Dirk's definitely becoming a smarter player, when he's bricking from the outside he's just taking it to the hole. Just tagged Ben, Tayshaun, and 'Sheed with fouls. Hope he keeps this up and gets those guys in foul trouble.

We've gotten pounded all over the place. DA on the buzzerbeater, Dirk 2-3 times under the basket....all around ugly game.

Mavs are always resonsible for their destiny, but the refs have had a big impact.

It is disheartening. Dirk probably should have been to the line for 8 more FTA's in the first half.

Just an ugly game from the look of the stats so far in about every category, other than rebounding, for the Mavs. Surprised that only JHo and Dirk have more than 10 shots at this point.

We definitely need a 2nd scorer like Finley who can consistently chip in 20+pts/game. We don't have anyone in our backcourt now who can do that, plus our guards can't seem to guard anyone.

Someone on the db.com board posted that Nellie said Finley could be back by Thursday. Not sure where he heard this and not sure how much to put into it.

It's disappointing that the DMN or FWST have not given an update in over a week on his progress.

Some good things:
Damp looked darn good out there.
We showed some solid trapping and defense at the end
The game would have looked MUCH different had we been making shots
We got lots of the right shots
DA looks like he is catching on really quickly.
Nowitzki still caught 27 points
Terry playing less intelligently but still being high-energy
only 9 TOs

Some bad things:
The shooting
The defensive breakdowns at times
Bradley's attrocious play
Booth has a wraparound pass and a quick behind the back dribble, but he's pretty clueless and he's too shrimpy to battle for boards
15 assists
outrebounded by 6

With our defensive problems Finley isn't really a savior, he will likely just make things worse in that regard. We will also lose Josh's rebounding the more Finley plays.

i echo those thoughts completely. nothing sucks more than getting your ass kicked by a contending team, makes the mavs look like pretenders. it's always an upsetting reality check. i get so upset i just change it in mid quarter so i don't break my remote.

Well, we got smashed on our home court for the 2nd time in a week..........then again, Daryl Armstrong played 27 minutes and managed to jack up ten shots...that'll help us later in the season as he matures.

Very crappy game that saw Dirk shooting poorly. Although most of the team was shooting poorly for a while. I wish dirk had of gone to the hole a lot earlier, rather than later. The refs were poor. Same old story but dirk was way off. It's good to know it won't get much worse next time. Detroit really isn't that great and we could have had this game if we shot better. We can win next time as long as we shoot well. The spurs are a different story. We're still in trouble when we play them.

they aren't that great? they are the champions..saying the pistons aren't that great is like saying the spurs aren't great..totally stupid statement to make. Pistons have started average this year but with wallace back they will start piling up the wins. Their defense was great and it looks to be back to what it was last year and thats how they won it all.

Exactly. I am not saying that Mavs has to win all the time but I hate it when they lose to an Eastern time and a contending team because that will make people think Mavs is "not ready". Mavs is not very good at home game anymore.... not without Nash. Mavs used to hold the best home game but they've lost two ugly home games already to good teams. If they can't even win home games against "good" team, I wonder how far they will go in the playoff.

Dirk had a horrible shooting tonight but he did try to go to the line to get 27 in the end. I guess there's just not enough defense to stop them scoring... sigh.

Jimmy

Exactly. In fact, he played so well that apparently Nelson is going to start him for a while.

Damn mad scientist.

dont like it in theory or in practice...

Terry is the better player between he and DA and Harris has more potential between he and DA...so what does Nellie do: think about starting him.

I guess now it's safe to say that when Dirk shoots poor it's an automatic loss for us. I just wish they would just attack the basket when their shots aren't following.

It wasn't just Dirk, nobody could hit an outside shot. It is hard to get anything going when the Pistons are going the other way on a fast break. This game tonight will likely be different.
