Screw that #5 pick - rookies aren't going to help Dirk win a ring...

(but Miller & Foye would have been nice...)

Great trade for the Wizards. They vault up a couple spots in the East. And i guess we can cross one more name of our wish list---Pecherov

Minnesota isn't stock piling picks to hold on to them. They have a deal or two coming for sure.

That's one route or just build a young nucleus of talent and give it time to grow...be the new wave Portland or OKC.

I don't know. What better way for a new GM to put his stamp on an organization?

I can understand the desire to get younger, but why trade away a good young player in Foye? I really don't understand Minnesota, and I have to say that I feel sorry for those fans.

I mean seriously, unless they somehow get lucky and have Rubio or Harden fall into their laps, who is Minnesota gunning for with that pick? Thabeet and Hill don't make a lot of sense when you consider they already have Love and Jefferson. I'm not sure who they take at five that's really all that much better than Foye.

Seems like a fair deal to me.

Miller's scoring fell off quite a bit this year. I don't think he alone was worth the #5 pick in the draft.

Foy's still kind of young but he's been in the league three years. You wouldn't expect him to make a huge leap at this point. He is what he is which is a marginal starter/good backup. Maybe he'll look better on a good team (at least a good offensive team).

David Aldridge just said that the Wiz had three firm offers for the #5 pick, and Dallas was one of them. Problem was, Dallas wasn't willing to part with Terry or Howard.

Yeah, but Foye was pretty injured his second year (I should know, he rotted on my fantasy bench that year) so last year was his second full year really. And he still put up 16 points a game. He's not a world-beater, but I can't see who Minnesota is going to pick at that point that will have a bigger impact. I don't know, I really don't like a lot of the players that are slotted to go at that point in the draft, especially when you remove the big men, which you have to if you are Minnesota since your two best players are big men.

Maybe Harden is available, if he is then maybe this deal goes up in my opinion, but I really don't see Harden and Rubio still being on the board if teams are smart enough. What's left is a bunch of pretty unproven players, who lack the upside to justify how unproven they are. The only guy out of that bunch I like is Curry, but even with him, what's his upside? Is it that much higher than Foye's? No one is a bigger Curry fan than me, but I can't see his ceiling being much higher.

This is what I don't get.

Same. As good as he was this year for us, his contract is still not a good one. I'd love to get it off of the books.

90% of all the trades the Mavs fail to pull off upset me. This one actually makes me happy. It would be great to get out from under Terry's 3yr/30mil, and get rid of Howard's antics, but giving away a good chunk of our very limited talent for a 5th pick in a draft that goes 3-5 deep just doesnt make sense.

My feelings on this depend. If we really are trying to actively trade expiring contracts for big-time talent to try to actually make a run at the championship, this was a good no-trade. If we are going to sit on our butts all summer and do nothing, this will tick me off because we might as well blow this thing up. So again, pressure is on you Donnie to get something done here.

I think reality has to start hitting that Cuban has to be the one really pulling the strings. I think a lot of people a lot closer to the situation than we are feel that is the case. Donnie just has the connections and does the talking and gathering of info...he feeds it up to Cuban and he goes from there.

Minnesota now has four first round draft picks. It is very clear they are stockpiling first rounders to move up in the draft. They are very very high on Rubio. But I will ask you this, if Rubio didn't want to go to Memphis... why in the hell would he want to go to Minnesota?

As for Washington, boy do they have an influx of guards. Arenas/Javaris/Foye/Young/DeShawn/Miller/James/Butler, there are just not enough minutes to distribute between them. Miller/Foye would have helped Dallas out big time--I know we had nothing close to the #5 pick overall, but man that package woulda been our backup PG (and PG of the future) and our starting SG all in one swoop.

Well if #5 and change gets you that.

Would you make a deal of Jet or Josh for Foye and Miller? I know it's not the same...but the pieces connect in some form or fashion.

In a heartbeat

Kidd/Foye/Barea
Miller/Terry
MLE/Wright
Dirk/Bass
Damp/Hollins

or

Kidd/Foye/Barea
Miller/Wright
Howard/Singleton
Dirk/Bass
Damp/MLE/Hollins

would both be an upgrade to what we have now.

We would still have stack's contract to play with, the MLE, Damp and Bass sign and trade possibilities...

Getting rid of Howard or JET isn't really a big chunk of the talent. Especially if it was getting rid of JET's one dimensional offense. Not even sure why the Wiz would even take on his contract.

In my head I know it would have made for a good deal to get JET's contract off the books with such a trade but in my heart I'm to big a JET fan to ever want to see that happen.

I think because they gave up the lottery pick but if i'm the Wiz i'm feeling rather good about myself. Two solid guys in return for a pick that may or may not pan out. Its always tricky with these drafts but this year is one of the trickiest i've seen.

I wouldn't have felt bad trading Jet straight up for Foye. With Miller? I don't see how anyone wouldn't do it. That 40% field goal percentage is scary though. Seems like its transferring over from college as well.

To Minnesota: Etan Thomas, Oleksiy Pecherov, Darius Songaila and the number 5 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft

Looks like cocky #5 is refusing to play in Minnesota. Newspapers are reporting that he'll play in Spain for 2 years. Rumors say that there is a conflict between the young draftee and the Wolves management who wants him to play this year. Who knows.

So from drafting three point guards in the first round on draft night, the Timberwolves netted themselves one point guard.

All in all, not bad...

I disagree with minny's thinking but it always seemed they had not been thrilled with Foye, they were trying to trade him all off season, probably think of him as a bit of a tweener with injury concerns, imho he is a sg that should flourish in the right system
