Well I guess to be fair, we wouldn't utilize Gordon if he was here in all likelihood. This coaching staff raved about Austin all off season and in week one he was on the field for maybe 10 plays. Stephen Jones got his panties twisted over troy calling their play calling poor and yet clearly they listened to what everyone was saying after week 1 and opened the playbook up some last night... and then when we had a lead it felt like we did the typical thing and tried to just sit with the ho hum safe calls. Until late when we opened it up once more and got the td drive to put it away. I'm not a huge dak fan really but our offensive plays/scheme/personnel decisions is leaving a lot to be desired. For years our offense has been stupidly predictable. I am certain if Gordon was here he'd be wasted. Let him go to the Pats and put up 120 yds a game with Brady and win them yet another ring.

totally agree with you BW. I really thought our offensive play calling was creative and different both in play and design and effort - EARLY in the game. And as you said once we got that lead - poof - back to the same old stuff. I was so disappointed we slipped back into that.

Welp, season over. Mavs have more talent than this sorry squad. And what's worse, there are so few offensive options that Garrett will get to keep his job. Truly sad.

Dak hasn't been good, but he literally has no talent to pass to, and the garbage that he does pass to drop catches. That will make a QB look bad every time. I mean, your leader in yards caught is vs Seattle was superstar tight end Geoff Swaim...a 7th round pick from 2015.

Here's the biggest problems with Dak... it's not that he throws behind a receiver a time or two...or one sail's 10 feet over their head for whatever reason.. it's this:
1. Every game, he leaves plans on the field. He frequently misses guys running open especially on intermediate to deeper routes. He doesn't see the field well.
2. Despite having good speed, he's not moving well in the pocket in part because of poor footwork. Plus, he frequently moves in to pressure or bails out of the pocket when there's no need.
3. He's scared to throw into coverage. He usually only throws to a WR if they're "college" open. What do I mean by that? Well, if they have a step on coverage, he'll make the throw. To be a good NFL QB, you have to be able to make throws when the WR doesn't have a full step. Dak isn't particularly accurate so he isn't willing to do this. Perhaps that's a good thing for him because of his lack of accuracy. If it is a good thing, then that tells you all you need to know...it would tell you that he's not a starting caliber NFL QB.

#3 for me is where I keep coming back to with Dak. He throws to an open wr, he can't throw open a wr with timing or simply won't risk it with his accuracy issues you point out.

As I said here when they chose Dak over Romo, they made a horrible mistake.

Very interesting quote from Cowboys WR Cole Beasley on the passing game issues in the Fort Worth Star Telegram:
"We're just getting open. That's all we can do," Cole Beasley said. "If you watch the tape, that's all you've got to do"

The team needed an injection of something new to look forward to since Jerry won't fire the joke of a coach. And one more back injury would have ended Romo's career anyway.
It honestly almost always goes back to Jerry Jones the GM as the underlying issue for most cowboy issues.

I'm not a football fan and barely follow the Cowboys, but I hear more and more about Jerry Jr. When is Sr officially retiring and Jr taking over? And is that even going to make a difference?

Actually, what they needed was what they finally had.. A really good offensive line and a running game. It's a shame that Romo didn't get to play behind that line in 2016.

This team is so boring to watch. No creativity at all on offense.

@jonmachota: Jaylon Smith asked if he was any more sore after Sunday's game because of the big hits he delivered: "It's football. You're always gonna be sore. I'm thankful to be sore, because a couple years ago, people thought I would never play the game again. So it's an honor to be sore."

Doubt that would make a difference, it'll just be a title. I think Jr will run the business side and Stephen will continue to "run" the football side. But as long as Jerry's able, he'll be the final decision maker.

Horrible call. But ugh this offense is a chore to watch. Surprise, surprise, we are on our way to yet another 8-8 type season... exactly what we have been for way too long now.

The Cowboys weren't good yesterday offensively. So it's Garrett's plan to take that crappy offense and just play for overtime? How much time was wasted once the Cowboys got into Redskins' territory on their final possession? It was insane... Garrett is so ridiculously incompetent...

Jerry won't fire Garrett if the Cowboys go 8-8 or even 7-9 and maybe even 6-10. In fact, he might not fire him under any circumstance at this point. They'll blame the lack of offensive talent.

There was 52 seconds after the Beasley catch to the Skins 46. Beasley catch to the 31 had 28 seconds left, this is where Garrett seemed to settle on lining up the field goal, then ran Elliott down to 3 seconds....so I'd say wasted about 20 or so seconds and a time out to perfect the field goal position.
2 plays easily, first play 5 yard out to the sideline, second play any where with the TO.

Amari Cooper to Dallas, for a 1st.
Ugh... I think that's a little high. He's due 14m next year with his option or we extend him long term before that.

Agreed 1st is a bit high for potential, article from yesterday not likely that a first would be moved....guess Jerry's desperate. Catch rate of 50% 48 catches a year ago......hopefully it was just the Raider offense or lack of it, that limited his production.

If Cooper couldn't succeed with Carr, then I don't see how he succeeds with Dak... Wasted first round pick.

Cowboys bidding against themselves. Yuck. And he's in the concussion protocol. I could maybe see a 2nd for him. They should've been thinking about next year. Not SB contenders this year.

Cowboys pulled a Mavericks by including that first. However, Amari is NO Doncic.

I'd be ok with this deal if we had a real qb and an actual coach+coordinator to get the most out of him. He's got serious talent and is only 24... but we already know what kind of production he will give us in this anemic offense. 3 catches 27-40yds as part of Daks 180yds passing.

Eagles offered a 2nd. But after last year's 50% catch rate, no way he's worth the 13.9 he's due next year AND a first round pick.

@SportsSturm: Cowboys announce they are firing OL Coach Paul Alexander - Marc Colombo is taking over (and changing everything back to how it was in 2017).
@AdamSchefter: Cowboys also bringing back former offensive line coach Hudson Houck, who has been hired to work with the offensive staff in an advisory capacity.
