David Aldrige said Gafford was washington's best player. He was right.

But it show more how bad our big men were/are. Although Maxi is having a good game for him so credit where it's due.

Luka is the goat. He is still getting his, controlling the game and giving the new guys tons of free shit. Welcome to the team. Heres some jerseys and free easy buckets.

Gafford and PJ look like massive additions. Perfect style of play for us.

Again, even a PJ Washington looks good because we needed more talent.

It helps that our guys (knock on wood) are getting healthy again. Maxi seems like the type that takes forever to get healthy enough to not suck.

Eh. Thats because he does suck. It takes him a long time to not suck after injuries because he needs the stars to align for a cpl weeks so he looks like a decent rotation player. Maxi is just a dude who can give the real talent a rest or fill in during injuries. He has been one of a handful or so of guys that were asked to be wayyyy more than what they really are.

1st off I'm say Kidd takes a lot of heat on here for his coaching decisions.

But I will defend him and say he doesn't get enough credit for the continued development of Josh Green.

I think both DJJ and Exum have played their best ball under Kidd's style of coaching.

He finally has some size to mix and match with those smaller players so now I think it's time to fairly judge him. He said himself he didn't have many guys in the front court who could actually rebound or put the ball on the floor.

This might be the most talented roster he's had in his short tenure here and that says a lot because he did get this franchise to the WCF'S with an avg roster.

If they stay healthy he now has enough pieces to be a threat and I think the expectations should be 2nd round or WCF'S for him.

None of anyone's judgement of Kidd's coaching the last season and a half has been unfair.

Anyway, I'm just happy we finally have a real backup center. That position has plagued us for so long and not anymore.

Drummond was my first choice, but Gafford was a very close second. And might be better, too.

I don't think it matters because both him and Lively will both play 20+ minutes.

I'm just thankful we finally don't have to see Powell unless the games are completely over now.

I like Drummond but Gafford is
1) five years younger (25 vs 30)
2) a better shot blocker (3.0 bp36 vs 1.4)
3) not expiring (2 years plus this one with full bird)
4) dreamy

Ties the longest win streak of the season. And we've got a stretch of a lot of very winnable games ahead.

If the Mavs are actually anywhere near as good as they looked today, we could see a really awesome playoff push and rise in the rankings.

One of Pels Kings Suns fall and Mavs get the 5 seed to end the season.

Also, back to game day threads? Or at least edit the title of this thread. We?ve leveled up

Love the attitude. Played WR until 9th grade. That combo at center again reminds of the Chandler-Haywood duo during the ring run.

What a luxury dilemma to have now!

I wonder if Lively and Gafford can ever share the court together.
Wouldn't mind seeing them play together at times.

Someone mentioned on a radio sports show the other day that Gafford is better than Lively.

With no Lively/Exum and with an open roster spot.

Wonder if they sign Lawson to fill that open spot.

First time having centers in Dallas that we wouldn't mind actually playing on the floor together? Seriously, I think it is. I joked around about it in the past when we had 5 centers. I think they even did it during garbage time. This Mavericks team is going to bring us another championship.

Lively and Gafford can easily give us 30 minutes a game each so having them together for 5 or 6 minutes could be fun to watch.

And a healthy competition between them for the starting/closing spot can only make both of them better.

After suns loss last night, and looking at kings schedule?

If Mavs take care of business before all star break, they could be looking at the 5 seed in a few days!

I don't ever see that happening because neither guy is a stretch big.

The biggest lineup we'd see is with both guys at times lined up with Kleber.

I wouldn't even expect to see that pairing even vs Minnesota because the mavs don't usually play lineups outside of their comfort zone.

I certainly expect this approach on occasion.

How important would it be for Lively to develop his outside shooting?
I suppose it would give us another option.
We all saw videos of him hitting 3's during preseason but would be a wonderful development if he could translate that into games. The powell experiment with that has died apparently thank goodness. As a big if he's already screening at the top he should probably work on 3's from there and not the corner. that's where KAT takes the majority of his 3's.

I think Lively is developing or has developed his shot. Question is whether Kidd will let him take them because then he'll be out of the paint for offensive rebounds. I don't necessarily agree with this logic, but our rebounding has been bad enough to where we need someone getting offensive boards.

And Lively's current shots are super high percentage, so there really is no reason right now for him to shoot threes with how good our team is at that.

yeah i think it's a consideration for down the road and it will depend on how accurate he is. It's nice to know there's that potential at some point.
For now, he's got a host of other things to work on as a big man.
Adding the outside shot to his bag is a relatively low priority as things go now.
For it to be a threat and for teams to be forced to cover him out there in theory could open things up even further and just give the team more options.

Default GDT: Game 54 - Wizards (9-43) at Mavs (30-23) 7:30pm

Are we back? Four in a row gives me some hope.

Exum and Lively out

Make it 5 in a row.
This team needs some confidence building to raise the ceiling.
