Its funny to see that Spo still has no clue what to do against a zone.

Rick spanking him like its 2011

Next 3 games look tough. Hawks, Grizzlies, and Thunder. If we take 2 out of those 3 I'll be ecstatic.

That's quite possible with Hawks and Grizzlies.

@IsaacHarrisNBA:
Me: How have you seen Seth's confidence grow from Day 1?

Carlisle: He didn't have a confidence problem when he got here...and still doesn't

As far as I'm concerned, Dirk can be 0-20 if he is able to grab 12 rebounds

Mavs are dangerous with Noel anchoring the defense. We're legit competition.

Noel, Curry and Barnes are making our draft pick less significant now in more than one way.....growth and impact lowering our pick and 3 positions no longer a need (at least in a starter role). I was hoping Yogi would lessen the need for a starting PG but that doesn't appear to be happening.

Earlier this year we were all hoping for a high pick to get a potential star to start another big-3, or the 2nd of a big-3 to go with Barnes, but I'm beginning to think we already have it with those 3 along with some nice young support pieces like Yogi and DFS.

A Curry-Monk-Wes-Barnes-Dirk lineup would be a top-5 offensive lineup in the league.

I must confess I haven't watched much Mavs lately, but has Seth always had these 30ft three pointers in his repertoire?

“We have a guy the league has missed on,” Spoelstra said referring to Whiteside, who was offered the max by the Mavericks this summer before signing a four-year deal with the Heat for $98 million.

“But I'll tell you what, the league missed on Seth Curry. He’s a heck of a basketball player.”
Coach Spo after the game last night.

I remember watching the Kings highlights of him when there were talks of us going for him when the Kings rescinded their QO making him an UFA. He has that shot I believe he just doesn't shoot it unless the shot clock is low or he's absurdly wide open. Steph is a guy looking for his shot, Seth seems like a guy looking to make the right basketball play and prefers to take what the defense gives him. Seth also doesn't have near the quick release his brother does or handles but I think if he is a 30min player he can very easily be a 17/5/3 type player. He's going to get paid after next year IMO. He may even grab more than 3 boards with Noel. So far Noel may not be getting the boards, which was my main concern with him, but he's boxing out and it's freeing up the rebound for other guys I think. Just my thoughts anyway.

Noel is doing so much more than the box score, and that is what has been missed on this team since Tyson Chandler. With more time in the system and more minutes, we should see his rebounding, blocked shots, and steals come in bunches. I love his energy.

One telling play to me was near the end of the game. Now, the game was pretty much settled at this point. Noel closed out on the corner three when Mathews secured the rebound and advanced up court avoiding foul. Meanwhile, Noel just sprints toward the basket. Mathews found him eventually but it was after the foul. Nonetheless, the energy and athleticism was nice to see. He tacked on the last rebound after that, too. It just adds to the last possession of Pelicans game, where he stole the inbound and ran the length for a flush. I'm excited to see him, Seth, Barnes, and crew continue to gel and get better.

Quote:
Matthews is listed as out for Wednesday's game against the Hawks due to a hip injury, Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com reports.

Neither Matthews nor the team indicated after Monday's win over the Heat that the swingman was nursing the injury, but it appears he may have suffered a recurrence of the hip strain that sidelined him for two games in January. Matthews had been struggling in the Mavs' first three contests since the All-Star break, averaging just 8.7 points on 6-of-20 shooting (30%) from the field. With Matthews out for at least Wednesday's game, the Mavericks could opt to start Dorian Finney-Smith at small forward and take on the bulk of the Matthews' minutes, or go with a larger starting lineup featuring Harrison Barnes and Dirk Nowitzki at small forward and power forward, respectively, while the newly-acquired Nerlens Noel would make his first start at center for the team.

Aside from Cook early in the game. I didn't understand it given how we started the game in a hole again.

I wanna see if we have better strarts with this lineup.
Yogi
curry
Barnes
Dirk
Noel

We are pretty poor with Dirk at 5 defensively starting games especially considering that he lays off contact a bit to avoid early fouls.

I don't understand why Noel or Mejri isn't in the game at all times. Mejri seems to always have an impact on games and Noel looks to be doing the same.

Opposing teams seem to dominate the paint when Dirk or Powell are playing center.

And it seems every time I look at box scores DFS has the highest +/- of all a players on our team.
We are much better with athletic defenders on the floor.

Dirk isn't quick enough to guard 4's on the perimeter anymore which is why his best position has been at the 5 this year.

I'm not sold on this idea. I would rather see him paired with Noel here before that is set in stone. He's not quick enough to defend anyone with his feet, But his hands are great.

Your hands won't help when the player blows past him on their way to the hoop. Sag off of them and they will pull up for a jumper.

He has potential to get posted up and outrebounded at the 5 too. I think Noel on the floor helps with Dirks defensive woes. Not every 4 is going to present blow by issues with Dirk. RC utilizes him at the 5 a little moreso to drag the center out of the paint offensively rather than the concern of a blow by from an opposing 4.
