Since we probably have another month before Lewis makes his decision, why don't we just play around with hypotheticals again . . .

Dallas trades: C Shawn Bradley (4.1 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 0.4 apg in 14.3 minutes)
PG Nick Van Exel (18.4 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 6.6 apg in 34.7 minutes)
Dallas receives: PF PJ Brown (8.4 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 1.3 apg in 32.0 minutes)
PG Charlie Ward (5.2 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.2 apg in 16.8 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -8.9 ppg, +5.0 rpg, and -2.5 apg.

New Orleans trades: SF George Lynch (3.8 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.2 apg in 19.8 minutes)
PF PJ Brown (8.4 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 1.3 apg in 32.0 minutes)
C Elden Campbell (13.9 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 1.3 apg in 28.0 minutes)
New Orleans receives: SF Latrell Sprewell (19.4 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 3.9 apg in 81 games)
PF Kurt Thomas (13.9 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 1.1 apg in 82 games)
Change in team outlook: +7.2 ppg, -8.0 rpg, and +1.2 apg.

New York trades: SF Latrell Sprewell (19.4 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 3.9 apg in 41.1 minutes)
PG Charlie Ward (5.2 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.2 apg in 16.8 minutes)
PF Kurt Thomas (13.9 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 1.1 apg in 33.8 minutes)
New York receives: C Shawn Bradley (4.1 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 0.4 apg in 53 games)
PG Nick Van Exel (18.4 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 6.6 apg in 72 games)
SF George Lynch (3.8 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.2 apg in 45 games)
C Elden Campbell (13.9 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 1.3 apg in 77 games)
Change in team outlook: +1.7 ppg, +3.0 rpg, and +1.3 apg.

TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Dallas, New Orleans, and New York being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Dallas, New Orleans, and New York had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Why Dallas does this:

They get P.J. Brown, who I think is worth more than a Van Exel. The guy constantly makes one of the all-defensive teams every year. He's a good rebounder and a decent inside scorer.

Starting Lineup:

PG Steve Nash
SG Michael Finley
SF Dirk Nowitzki
PF P.J. Brown
C Raef Lafrentz

Why New Orleans does this:

They have a glut in the front court with Campbell, Brown, Nailon, and Magloire. They've already talked about moving Campbell as he's in the last year of his contract and they have Magloire to replace him at center. They've always needed a stud shooting guard and get that in Sprewell who'll replace Wesley in the starting lineup and gives them one of the best backcourts in the east with Davis.

Starting Lineup
PG Baron Davis
SG Latrell Sprewell
SF Jamal Mashburn
PF Kurt Thomas
C Jamaal Magloire/Lee Nailon

Why New York does this:

They get their point guard in Van Exel plus a better than average center in Elden Campbell.

Starting Lineup
PG Nick Van Exel
SG Allan Houston
SF George Lynch
PF Antonio McDyess
C Elden Campbell

So we´re trading nick VanE and Shawn Bradley for Ward and PJ?

I am not even sure if Bradley for PJ STRAIGHT would make sense, so why should we throw in VanE to get Ward? Horrible trade for the mavs ...

well, i've seen P.J. Brown play in many games and he's definitely a defensive force IMO. there's a reason why he got second all-defensive team in 2001, 1999, and 1998. i still don't understand why we're trying to add more offense when we need more interior defense. p.j. brown is a definite, clear upgrade when it comes to the mavs defense. i think he's a better defender than kurt thomas. plus we get rid of bradley's FIVE year contract and put in brown's 1 year contract plus ward's 2 year contract, which frees us up a little more in FA.

nve's trade value is at its highest right now and his value will keep going down if he plays backup on the mavs this year. especially if we get lewis, that should make nve expendable as he won't be happy with less minutes IMO.

brown is old.

and i hate ward with a fiery passion.

this trade is grossly overinflates the value of brown, and absolutely molests the mavericks on so many different levels its ridiculous. it will never, and i mean nnnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvvvvvv vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrr happen.

what if charlotte also pitched in either magloire or nailon to the mavs? both are great young front court players.

I like Brown. But Ward would be worse than Eisley as a backup point for this team. Given the importance of the pg role, particularly for this team, and the risk of Nash's legs, its a bad trade for Dallas.

As of right now any trade that doestn allow Mavs to get a serviceable and proven pg and a banger for NVE then im not for it. Nash is more important then any defense presence ot me that why I think NVE more of a need then PJ or KT. I actually like PJ I even like Campbell better but we need NAsh rest too.

Brown is ok and I definitely believe he could help us more than Bradley but the rest of the trade makes no sense. If we could do Brown straight up for Bradley?? Now that I would do.
