In fact, the *only* player with a higher PPP on a significant amount of post touches is Millsap, at 1.08. But Millsap is 10 spots below Dirk in post-up points.
So "one-trick, can only shoot," Dirk, at 37, is THE best post player in the NBA...

Dirk's "one trick" is being awesome at basketball.

@townbrad
I asked Pop about Kareem's "one-trick-pony" comment. "That doesn't sound like Kareem," Pop said, adding of Dirk...

Kareem seems to be an idiot. If i was at 36000 points in the NBA, i would keep my mouth shut.

Totally agree. You should never "punch down". Kareem's on top. He should just enjoy the view. Opening his mouth he only degrades himself and his legacy. Keep it classy, Big Guy.

Uhh...
A. Dirk is undeniably a superior player to Gus Johnson.
B. Dirk was a *more* diverse offensive player than KAJ or Malone. KAJ still seems to be vastly confused in thinking Dirk is solely a shooter.
C. Prime Dirk was a better defensive rebounder than KAJ and Malone, especially in the playoffs.
You didn't address any of the facts, you tired-old shitbag.

thought you care ;)
He would not mind playing 20 years on the same team.
If he feels as he does not, he will play one more year
He doesn't need pain medication before the game he is playing all natural, or so.

Dirk about to pass Kareem
Dirk on pace for his 17th season with 17ppg and only Kareem had more with 18. 2 more seasons and he will be the all time leader in the seasonsplayed/points category. Dirk is playing near his career average the past several games so I know he can do it. Lets go Dirk!!!

Your graphic regarding Karl Malone is wrong. He got there 17 times as well, not 13. Dirk has a chance to tie him after this season. Malone made it 17 times between 86-87 and 2002-03. Kobe is missing there completely. Kobe has done it 16 times so far (like Dirk), but is probably missing it this season.

Tim MacMahon
ESPN Staff Writer
Dirk Nowitzki on the possibility of center becoming his primary position for the rest of his career: "I'm ready for everything, whatever it may be. I think there's a few dominant forces at center that I'd rather not see, but other than that, we all know that it's not a post-up league anymore. It's a pick-and-roll league, it's a movement league, it's a transition, line-your-guy-up, drive-it league. The league has gone smaller and smaller and smaller, so if that's an option for us, great."
Nowitzki, who moved to center when the Mavs shook up the starting lineup before snapping their five-game losing streak Monday in Charlotte, has thrived offensively and held up as a rebounder in limited exposure at the position this season. According to data from nbawowy.com, Nowitzki has averaged 24.9 points and 11.1 rebounds per 36 minutes as a center. The Mavs have outscored their opponents by 69 points in 215 minutes with Nowitzki as the big man.

@SportsCenter: Dirk Nowitzki has now tied former teammate Steve Nash for 15th on the all-time 3-pointers made list (1,685).

@espn_macmahon: Kareem is the only player ever to average 18+ points with 50+ eFG% at age 37+. Dirk this season: 18.8 ppg, 52.1 eFG%.
@coopmavs: And Kareem wasn't shooting from deep. This is becoming a truly remarkable season for Dirk. Playoffs or no

Pretty impressive. I was surprised that Karl Malone isn't on that list. He narrowly missed it with .499 eFG% in 2000-01

He could easily play at least 5 more years (or more) in a Sam Perkins/Robert Horry role. Grab some rebounds, hit some jumpers.
But the question is, would he want to do that, and would WE want to see him like that...
and jesus Kareem, that facebook thing just made me mad. He "ended the controversy" by repeating the exact same incorrect position.

Here's a pretty decent interview by our own tcat075; Tim Cato over at Mavs Moneyball (basically the new BG, but he's a better writer)... Not a bad interview, considering who he's talking to: ESPN's Chris Broussard explains how Dirk Nowitzki is different from Kobe Bryant

@espn_macmahon: Dirk's path to the playoffs has never been more difficult. http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/maver...ey-to-playoffs
Quote:
A 22-point, 11-rebound night is kind of ho-hum for Nowitzki when the stakes are high. After all, he's one of four players in NBA history with career postseason averages of at least 25 points and 10 rebounds per game. So it surprised absolutely nobody associated with the Mavs that Nowitzki came up with his best performance in weeks with a playoff berth there for the taking.
"That's why he still plays," said guard J.J. Barea, the only other player on the Mavs roster who was a member of the championship team. "He still plays for games like this. You can see he loves it. He loves when games are tough and we're away. Especially in games like this, he comes up big. He's having fun."
