In honor of his biopic that's releasing in theaters this week, I've been listening to a lot of this man lately:
Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis
When I was dead broke, man I couldn't picture this
50 inch screen, money green leather sofa
Got two rides, a limousine with a chauffeur
Phone bill about two G's flat
No need to worry, my accountant handles that
And my whole crew is loungin'
Celebratin' every day, no more public housin'

People haven't heard of Biggie Smalls on the radio?
Or was that meant for the folks talking about Scandanavian death metal bands?

The radio? Do you find new music on MTV as well, or is that too new age?
The interwebs took over the music industry a long time ago. You should join up.

The New Year - s/t
Holy shit, I love this album. AND the band is from Dallas. How did I go all this time without learning this? Seriously, I am embarrassed.
These guys, the Kadane brothers, were the key contributors to Bedhead, the well-known and influential slowcore band from the 90's. Anyways, this latest album of theirs is greatness, and it's more accessible than Bedhead and earlier New Year stuff, which was less varied and slower-paced. The songwriting is great, with simple, every-man lyrics to which anyone can relate. And they have an incredible ability to craft patient songs with melodies that slowly crescendo into beautiful and emotional finales. Their music requires a bit of patience- it all clicked for me on the 4th listen, but it's well worth the wait.

There was a place in my old hometown of Duncanville where I would do that all the time. Well, as often as possible.

If "CD" is in reference to the title of the thread, then you should look at the date of the first post. This thread's been goin' since you were 10 years old, and waaay back then, the compact disc's reign as the mainstream music format was only in the beginning stages of its decline.
I only recently made the switch to downloaded music, and I must say that, while I don't particularly miss the extra cost, I do miss the benefits of tangible artwork and albums.

I miss the album covers the most, and taking care of the vinyl. Those days of taking care of your needle and tediously wiping that LP to remove any possible finger prints are long gone.

My dad had a great vinyl collection that I inherited from him. The sound quality of new vinyl and a great turntable are still unparalleled. There's nothing like zero compression. Of course, there's the upkeep and gradual degradation of the medium, but that kind of makes it a part of you.
As far as what I am listening to nowadays, my favorite drum and bass producer from the UK recently released an EP. He goes by BCee and the vinyl is catalog SPEAR025 and is called 'Generations.' I am pretty sure it's available for download, as well.
Here's a YouTube of 'Generations'; I suggest clicking the 'HQ' Tab, kicking back, and waiting for the truth to drop at about 1:08.
Enjoy the weekend, everyone, I know I will

I still buy CDs. If there's a new cd i want, it's often less than $9.99 the week it comes out. I download music as well, but there's just something about having that CD - the artwork, plus the ability to wave my outstretched arms over the plethora of music in my home office...
