Similar but different Clipper trade
I don't think they would make this trade but if they were seriously dumb enough to consider Best for Ely straight up they might be dumb enough to do this. This would be awesome from a mavs perspectiveallas trades: SF Eduardo Najera (3.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 0.5 apg in 15.7 minutes)
PG Travis Best (3.5 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 2.4 apg in 15.9 minutes)
Dallas receives: PF Chris Wilcox (10.0 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.3 apg in 26.2 minutes)
PF Melvin Ely (4.8 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 0.9 apg in 18.4 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +7.5 ppg, +4.5 rpg, and -0.7 apg.
L.A. Clippers trades: PF Chris Wilcox (10.0 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.3 apg in 26.2 minutes)
PF Melvin Ely (4.8 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 0.9 apg in 18.4 minutes)
L.A. Clippers receives: SF Eduardo Najera (3.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 0.5 apg in 19 games)
PG Travis Best (3.5 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 2.4 apg in 19 games)
Change in team outlook: -7.5 ppg, -4.5 rpg, and +0.7 apg.
TRADE ACCEPTED
Due to Dallas being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Dallas had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

You have been assigned Trade ID number 1339064
If you are looking for reasons for Clips to do the deal they get a true point and a great hustle guy, the reasons the mavs do it are very obvious.

RE:Similar but different Clipper trade
Actually that's not a dumb trade at all. Najera would sell tickets in the LA area with its huge Hispanic population. Sterling is all about the money and Najera would generate more moeny from ticket sales than he would be paid in salary. AND Najera is locked in at a reasonable amount for a few more years (Sterling really likes that).

Clippers aren't moving Wilcox who is starting to come on. With Brand, Kaman and Wilcox they have something there.

I'd almost do it to get rid of Best alone. But to get two more big men, yes I'd do it in a heart beat.
And Chicago JK Sterling is the anti-Cuban. He'll sacrifice winning games anyday to make a buck. MP makes a good point about Najera selling tickets. Neither Ely or Wilcox can come anywhere within the ballpark of Najera in generating tickets sales for Sterling.

RE: Similar but different Clipper trade
If the Clippers would be dumb enough to do this trade, the Mavs better be all over it.
However, I'll settle on the Best for Ely deal if there really is an offer there.

They just said something about a Best for Ely trade on NBA fastbreak. I think it might go down.

Best didn't play tonight and it looks like he's the odd man out since Delk is the bakup at pg. You can expect the Mavs to be burning the lines trying to get something for Best.

RE:Similar but different Clipper trade
I heard that too, but it sounded like DA was probably pulling it out of his own middle rear pocket. I'd be all for it, though. I'd hate to lose Eddie, just cause I like the guy's hustle, but to pick up two PF's and dump Worst, it'd be worth it.

Ely played tonight. That is not normal for players who are about to be traded - they normally sit out.

L.A. Clippers trades: SG Marko Jaric (7.9 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 3.7 apg in 23.4 minutes)
PF Melvin Ely (4.8 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 0.9 apg in 18.4 minutes)
PF Josh Moore (4.8 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 0.9 apg in 18.4 minutes)
L.A. Clippers receives: C Shawn Bradley (3.1 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 0.1 apg in 17 games)
PG Travis Best (3.5 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 2.4 apg in 19 games)
Change in team outlook: -6.1 ppg, -2.0 rpg, and -2.1 apg.
TRADE ACCEPTED
Don't know, even, if I'd do this, but Best and Bradley are Donald Sterling's type of players--cheap.
Ely and Jaric are still pretty young and may have some talent. Josh Moore joins Stefansson on the developmental roster.
