Maybe I can answer that BBL....
The Yankees=Lakers=Duke=USC=Red Wings
All successful franchises with (more often than not) arrogant fans.
edit: which, funny enough, is about the same reason I refuse to buy anything electronic with a piece of fruit as a logo.

That's some of it right there, plus I've always liked UNC. Then you have to hear guys like Dukie V ranting and raving about how Duke is a program that does it the right way and how amazing Coach K is.
It also helps that they get the most annoying SOBs on their roster - Chrissy Prissy, Wojo, Redick, and Paulus just to name a few. Even guys like Battier are highly annoying. Sure he's an intelligent guy, but it's a smarmy type of intelligence. Like his pledge during his senior year to not say any cliches in an interview. I mean who does that? Someone who thinks he's a big fish in a small pond, that's who.

Ok, got it - so, basically, it's jealousy.
I do get the Yankees analogy (that's actually the conclusion I came to when discussing with my friends). Duke is the only Yankee-like team I root for. So I have seen it from the other side. I don't like the Yankees, lakers, USC, etc. But I don't loathe them or get pissed off if they win. I don't see how people get this extreme hatred for teams that aren't a natural rival for their own team.
FIN, you liking unc, of course it makes sense to hate duke (like I said). I don't have issue with that stance.
I do get annoyed with Dick Vitale. I think most duke fans (I actually have spoken to many about this) actually hate the fact that he fawns all over them so obviously. It is sickening.
One last thing - if you ever badmouth the greatest college basketball player of all-time (who also had a good pro career) again, we shall engage in fisticuffs.

Hey U2. I can't help but notice there's a prominent local football team missing from your equation.
(not that I'm saying Cowboy fans are arrogant....just that the team itself is well hated.)

For the 27 straight year, I watched exactly zero NCAA tournament games.
It's hard. I train and I train for this, and it always feels so good when it's over...
edit: I see both teams shot a combined 39% from the field. Wow. Sorry I missed that.

Well that's really cause butler skewed it low. 34% compared to Duke's 44%. And most of that was due to Hayward going 2-11 (I think that is where he ended up). Great D by singler!

Damned close, guy. Right ending, wrong team. Nice call though.

The crowd is going wild on one end and is silent on the other. Butler needs something magical to happen. Jon Scheyer runs around for a few seconds trying to get the inbounds pass, knowing that Butler will try to foul him immediately should he receive the pass. Unfortunately for Duke, Scheyer can't get open and Kyle Singler becomes the second option. Singler is able to get open for a split second, but that's all he needs. Brian Zoubek passes in to Singler. BUT OH NO, the pass is low and Singler can't get his hands on it cleanly. The ball ricochets off his knee and directly to Gordon Hayward, who frantically kisses the ball off the glass for a one point lead with just two seconds remaining. Duke has no timeouts remaining, as they used their final one to keep a possession alive about a minute earlier. Boy do they wish they had that timeout now. Coach K is yelling instructions from his tiny mouth by the sidelines, waving to the left, to the right, backwards, forwards! Zoubek stalls as he picks the ball up out of bounds under the basket. His pass catches Nolan Smith in stride as he streaks towards half court. One second on the clock! Smith hurls a desperation heave from 50 feet that sails wide of the basket by about 10 feet. BUTLER WINS. The TV cameras zoom around the crowd to pick up the celebration and depression. They find Christian Laettner, who has his hand over his face. The cameras zoom back to the court, where they focus on Scheyer, pulling an Adam Morrison at mid court. They zoom to Coach K's face as he watches another coach half his age jump into a pile of players not much younger than he. Singler tries to comfort Scheyer, but he waves off his teammate as he rolls around on the court, sobbing and banging his fists on the hard surface, not caring if he hurts his hands. Finally Scheyer sits upright, with his face buried in his knees. Matt Howard approaches him to offer a routine "good game." Scheyer gives a slight nod before resuming his hysterical calls to a God that frowned upon him and his teammates on this Monday night. Why God, why? Why does my career have to end like this? It was OUR time! What happened?
BUTLER HAPPENED

It was a really, really exciting game dude. I'm totally in agreement that the NBA is a far, far superior product, but shooting percentage or not, you deprived yourself of a highly entertaining and intense 2 hours of sports by not watching.

I have no idea how you are able to sleep at night. March Madness is the greatest thing in sports.

All i'm saying is that everyone on this board should be ecstatic that Duke won. I'm 2-for-2 this year with my teams winning championships (Saints and Duke - I don't have a college football team). Can the Mavs and Cubs be next?

That was a fun game for sure. I was hoping Butler would win but man they got so close it was exciting and that's what any sports fan wants...
And to those that claimed that I should have included the greatest Football franchise in my list I will say that I have never ever ever met an arrogant Cowboys fan. We only speak the truth.

Nice game, I suppose...I only watched that last 40 seconds or so...
The Butler guy missing the jumper, the Duke Free Throws, the Butler Prayer to end the game.
I think the only other tournament action I watched was UT getting beat...so much for March Madness, I was able to do other things and see the final seconds...I think I'll try this again next year!!!

Why? What else would you say? There is nothing I enjoy experiencing more than March Madness. A lot of people I talk to agree with me. I don't think it's that preposterous to say that.
I mean, there's the World Cup, perhaps the Olympics. Maybe the Super Bowl. But for me, none of those things come close to the fun of March Madness, when I can watch any two teams play and totally immerse myself in the game, no matter how obscure the schools happen to be.

Well if that's your cup of tea, ok. I was much more excited about opening day for the baseball season than the championship game last night.
The tournament is cool, and I do watch some of the games, despite having zero interest in college basketball during the regular season, but the actual basketball being played these days at the college level is not very interesting, and it takes away from the overall experience quite a bit imo.

I'm with jthig on this one.
I was more stoked about Rangers opening day than I was the NCAA Basketball Championship...heck, I forgot the game was on, until I flipped off my DVR from last nights 2 hours of 24...only to catch the final few seconds of the game.
At least I got to see that and know who the two teams are the played in the final...but had I simply flipped the TV off, I wouldn't have known about the game last night...
This makes me think of that thread in the Mavs section (Dirk or Mavs fan)...I'm quite simply a DALLAS area fan...all the Dallas Pro Teams, if they are in the playoffs I watch, if they are not in the playoffs, I find something else to do.
I enjoy the sports, but not enough to care about other teams or even learn about the other teams...it's the Dallas teams or nothing else...and as I've mentioned in the past...the great game of soccer and the World Cup. Yes, I will be tuned in for this years World Cup!!! That is my favorite tournament, between the games, the players and the national fans - worldwide...
For some reason college sports just don't grab my interest, but hey, that's just me...I do watch from time to time, but for the most part it's rare.

haha yeah, I was hoping Hayward's shot at the buzzer could have miraculously gone in. But he made it a lot closer than I could have imagined.
This was the kind of game I was expecting: low scoring, right at about the 60 point mark. Butler hadn't allowed 60 points in any game of the tourney.
