In preparation of the Jimmy Buffett concert on Tuesday, I am breaking out the old coolection. Recently on Kazaa, I found the obscure Jimmy Buffett song "Please take your fifteen-year-old drunken girlfriend home." I listen to it over and over. It makes me smile.

Nina Simone died today in France at the age of 70...you'll find her death in the headlines.
If you've never heard her sing, you must.
Trust me.
That's what I have on tonight !

I'm familiar, I have a whole group of friends who used to force me to
listen to her all the time. I'm not a fan...but still, i'll acknowledge the
loss to the music world.
I'm actually surprised Sturm didn't have anything to say about it!

Just read this thread... was devastated that Ms. Simone died. Talk about one of the greats... I know Billie Holliday is a legend-- and I like her, too-- but I'll take Nina any day. "My baby just cares... for me..."
And what a true maverick in all regards. As of two years ago, she was living in France with her ridiculously younger young stud of a boyfriend. Love it!
May she rest in peace. She was very sure of who she was-- very sure of her talent-- and didn't care what you thought of her. A true great who blazed trails for all ensuing women in music.
And the heartbreak and whisky in her voice... sigh... "Please don't let me be... misunderstood..."

The White Stripes.
Ben Kweller.
Placebo.
Some old G-Love and Special Sauce.
"get along 76ers, Charles Barkley, dissed Larry Bird.
Get Along 76ers,
Dr. J, Moses Malone,
Get Along 76ers,
Jerry Stackhouse and Iverson."
On Dooby's recommendation and because I was intrigued by the title, Jimmy Buffett.

Oh that's soooo three weeks ago.
What you all need now is the new Dandy Warhols album - Welcome to the Monkey House.
Oh my!!! It RULES SO FREAKIN' MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought Elephant was good (as did every reviewer in the world) but this kicks
it's arse so hard and so far away.
I'm making an early call for album of the year.
It's so so so awesome, that even Courtney Taylor-Taylors awful new hair do
is starting to look good.

Alot of you must be foreign. I have never even heard of most of this stuff. The kinda new Johny Cash CD sucks as a whole but has about 3 or 4 songs on it that are absolutely incredible. I saw the White Stripes on Conan and they were good but nothing great. It is interesting how they pull it off with only 2 members, Iexpect to see more groups try the same.

RAMMSTEIN... great stuff...
"Engel (English Version)"
Live in virtue, no desire
In the grave an angel's choir
You look to heaven and wonder why
No one can see them in the sky
Just as the clouds have gone to sleep
Angels can be seen in heaven's keep
Alone in fear they question why
Goddamn not an angel when I die
Angels live, they never die
Apart from us, behind the sky
They're fading souls who've turned to ice
So ashen white in paradise
Just as the clouds have gone to sleep
Angels can be seen in heaven's keep
Alone in fear they question why
Goddamn not an angel when I die
Goddamn an angel when I die
Heaven must be hell in the sky

<< Take me home tonight
where there's music and there's people
who are young and alive
driving in your car
I never never want to go home
because I haven't got one anymore
Take me home tonight
because I want to see people
and I want to see life
driving in your car
oh please don't drop me home
because it's not my home, it's their home
and I'm welcome no more
And if a double-decker bus
crashes in to us
to die by your side
is such a heavenly way to die
and if a ten ton truck
kills the both of us
to die by your side
well the pleasure, the privilege is mine
Take me home tonight
take me anywhere, I don't care
I don't care, I don't care
and in the darkened underpass
I thought Oh God, my chance has come at last
but then a strange fear gripped me
and I just couldn't ask
Take me home tonight
oh take me anywhere, I don't care
I don't care, I don't care
driving in your car
I never never want to go home
because I haven't got one
no, I haven't got one
And if a double-decker bus
crashes in to us
to die by your side
is such a heavenly way to die
and if a ten ton truck
kills the both of us
to die by your side
well the pleasure, the privilege is mine
There is a light that never goes out
There is a light that never goes out
There is a light that never goes out
There is a light that never goes out

Sing me to sleep
I'm tired and I
I want to go to bed
Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
And then leave me alone
Don't try to wake me in the morning
'Cause I will be gone
Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I will feel so glad to go
Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
I don't want to wake up
On my own anymore
Sing to me
Sing to me
I don't want to wake up
On my own anymore
Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart

Fidel, do you need a Smiths support group? Maybe a nice 12 step de-Smith-itization program?
I just bought Hot Hot Heat's "Makeup the Breakdown" and the Kills.
Veruca, Dandy Warhols aren't out until JULY here. Why? Do you have any idea?

I can't decide whether or not I NEED need the Hot Hot Heat, or just want it. I really
like Naked In The City, and Bandages is good...i think I need a free copy.
The Kills on the other hand, I think i'll buy this week. It's fantastic.
I can't believe the delay is soooo huge on the Dandys. It comes out on the 19th of May here.
My guess is that they could be planning to tour it hear and Europe later in the year, so they want the album out in advance. My understanding is that they only play phone boothed sized venues in the US, where they play 1000+ venues here. I'm hoping it's because they're going to come out in July to play Splendour In The Grass (a two day music festival on the North Coast of NSW).....but who knows.
I noticed that the Star Spangles album comes out in June in Japan, July in the UK & August in the US (who knows what that means for me). Record companies are a beast i stopped trying to understand a long long time ago

<< MECHANICAL ANIMALS:
We were neurophobic and perfect
the day that we lost our souls

And I was a hand grenade

You were automatic and as hollow as the "o" in god
I am never gonna be the one for you
I am never gonna save the world from you
But they'll never be good for you
Or bad to you
They'll never be anything
Anything at all
You were my mechanical bride
You were phenobarbidoll
A manniqueen of depression

<< "Miles Away"
As the cars go by under the sun like an enemy
You Wonder
You Wonder
You Wonder
As a spider comes and looks at you like an enemy
You Wonder
You Wonder
You Wonder
Yeah Miles, miles away
She's hurting people in a better world
Miles, miles away
Dressed again in the hot water
You're more beautiful than ever
Looking in the car's rear view mirror
Floor is hard uncomforted
By the second time she wondered she hungered she hungers
like a killers wife
As the cars go by
As the cars go by
As the cars go by
Yeah as the cars go by
Miles, miles away
She's hurting people in a better world
Miles, miles away
Dressed again in the hot water
Well you're more beautiful than ever
Looking in the car's rear view mirror
You're more beautiful than ever
Miles, Miles away
Miles, Miles away

I've got a pre-release copy of Radiohead's "Hail to the Thief"... still evaluating, but I like it. More in the vein of their earlier material but with some of the ambient electronica of Kid A and Amnesiac. Good stuff, but as with all Radiohead it takes a while to really get a good feel for it.
(Caveat emptor: Radiohead could sing Kajagoogoo karaoke and I would love it. I think they're simply brilliant.)

Compilation CD's I've burned. But, the one I'm listening to over and over have these songs on it. There favorites of mine and they really have no reason to them.
Rolling Stones (Start Me Up), Fleetwood Mac (Go Your Own Way), Pink Floyd (Learning To Fly), Led Zepplin (D'yer Maker), Creedence Clearwater (Have You Ever Seen The Rain?), George Thorogood (Who Do You Love?), Boston (More Than A Feeling), John Lennon (Imagine), Van Morrison (Brown Eyed Girl), Stevie Nicks/Don Henley (Leather and Lace), The Ramones (I Wanna Be Sedated), The Beatles (Hey Jude), Fleetwood Mac (Landslide), Bob Segar (Old Time Rock and Roll), Bay City Rollers (Saturday Night).
