Mavs appear to also have a very well-run system for what to do when Luka is doubled. It is pretty responsive. This, of course, is something that Mavs have been working on for years because Luka has been dominating their offence for a while now. So it's not a surprise they have that going.

Teams generally never double Luka given how great of a passer he is. But occasionally they do that late in the clock AS A SURPRISE TACTIC. And for Luka to be able to break that double team he needs other teammates to be ALERT.

THJ must avoid controlling the ball so much. He should stick to EXECUTING SHOTS. Shooting, that is, when given the ball and while in the position to shoot.

He is scoring now and he is again doing TOO MUCH. That gets him into trouble.

In Sacramento the Mavs are experiencing what appears to VERY STRANGELY BE some sort of a "fair" or "favourable" officiating.

That is because Sacramento Kings is NOT an organization that is FAVORED BY THE LEAGUE.

Playing Thunder, Pelicans (I think), LA, GSW, etcetera things will be VERY, VERY DIFFERENT. And the Mavs' players will suffer PHYSICAL ABUSE that will be encouraged by the refs.

None of that in this game.

That's a VERY BIG REASON WHY the Mavs are playing so well tonight and why they have established such a lead.

The way this league works is that some teams are favoured and others (like Mavs) are sought to be incapacitated in every way. Through refereeing, through injuries via allowing and promoting physical abuse, etc. Sacramento Kings are a team that is disfavoured, or maybe ignored by the league.

Not sure about what the stats say, but I felt like Lively changed this game in the 3rd. Kings offense, including Sabonis, couldn?t deal with his length. He seems like such a smart defender.

This team swallowed Sabonis all night. Lively was not about to be backed down. PJ and Gafford and Luka also collectively destroyed their inside game.

If Mavs were to play Lakers, then Lakers would be getting all of the soft calls to get on the line and to get them going. While such calls on Mavs would be IGNORED. And the score is managed like that. So that Mavs must play VERY, VERY WELL to be able to beat such teams.

Here, in this game, there appears to be some sort of a fair refereeing standard.

Here you can see just how poor Gafford is in switches on the perimeter. Gafford has great size and length. So that as a rule he should never come out so much and so close to an offensive player. Instead, in this situation he should be around that X mark. And if the Sac player decides to shoot, Gafford can still challenge that shot with his size and length.

And, instead, look at what he does. That what he did is PISS POOR BEGINNER DEFENSE for a big guy. And that will be exposed by good teams in the playoff situations. They will keep bringing him out and keep putting him in those situations.

Pre trade I think Mavs still win in that situation, but like you said this team punishes the kings. Whereas in the past we?d squeak it out and need Luka 42 minutes. This is the best they?ve played in the Luka era as a team. It?s so balanced it?s scary.

But we're finally winning close games. And if PJ and THJ are making threes, then there is no way they or any other team can beat us in the conference.

Dude won't average 14-13-2, but he's averaging 11-6 with a steal and a block. If he hits his threes and starts defending, he will be a solid piece and could help the scoring load with 14-15pts.
