Default Ron Artest traded to the Rockets

Thought this might be worthy of its own thread... seems official as its being reported in the houston chronicle.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...n/5914062.html
I know people say the Rockets will be a force every year and it never happens, But perhaps, this time it really will happen.

but wow artest for ONLY BJ and "donte green" and a 1pick? Seems like the Rockets got a steal, what are the maloof brothers thinking.?

Damn good move by Houston. He fits Adelman's system, makes them bigger, nastier, better defensively and a bonafide #3 to Yao/TMac who can be a 1/2 when they take their regular injury breaks.

unbelievable, the kings wanted jho but would settle for bobby jackson, donte green and a pick? Excellent move by houston, that puts the Mavs one more step closer to the lottery

This makes them extremely tough as long as Yao stays healthy.

Good deal for both teams. Houston is going to be tough.

The Kings are in rebuilding mode and Donte Green will fit right in with that movement. No telling who they pick up next season with the 1st round pick.

I figured this might happen. The Kings would ask way too much from the first teams that were interested and then when they realized they had no negotiating position they accept a low-balled, later offer. I'm sure Adelman had a lot to do with this because Artest wanted to play for him.

All the more reason to get Josh Smith.

The main difference between our offer and what the Kings ultimately accepted is the two first rounders that we sent away in the Kidd deal.

It just makes another team a whole lot better than the Mavs.

Great move by the Rockets.

Word is that Josh Smith is headed to LAL in a sign and trade to Atlanta for Odom.

I've said many times that we got bent over on that deal and now it's biting us in the a**.

There's also the fact that we refused to buy a first rounder this year because the price was too high.

Yeah. Sadly I was apart of that group that was really high on the trade. But the way things are going with teams around the league improving so much, it looks like that trade will signify the end of the Mavs as major players for a title for a long, long time.

This is a pretty low-risk, high reward move for the Rockets...very, very nice move.

It looks like Josh Smith or Bust for Dallas in terms of a move.

Well, that puts us 4th as far as the pecking order goes in our division. That's just great, friggin great man. Donnie Nelson is a stupid prick, and I hope to god after this season he gets his ass canned, because he is a moron. Ron Artest is gonna play his ass off for Adelman, and T-Mac+Artest is scary as hell.

There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it now. We need to make a big move to do anything this season, we need to get Josh Smith and throw Howard out there no matter what. If not, we are in a hell of a spot, and unless Artest implodes that team we are screwed. God dammit this is horrible news. I compare it to having cancer, and then getting AIDS to top it all off. This offseason has been horrible, and what a damn shame that Dirk will very possibly have to finish his career without a title because the front office can't get off their asses and help the man.

The worst thing about this is we could have had him. That first round pick was what did it, and we lost two in the Kidd trade. It's very clear now that Sacramento would have done Howard for Artest in a heartbeat. No fillers, and we might have been able to lure Garcia if we had offered Bass, hell we might not have even had to do that. What a farce this offseason has been, it seemed changes were promised after the two first round disappointments, and the front office does pretty much nothing about it. I question Cuban's passion now, which is something I never thought I would say. Maybe he is too focused on purchasing the Cubs to concern himself with Maverick affairs!

You know...I just thought about this, there is really little risk involved, less than I thought.
If Artest goes crazy...."Oh wait, we STILL have Battier!"

SF Position: Ron Artest, Shane Battier
That's solid for that position.

Dallas, sheesh...you need to do something.

If LA gets Josh Smith.

Offseason '08 in the Western Conference - Players that we wanted:
Minn gets Miller
GS gets Maggette
Hou gets Artest
NO gets Posey
LAC gets Ricky (for f'ing cheap)
Pho gets Barnes (for f'ing cheap)
LA gets Smith

I really like this move for the Rocks. With McGrady and Ming they have been good but both Ming and McGrady have had a knock, soft. Both are getting tougher. Both have injuries at times also. Then they get a tough and physical Battier and some good players around them all. It seemed though at times toughness and defense would not be there. They have always had alot of talent.

This was the perfect move for the Rocks, to add offense and big time defense, rebounds, and hustle. No Bowen, no Posey, Josh Howard wasn't being traded, so the next tough guy that could flat out play on the tradding block, Artest. If Artest can stay focussed and not throw fits, watch out, the Rocks have just moved up into contention big time. Great move Houston.

As far as us doing something, we can't. We made our move, Kidd. We have to win or lose with him for the next couple years and then we can maybe free up some money and make some major moves. Josh Howard, Dirk and Kidd are not going anywhere at this time. This is our team. Any moves we make or sign a player will be minor. It is doubtful we can hold George.

And Carlos Lee just hit a grand slam a few minutes ago.

Too much happiness in one moment.

And alby, ouch is right. Rockets got Artest for basically peanuts. We are going to have a high second round draft pick next year from an earlier trade during the draft. So, we don't lose much value with the giving the 1st round pick to the Kings.

What's the big deal? From what I've seen of Artest in Indiana - head case. No championship, eventually the team dissolved. Now, tell me how great the kings have been since signing Artest?

To me, Artest has a Stackhouse problem - he thinks he's the best player on the court. Uhh. He's not. He's not in Houston either. But he's going to be a problem for them. Mark my words. Houston will be the same team they were last year.

Nope. T-Mac and Yao >> all other players Artest has played with (for the Kings and Pacers). If you can't see that the Rockets are a better overall team now with Artest, as well past teams Artest was with, then I'm at a loss for words.

Artest wants to play for Adelman. He had his best production under Adelman. He said it himself.

Great move when you consider what they are getting him for, but I'm With jack on this one. Just like the past 2-3 years, Houston improves on paper, but stays the same on the court.

I'd bet they finish with a worse record this year than last year. No 17 game winning streaks this time around.

I really don't think there is a glass half-full scenario here....
