It would be interesting to know what the fourth team would have been...But this works for everyone...I'm kinda hoping that toronto didn't get anything but the admiration of marion and agent. And our thanks of course.

An update on Stack's future, also from Stein's Twitter:
"Grizz will waive Stack and buy him out for 2 mil by Aug. 10 with Mavs cash. It says here Stack will be an underrated FA find for someone"

The Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night moved to the brink of completing a sign-and-trade deal after successfully recruiting the Memphis Grizzlies to help complete a three-team transaction that will send Marion to Dallas, according to NBA front-office sources.
Sources told ESPN.com that the trade will also send Jerry Stackhouse to the Grizzlies, with one source close to the process saying that a trade call with the league office to formalize the deal has been planned for Thursday, indicating that all sides have agreed in principle.
After strong signals the deal would expand to include a fourth team -- with sources telling ESPN.com that the Mavericks called several teams Wednesday trying to recruit an additional trade partner -- sources have confirmed that the deal will only involve three teams.
"The deal changed," a source said.
The known parameters of the deal call for Marion to receive a five-year contract in the region of $40 million from the Mavericks and land Stackhouse in Memphis, where he will be bought out by the Grizzlies -- with cash furnished by Dallas -- for $2 million by Aug. 10. Toronto will receive unspecified draft considerations and/or cash, but the involvement of a fourth team virtually assures that other players from the Mavericks and Grizzlies will be involved.

Yeah baby! Great job, Mark and Donnie! This is a VERY nice upgrade for virtually NOTHING! Now if we just sign Gortat without Orlando messing up things this will have been an extremely successful off-season that should set us up perfectly for acquiring a superstar next off-season.
We should really start trying to acquire some future 1st rounders with our expirings of George and Williams, if possible. That will assist us in the S&T plan with the DUST chip later on,.

Impossible to say without knowing whether there are any other players coming to Dallas. There could be options/non-guarantees in the later years, too. We'll get the details eventually.

Hey, if five years is what it takes to seal the deal than I've got no problem with it. The important thing is we have Marion for the Dirk championship window of the next 3-4 seasons.
I really think we will have a truly legitimate shot at landing a superstar next off-season. We just need to continue to work in acquiring picks to sweeten the deal for the other team just to further win their cooperation. Our future is looking bright.

The heavy favorite is easily Bosh. Disgruntled superstar on an Eastern Conference team who is from Dallas with a chance to compete for a championship in his hometown and get paid more than he could anywhere else. Makes tons of sense.

We won't have cap room but we'll have sign and trade pieces in the event that a big name FA wants to force a trade to Dallas.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the predicted cap drop will play in our favor next off-season. Any advantage we can get (acquiring more picks to offer) we should look at.

Dallas Mavericks land Marion, source says
09:04 PM CDT on Wednesday, July 8, 2009
By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning News
esefko@dallasnews.com
The Dallas Mavericks finally pushed the ball over the goal line, scoring big with the trade for Shawn Marion from Toronto.
An NBA source said Wednesday that the deal for the 6-7 forward will happen and that a trade call with the NBA office had been set up for today. Barring unforeseen circumstances, the deal will go through today.
All the details weren't known. But it's a sure thing that Jerry Stackhouse is the principle piece moving from the Mavericks to Toronto. But it is likely Stackhouse will move on from there.
It matters not for Stackhouse, because he will be an unrestricted free agent when he is bought out by the team that eventually ends up with him. That team, which is believed to be Memphis or Oklahoma City, will absorb a $2 million salary, the guaranteed portion of his 2009-2010 contract.
Other players could be involved in the deal, although none of the Mavericks' key personnel will be involved.
The Mavericks had been close to completing a deal for Marion for two days, but had to find a third team to help facilitate the deal by taking on Stackhouse's salary.
The Raptors had to dump some salary to help clear room to sign their primary free-agent target, Hedo Turkoglu.
The Mavericks now have a potential starting lineup of Marcin Gortat, Dirk Nowitzki, Shawn Marion, Josh Howard and Jason Kidd, with reigning sixth man of the year Jason Terry coming off the bench.

Not sure if it's been posted yet.
But apparently he landed him.

We can run like the old suns but we have also Kidd (against SG)/Josh/Marion/Gortat/Damp for defense. The Suns basically had Bell and Marion for defense...

With this unit we seem more well balanced then that old Suns team was.
