Its time, the Utley hit streak thread.
This could be the most pointless thread over as it could end tonight or it could be a nice little thread if he gets to at least 45 but since he is at 35, it has become thread worthy. He is going for number 36 tonight in NY against EL duke. Any guesses as to how long it will go? My personal guess is that he will get to 51 and it will die.

As long as he keeps hitting close to .500 for my fantasy team, I'm happy. But it's bound to end pretty soon here. Two or three more games, tops.
Of course, I would be glad to be wrong.
Oh, I also just picked up their catcher. He has been on a tear!!

Whats amazing is that he has hit like 403 during the streak which is lower than what Williams did for an entire season. Puts that 406 into perspective.

I'm not really into hit streaks.....I'd much rather have a guy go 3-4 everyother day.....because realistically you could have a 162 game hit streak during the season and bat .250 (1-4 each game).......would we see that as a better season over a player who bats .350 and doesnt have a hit streak over 10????
The only thing hit sreaks show is that you are able to muster up a hit each day...meh no big deal. ...Utley's is pretty impressive since he is batting around .400 during it, but in general I dont care much for hit streaks....they're overrated.

Yep, I traded Miguel Tejada and Utley for Ortiz. He also threw in K Greene, but I won't play him. My new roster:
C - Torrealba, Gerald Laird
1 - Ortiz, Cuddyer
2 - DeRosa, Ray Durham, M Giles
3 - Cuddyer, R Zimmerman, DeRosa
SS - Hanley Ramirez, K Greene, DeRosa
LF - Manny Ramirez
CF - GMJ
RF - C Monroe
DH - Hafner
other outfielders - D Roberts, Dave Delucci

I'm in third place. I win almost all the batting stats almost every week! DeRosa and Cuddyer are very, very productive players. So is GMJ, when he's not slumping. And of course, Manny has been on fire of late, and Hafner has been good all year. I usually bat around .330!

How many are in your league? I just dont understand trading a top 5 ss and a top 2 second basemen for a top 3 1st basemen.

I'm sure I overpaid. But, hey, I wanted Big Papi! I wasn't gonna get him cheap!
There are eight teams in the league. We're all just amateurs at this, which for me is most of the fun.

Hey, man, my guys can hit! My pitching is my weakness.
I used to have Konerko, but I traded him. I'd sure like to have that Bay kid.
Who pitches for? How many pitchers do you carry?

My pitchers are Carlos Zambrano, Justin Verlander, Harang, Jered Weaver, Scott Olsen, Padilla, Bonderman, Nathan and Putz. I will be picking up another one shortly as i just made a trade which resulted in an open roster spot.

Man, your pitching is solid, too! I have pretty good relievers--Street, Rivera, and Saito, with Cordero for depth--but my starting pitching is not so hot. Josh Johnson is doing well for me, as is Erik Bedard, who I picked up recently. I have Bonderman and Padilla, too. Actually, Bonderman is probably my best pitcher. I have Capuano, and boy, he's been sucking lately. Bronson Arroyo was, too, so I cut his ass. Recently I picked up Livan Hernandez, Joe Saunders, Jeff Suppan, and Byung Yung-Kim (only to pitch at home).

See, Matt, I tried to tell you about my lineup. Mark Derosa just hit a three-run shot. He's already got three runs, three hits, two homers, and six RBI's this week...and it's only Wednesday! The guy is en fuego! See, that's why I had to move Tejeda. I had to make room for MDR!!

Whoops, DeRosa did it again! Give him another hit, another run, another homer, and three more ribbies!! Now if he'll just get off his ass and start collecting some walks and stolen bases...

My 1st place 8 team league lineup is:
C Barrett
1B Tex
2B Durham
SS Rollins
3B Wright
OF Figgins
OF Burrell
OF Sizemore
Util Ryan Howard
Util Lugo
Util A.Ramirez
Util Adrian Gonzalez
Util J.Rivera
DL D.Lee
Pitching:
SP's Zambrano, Peavy, Jered Weaver, Lackey, Felix Hernandez, Bedard, Penny, Jennings, C.Lee, J. Francis, Kazmir
RP's M.Rivera, B.Fuentes, B.Wagner, Papelbon
We play with really big lineups as you can see. Earlier in the year my awesome team was really underachieving and I dropped to 7th. Now I've climbed all the way to first.

Okay, 5-0, please evaluate this trade for me:
Big Papi
Saito (LA reliever)
Cuddyer
Gerald Laird
for
A Dunn
Todd Jones (closer)
Teahen (KC 3B)
McCann (catcher)

It depends on if you trust Teahen to keep on doing what he is doing. He has basically become david wright for a little more than a month. I wouldnt do that deal especially not considering what you just gave up for papi. Im not a dunn fan at all though. I prefer Saito to jones since aside from saves jones has sucked this year. It depends on your periph cats though. Jones will get you a few more saves but with the way the dodgers have played recently im not sure about that even. Mccann is a rather large upgrade over laird since he essentially the NLs joe mauer and he actually plays everyday.
In conclusion Papi to Dunn is a signifigant downgrade, Saito to jones is pretty much lateral but could go either way, Cuddyer to Teahen is an upgrade but not huge Finally, laird to Mccann is a HUGE upgrade. Seeing your catcher situation i might do this deal but in general if i was gonna shop ortiz i would look for more assuming he has 1st base elig and not just dh.

Thanks for the analysis. Jones has been good the last month. I think his ERA is under 1.00, with a bunch of saves. But I do already have Rivera, Streets, and Cordero. Cordero has been coming on lately.
I could use McCann at catcher, that's for sure. (Although Torreable pretty much plays every day, too.) But McCann has been hot lately.
I don't know a lot about Dunn, except his numbers. You're right about Teahen, you have to wonder how he will be able to keep it up. I do already have Zimmerman at 3B...and of course, Cuddyer could play several positions for me. What do you think of Zimmerman?

It's close like 5-0 said, but I'd keep what you've got.
Zimmerman is solid, I have him on a couple of my teams.

Go for it. You really aren't giving that much up, and Morneau has been a flat out beast this season.

I pulled that trade off the board, after the fine start Cap had tonight. I hate that their offense can't score many runs, but Cap has been a good strikeout pitcher, and they can't ALWAYS just score one run for him. And Cordero is good depth at RP.

Apart from tonight, Cap has been pretty bad as of late, and you already have two solid closers. I would pull the trigger, but I guess that's just me.

Since you guys had been talking about him so much, I checked out his stats and finally picked him up after his 2 homer 6 rbi game. So far it's paid off.

For the second trade i would do it in a heartbeat. Im trying to talk doc into trading me morneau in a dif league. Actually if you can get that morneau trade you might be able to do the other one since you would still have a truly great 1st basemen. As for zim if it was a keeper league i would have him in the top 15 to 20 players in the league. In a one year leauge he is a very solid 3rd basemen. 3rd base is surprisingly deep right now though. Teahen as mentioned has been great, sanchez has been great though eh has more value at second, dero, zim and even adrian beltre have all been very good recently. As for derosa he is flat out on fire.
