i dont really like this trade for the bulls. They get 2 good big men but they are deep there. They should have gotten Mo Pete too

Bulls got robbed. You have to like the Raptors chances now. They needed to get rid of their load at the 4 and 5 position with Moiso and Bosh developing and in the process they get more scoring which they can use and they don't even touch MO Pete nor Alvin Williams. Raptors have been making good moves since this offseason.

Report: Bulls send F Rose to Raptors in six-player deal

November 29, 2003
CHICAGO (Ticker) - The Chicago Bulls and Toronto Raptors reportedly have completed a six-player trade that sends Jalen Rose to Canada.

Late Saturday afternoon, ESPN Radio 1000 in Chicago reported that the Bulls sent Rose and forwards Donyell Marshall and Lonny Baxter to the Raptors for forwards Antonio Davis, Jerome Williams and Chris Jefferies.

Neither side has confirmed the deal. It had been reported for more than a week that Rose would be traded to Toronto.

Rose would give the Raptors a formidable 1-2 scoring punch, alongside Vince Carter, who is fourth in the NBA at 23.8 points per game but has received little help. Only one other Raptor - rookie Chris Bosh - is in double figures.

A go-to guy over the past four seasons, Rose is averaging only 13.4 points per game, 6.7 below his career-best total with Chicago in 2002-03. The 6-8 swingman has chipped in 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists - second on the team - per contest.

Rose established himself as a premier player in the league during the 2000 playoffs with Indiana, when he averaged 20.8 points per game. Coming into the season, his career average was 14.4 points per contest for Denver, Indiana and Chicago.

The 6-9 Marshall had developed into a solid contributor before slumping to 8.7 points per game this season, 5.7 off his number from 2002-03. The 30-year-old also grabbed 6.2 rebounds per contest and led the team with 20 blocks.

Baxter is in only his second NBA season. The 6-8, 260-pounder was averaging 4.3 points and 2.5 boards.

Toronto is off to an 8-7 start.

The Bulls are looking to further shake up a team that has lost seven straight games and is off to a 4-12 start. On Monday, they fired coach Bill Cartwright and replaced him Friday with Scott Skiles.

While Rose is probably the best player in the deal, the Bulls would get a pair of bruising, hard-working, veteran forwards in Davis and Williams, which could complement a roster that has seven players born in the 1980s.

Chicago is just 14th in the NBA in rebounding and second-to-last in defense, allowing 101.1 points per game. Davis and Williams should help in both areas, particularly on the interior.

A former All-Star, the 6-9 Davis has averaged 8.6 points and 9.5 rebounds per game this season. The 35-year-old entered the year with career averages of 10.8 points and nearly 8.0 boards for Indiana and Toronto.

The 6-9 Williams, nicknamed "Junkyard Dog" for his aggressive, hustling style, was averaging 5.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest while leading the team with 19 steals.

A reserve for the better part of his career, Williams began the season with career averages of 7.0 points and just under 7.0 rebounds per contest.

In his second season out of Fresno State, the 6-8 Jefferies had played only eight minutes this season and was on the injured list as of Saturday. He averaged 3.9 points per game as a rookie.

Well a positive is in this for some Mavs fans. No more Rose 4 Finley deals. Well I hope. Nevermind. I'm sure we will still see them.

That's not smart by the Raptors either.

I can't see who's going to take a stat cut between Rose/Carter/Peterson.

It's a good deal for them, but i would've went after Crawford if i were them.

Raptors got better with this trade. Bulls probably did it for cap reasons. If Carter can perform, Raptors will be a good team.

I don't understand why the Bulls did this trade at all. They traded a good player with a heavy contract for a bunch of shit players with heavy contracts. They are now considerably weak at the off-guard spot- a position none of the players they aquired play. They added age and depth to good, young frontcourt. But it is a position in which they do not need depth. I like Baxter and Marshall just as much as Davis and Williams.

My best guess? This is another example of a new GM trying to make a "splash" by dumping old-regime players, just to get them off the team. The funny thing is that Davis and Williams are just as big of malcontents as Rose, but they are without his talent. I liked the Bulls mix of veterans and young players before the trade. I liked their inside/outside balance. I think that if the front office showed a little patience, they could easily be one of the best teams in the East. They certainly had the talent. What they did NOT need to do was to blow up the team and start all over again. It appears that's what this trade was intended to do. If so, the Bulls are going to stink it up for several more years, probably until the GM gets fired.

But doesn't this better position them to get a high draft pick in next year's draft MadApe?

This makes the Artest/Miller for Rose trade look especially bad now. Artest and Miller are both having career years, and the Bulls give up Rose for peanuts.

Well what do you expect from a team that pissed off the Greatest player to have every played the game so that he would want to retire during a championship run.

The same team that would rather retool for and try to rebuild rather than try for another championship after winning 3 straight and 6 in 8 years.

I'm not saying that the Bulls have had idiots for managment, that would be far too unkind to idiots everywhere. But this franchise has a history of idiotic moves and only finding success through pure dumb blind luck in it's upper management's moves.

Bulls management really haven't made a good decision since Rod Thorn left in the early 90's.

Makes ya wonder if the Mavs can nab Chandler for Delk now! It would help out both teams tremendously.

It makes no sense for the Bulls organization unless they have some kind of trade waiting in the wings to get a SG for Chandler or Curry. Maybe I am just wishful thanking.

No way would the Bulls do that. They would at least make us throw in TAW.
