Mavericks tried pulling Steve Nash from retirement this summer'
Marc Stein, ESPN Senior Writer
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/13...state-warriors

(the article is a little longer - but here is the Mavs paragraph)
Sources said as recently as late June -- when Nash played in longtime teammate Dirk Nowitzki's annual charity baseball game -- the Dallas Mavericks were still hoping to lobby Nash to consider unretiring and reuniting with Nowitzki as a spot-duty point guard for the coming season. ESPN.com reported in March that the Cleveland Cavaliers -- at the behest of Cavs general manager David Griffin and former Cavs exec Raja Bell, also former Nash colleagues in Phoenix -- likewise tried last season to persuade Nash to push for a buyout from the Lakers that would allow him to team up with LeBron James in Cleveland as a third point guard.

Thank god Nash wasn't interested. Even re-signing Rondo would've been better than paying Nash same money as D-Will and not have him play a single minute.

I hope we find a way to bring him back.....He cant play anymore but we have done worse over the years and having Nash here would be AWESOME...even if he doesn't play.

We can use him as a spot up 3 pt shooter in game winning situations

Pretty much any story is thread-worthy this time of year... But, boy, am I glad this didn't happen. Steve Nash is done-done.

Steve Nash may be done as a player, but it would be sweet to see him on the bench with Dirk. Between the memories and his potential coaching presence, he'd be a sweet get.

I would love to have Nash in the organization in virtually any role.

I'm 100% on board with Nash as a coach -- a living legend like him on the sidelines could really benefit our developmental players the same way Kidd's experience is helping those young guys in Milwaukee to blossom.

I think how the Warriors are using him is really smart. Sounds like he's going to help guys develop shooting routines and things like that. Arguably the best shooter in the history of the sport. I'd love to see him in a similar role with the Mavs.
