, The Mavs must continue to attack these guys in the offensive end, make them play defense and spend some energy even if it is throwing the ball inside to Wood to make Tim play some defense.

Tim takes a break when Damp is on the game, he gambles and rotate everywhere but with Wood he must account for some kind of offense in there

If Damp is on the game he must use his 6 fouls on Duncan and tha's it

If Damp is on the game he must use his 6 fouls on Duncan and tha's it
Yep, keep attacking, attacking and attacking!!

Dallas has a +1.4 MOV this series. So that pretty much guarantees a Mavs victory...

If the Mavs stay aggressive, they can win in San Antonio. Honestly, the fans deserve a seventh game (with a Mavs win, of course )

Does anybody know why Damp didn't even get on the floor? Rick didn't put him out there even during trash time...I wonder if he is in RC's doghouse for something.

When I clicked on this thread I thought is was going to be all smiles and high-fives, but it's mostly just Cadbane acting like an asshole again...

How many flame wars is this guy allowed to start before he finally gets banned? (if he was a Spurs fan he'd already be gone...)
