the turnovers are a stain, but rooks are gonna turn the ball over, that's just something you gotta accept with a rookie, but if we can get consistent play out of him like we have been then it won't matter as much

About 10 years ago, I went to see the summer league games at the Westchester County Center in Westchester, New York.

Todd Day, David Wesley, and host of others played. It was a great day, I sat up close and saw some great hoops.

Rex Walters, from Kansas and drafted by the Nets, was absolutely specttacular and had 31 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists and hit a game tying three pointer at the end of regulation. I l left the game, called all my friends and told them all that the future of basketball was spelled R-E-X W-A--L-T-E-R-S.

My friends have never let me live it down.

Moral = Take summer leaugue games with an absolute grain of salt.

Well I did the same thing and said "Josh Howard and Marquis Daniels are really gonna be something." I judged that by just watching the summer league play. I would say that every good game that Harris has, the chances of him being a bust go down considerably. The last four games, 2 against the Chinese team and 2 against summer league teams, Harris has performed considerably well. I think it would be different if this guy was coming out of highschool, but he has college experience. Why take the summer league for a grain of salt when I was right about Howard and Daniels? Also, I didn't even know there were summer leagues 10 years ago haha

Did you go to the games?

Do you know that Kwame Brown dominates the competition EVERY year?

Did you notice that the "Rock" was the best player on the opposing team?

Mamadou Ndaiye dominated the Clippers v. Mavs game...We let him go after two 10-day contracts.

None of this means jacksh*t. Harris is obviously an NBA quality guard. Don't expect him to be Steve Nash in his first year. He will be good. Period. Let him have a little slack.

No matter how many grains of salt you might swallow, the summer league at least gives you some idea if the guy has game or not.

We never even played Mamadou.....because Nellie doesn't play centers for some reason. Excluding Bradley.

Good story, but not necessarily true. Summer league can show a lot of what you may see in the NBA. However, I never said the product was the same.

Southern California Summer Pro League • Los Angeles
http://www.nba.com/features/notebook_040713.html

Current standings: Dallas (2-0); L.A. Lakers (2-0); Memphis (1-0); L.A. Clippers (1-1); Sacramento (1-1); San Antonio (1-2); Golden State (0-1); New York (0-2)

The Dallas 2-H Club
Through two games, the Mavericks' Josh Howard and Devin Harris have quickly become a stellar tandem for unbeaten Dallas. Howard, named to the got milk? All-Rookie Second Team after a terrific 2003-04 season, is averaging 25.5 ppg on 17-of-31 (.548) shooting to go with 11.5 rpg, leading the Mavs in both categories.
And Harris, the fifth pick in the 2004 draft, may make the team's transition to the post-Steve Nash era quite smooth indeed. The 6-3 rookie out of Wisconsin posted 21.0 ppg, 8.5 apg and 4.5 rpg in the two Dallas victories. He's also shown some quick hands in defensive passing lanes, swiping seven steals (3.50 spg).

Didn't Donell Harvery dominate the Summer Leagues one year? It just goes to show you never know what to expect. Still, I must say that I liked what I saw out of Devin in that one game against the Chinese National Team.

Summer league games can be a good way to scout potential and talented players although when watching them you must be aware that they are only "summer league games" It's impossible to tell how these guys will do against starting 5 NBA caliber type of players. Some end up doing well once the season starts, some dont.

It provides hope and insight for what possibly is to come, but it absolutely does not provide guarantees for what is to be.

Nobody is saying anything about guarantees. I said if Devin Harris keeps up his consistent play, everytime he plays a game, then I'd say we can worry less and less about his transfer to the NBA. The only thing, I think, that will hinder his play is if Daniels starts at point. I'm not saying harris is going to be Steve Francis over-night, but wait, Francis did average about 19 points 5 assists a game his rookie year. I was just writing a positive post about the guy. So far, there is no reason to believe that he won't contribute right away. He's proven it in college and now he is proving it in the summer league. If he's a bust, well darn, but no reason to think that right now.

Agreed, but I don't know why everyone dogs Francis so much, other than his limited brain skills he's actually an incredible talent. If he ever learned to pass the ball more and keep his mouth shut he would be worthy of being called franchise.

His ability to cut and dish is terrible too. He passes back and forth on the perimeter. He needed to pass the ball to Yao more too.

Another great game by Harris! ALthough his shot selection is now coming under question and he needs to keep the turnovers down. Otherwise, WOW!!!

Harris: Assists/Turnover ratio of 12/3 in 44min ain't too bad! And 4 steals to go with it. Only problem I see is 13 3PT Attempts.

Howard: Another monster game!! 30 points (75% FG%), 7 rebounds, 3 Steals, 2 Assists in only 26min

DJ Benga: Only 6 rebounds in 35min, as compared to 7 in 26min for Howard. 3 blocks look good!

Harris is just a shocking talent, because I didn't think he could pass like this. I expected him to not have many assists in all of these summer games but he is passing the rock nicely.

Nellie and Donnie won't trade Howard. I get the feeling they are gushing over him. He and Daniels will most likely stay with the Mavs for years to come.

He's not even trying out there and that is a good thing. Summer league just isnt the competition level for him if he scores 26+ points every night on 60%+ shooting.

When the real team comes together and Harris is pushing the ball up the court and he see's Dirk, Daniels, and Howard setting up you can bet his shots will decrease, not to mention Finely and Stackhouse. I really hope that he can come in with the same confidence that Daniels and Howard showed last year.

Not a bad pre-season game for Harris against the Bucks in the home-opener. The stat I like most are 5 steals. Second stat I like most double-digit trips to the foul line. Stat I would like to see higher: assists.

The kid has some promise for sure, but more work is needed. I can't wait to see how he develops this season.

Devin Harris is the truth, we are being too doubtful about it. Only college PG that I can think of that is even is his class is Chris Paul. He is that good.

I like Devin Harris too, but let's tap on that brake just a hair. He still hasn't played a regular season game. Let's reserve the anointing of "greatness" until we have more evidence.

So far, I like what I see, I just hope he keeps improving all-season.

the potential is there in abundance...time on the court will make this kid a serious star.
