Trade w/Milwaukee
How would you guys feel about this deal?
DALLAS SENDS:
Caron Butler
JJ Barea
Dominique Jones
MILWAUKEE SENDS:
Corey Maggette
Carlos Delfino
Keyon Dooling
Why for us: Clearly our biggest need as a team is a starting caliber SF and backup PG. We convert Butler's expiring deal into Maggette (and I'll admit that I'm probably a bigger fan of his game than most here), who is playing pretty well lately, and will shoot free throws all night long. Delfino is an active defender who can shoot with range and is a very pesky player. Dooling is a steady backup who can be a facilitator with our second unit (also eliminating the scenario created where JJ gets hot and the rest of the team cools off). We hate to lose DoJo but we'd have a ton of quality depth to make up for it, featuring guys that are ready to win now. We can ease Roddy back into our rotation without relying on him being a worldbeater right away, and he can eventually chip away at DeShawn/Terry/Dooling minutes.
Kidd/Dooling/Roddy
DeShawn/Terry/Roddy
Maggette/Delfino/Matrix/(edit: Peja)
Dirk/Matrix/Cardinal
Chandler/Haywood/Mahinmi
Why for Milwaukee: Yes, they have picked things up a bit over their past handful of games, but word around town is that Maggette isn't really fitting in, and they'd love to move his deal, especially with the potential to replace him long-term with Butler (a Milwaukee area HS player). DoJo seems like a luxury to them, but I don't think they'd do a straight salary dump when they are one hot streak away from making noice in the East again. They also have a nice problem with Boykins and JJ being high-quality backups.
Jennings/JJ/Boykins
Salmons/CDR/DoJo
Mbah a Moute/CDR/Ilyasova/(Butler potential in '11-'12)
Ilyasova/Gooden
Bogut/Sanders/Brockman

Reason: Totally forgot about Peja... obviously we might have to cut him or Cardinal

Don't know Doolings game, but the numbers don't exactly show an upgrade over JJB. In fact JJB leads in every category that is important to our team: FTA, shot attempts at the rim and even FG% which is pretty difficult considering the stretch JJB had to start the season.

Maggette would be ok if nothing better presents itself. But now is not the time to cash our chips in. Like you I like Maggette better than most around here, but he is owed a shit ton of $ over the next few. Two more years after this I believe. Maggette ultimately is better than doing nothing. He's a guy who can get to the line 10x on a given night and is an underrated rebounder. Great as I think Roddy can potentially be down the road im not sure you want him to shoulder the playoff pressure of being one of 3 guys on the team comfortable having the ball in his hands with the shot-clock winding down. Maggette would give this team it's own version of a Paul Pierce- a physical mid-range wing who can create his own.
Also Barea is playing too well right now to mess with. And Delfino is redundant along with Maggette. We'd have too many wings once Peja's back.

Yeah, JJB is clearly a better player, but Dooling might be a better fit w/second unit. Plus we do have to give some to get some (and I treat Butler like an expiring contract only right now).

Yeah, I too would like the dimension that Maggette brings offensively. And Delfino would be a fantastic 7th/8th man that can play PG in a pinch. I probably wouldn't make this trade if he wasn't included.

I don't like Magettes game at all, will he work with the team concept? No doubt Dooling is a better fit with the second unit and there inconsistent defense other than Marion, hate Delfino he is a chucker.
So overrall no

LOL... I somewhat doubt you've ever seen Dooling play -- he's one of the better backups in the league.
Thank you both for the replies!

If we can't get a better deal, this isn't bad, but you are underlining Delfino's importance for the Bucks, he is indeed more important for them than Maggette. And he's a very interesting player, good defender with an above average passing skills for a SF, and great range, who can play guard too. Bucks would only make this deal if they were completely out of the playoffs, just to dump Mag's expensive contract.
