EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -- Free agent Slava Medvedenko signed a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-10 forward averaged career highs in points (8.3), rebounds (5) and assists (0.8) last season, when the Lakers lost to Detroit in the NBA Finals. He was relied on more last season after power forward Karl Malone went down with a knee injury in December.
Medvedenko was part of the Lakers' NBA championship teams in 2001 and '02. He originally signed with the team as a free agent before the 2000-01 season.
``He's a player that should continue to improve and we expect him to be a solid contributor for years to come,'' Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said.
