I just have one bit to say, and it probably will get dismissed. I know it's a completely different sport, but I thought the Cowboys were incapable of competing with the "elite" of their sport until December 19th came around.
It's already been stated but we played the 2nd night of a back to back against arguably the best team in the league and we couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in the first half. I understand over-reacting when you really hope for a certain outcome but I think some perspective is needed. Honestly, if this were March I'd be more concerned.

It was pathetic, but I didn't lose any sleep over it. I'm not worried.

I think LA/Boston represent an elite that doesn't quite exist in the NFL. Perhaps the Colts but even then, I would bet the Vegas oddsmakers don't favor anybody in the NFL as much as either the Celtics or Lakers.

Why are we freaking out when we beat them the first time? Yeah it was a blow but blow outs happen. Keep ya heads up.

-I have often wondered what Kobe's a$$ tasted like;
-Last night, I found out what his $hyt tasted like;
-Now I can move on, we all should collectively as Mavs fans.
-Dirk did his best but I have to believe Damp would've kept that little Bynum tweener out of the paint. I have to believe Damp would've blocked 2 or so shots. I have to believe Damp would've gotten some rebounds and place us closer to there length advantage.
-Bottom line is this "to be a great fan, you absolutely have to be delusional"; I'm four exits south from delusion, im polishing my mavs championship 2010 ring right now.

I wish I could think of a better example, but a regular season game doesn't tell all.

Great. All we need now is for Marc Cuban to become Stern's favorite son, and we can beat the Lakers. Brilliant. Thanks.

Like I said, I wish I had a better example. Fortunately, both us already know I got my message across, though I did know you would pretend not to understand.

Its dumb to pretend that a loss like this is meaningless. It means something, if only that we'll have to endure more Lakers press on the front pages for a while. And just for that, I'm ticked. And yours is not just a bad example, it's completely off the wall to think that the Mavs would be able to come back and beat the Lakers in the playoffs in the same way the Heat came back to beat the Mavs. If anything, it makes a great example for a point almost completely opposite of the point you wanted to make.

Dirka, I appreciate your attempt, but honestly the Mavs were the better team in the regular season just as they were in the playoffs.
Still, I think a lot of people here are severely underestimating the power of a healthy Dampier. He's been the single biggest indicator of our success so far.

So should LA call it quits because the Cavs and Denver whooped their ass?

One of the things this game highlights is that despite what Gooden gives us (which is great at times) he is not a backup Dampier. That's great if both are healthy. We have 2 looks we can give from the center position. But if we are in need of one style or the other, we are still 1 deep at the center position.
It also highlights our weakness on the perimeter d, our need for a second star, Terry's slump (-er, streakiness), and the potential ineffectiveness of Marion on offense.
If these hadn't been themes going into the game, I'd be fine with blowing it off as just another loss.

i agree w/ those who have been saying RC shouldn't have started JJ. this led to some matchup problems for us out of the gate. would've been a good time to get Josh back in the starting lineup. maybe he's stoked and starts strong. w/out Damp we maybe could've used a spark,any spark, on the 2nd night of a B2B. Carlisle is slumping as badly as Terry these days it seems. sometimes teams need to be kept on their toes. i liked Phil Jackson's timeout like 30 seconds into the game. going against the grain sometimes pays dividends. it's a long season. what was RC's recent sex analogy again? he's been coaching from a missionary position lately.

+rep for you, that's hilarious
SMC007 - Rick's quote from December was that they need "to not make such hard work out of sex", referring to letting a team back into the game and making hard work out of what should have been an easy victory.
