He's gotta leave after all this attention he's getting from teams. I'll love it too cause it takes all the distraction on him. While we work with Whiteside at the right time.

I'd think Wade possibly leaving probably hurts our chances at getting Whiteside. Just opens up a ton of cap space for the Heat to re-sign him without missing out on the early days of the Durant sweepstakes.

If Whiteside is really serious about having a deal done on July 1st, then Wade possibly leaving definitely bodes well for the Mavs. Let's hope Wade and Durant both drag out the signing process as long as possible.

Also i don't know why Portland isn't getting more run as a threat to sign HW. Great young playoff team.

@ESefko: from http://sportsbettingdime.com: Hassan Whiteside odds on signing with: Mavericks 7/4, Blazers 5/2, Heat 3/1, field 7/1.

@HPbasketball: From what I’m told, Whiteside is leaning away from teams without stable organizations.
We can probably scratch the Lakers off the list...

Are the Mavs a stable organization with the roster turnovers year after year?

Ownership isn't in flux, GM/coach/owner all very clearly on the same page, team is in the playoffs every year. I don't think a guy looking for his first max contract is going to see that as an unstable organization... JMO.
Two Miami-based reporters predicting Whiteside ends up with the Mavs, one (Ethan Skolnick, who I feel is a very reliable, plugged-in guy) stating that he feels Riley is "looking for an out" so he doesn't have to roll the dice on Whiteside as a max player:

Seems like the exact same situation with us and Parsons. Dude is skilled, but even healthy he's not a max guy, but will most likely get a max offer.

I think the fact that Whiteside really came through in the playoffs before getting injured made him at very least almost worth the max.
And 14/12/4 with a 26 PER is as max worthy as any of the 2nd tier stars this offseason.

So the Heat are getting their Durant meeting just at sunday. I cant see Whiteside waiting this long. Not to mention the Wade situation.
Bosh/Dragic/McRoberts/Winslow are ~50m committed. Maxing out Hassan and they not even have max money for Durant left.

Don't forget Bosh is on the brink of retirement. Miami could be in a blunder. While we can be able to persuade Whiteside one season with Dirk can prove we can contend.

Chris Bosh is only 32 and has 3 years, $76m left on his contract -- dude isn't retiring before Dirk.

I think yahyes was alluding to the possibility that Bosh may be forced to retire due to health concerns.

Bosh told he has no intentions to retire and there is no way they Heat pull off a medical retirement + added cap within the next 2-3 days...specially with Bosh wanting no part of it.

Bosh still hasn't said anything one way or another -- he could retire, he could be fine, it depends on what his doctors say... And Miami's pursuit of Durant probably indicates that he'll be back, otherwise why do they think they have a shot? Durant isn't going to a rebuild, which is what they'd be if Bosh retired.
Besides, I don't think Bosh (or Dirk, for that matter) has anything to do with Whiteside's decision -- he's looking for the best longterm situation... Neither of those guys will be around at the end of his contract.

Yep. Bosh can play at an elite level for many years to come but his condition has to be considered very dangerous and risky to continue. Shame too because I really like Bosh as a player and person. 1 of the few Miami players I've ever actually liked TBH.

@ESefko
Sounds like it's down to Heat and Mavericks for Hassan Whiteside, per @WojVerticalNBA ... Odd that Portland didn't make the cut.

Well that makes it a 50% chance of happening if recent reports are true. Woj doesn't generally make this stuff up.

Conflicting reports coming out now about whether Portland is still in the running for Hassan Whiteside. Lots to like about the Blazers.

Heat can offer 4m more than the Mavs (7.5 raise instead of 4.5)
Oregon has 9.9% income tax
Thats way more than 10m difference between Heat and Blazers. Dont see him joining the Blazers.

On the Lowe Post Brian Windhorst two interesting tidbits:
·Heat hoping to meet with Hassan today, hoping to start negotiations with him (just as OKC did with Durant yesterday)
·Windhorst says "the feeling around Miami is that Whiteside is probably leaving" and that Riley would rather keep the door open for Durant than lock down the Whiteside contract on day one.
Good news from the Mavs' perspective.

It appears that if Whiteside really wants to make a quick decision, then the Mavs have an excellent shot.
However, I am guessing the Heat will try to convince him that he should wait. They will concoct some reason like they need to make a few maneuvers/trades so they can free up cap space and sign him along with Durant. Of course, that is all likely a smoke screen to wait out the KD decision. Assuming Hassan verbally commits to the Mavs, I will have a kanipshin if between July 1 and July 8, it becomes clear KD is staying in OKC and the Heat circle back to Whiteside in an attempt to change his mind.....feels like deja vu all over again.
Of course, there is nothing you can do about this... you have to take your shots and hope for the best. Maybe Cuban can make him take a blood oath.

Miami will realize pretty quick that Durant isn't coming. Hopefully Wade throws a wrench in it and Whiteside jumps on with Dallas. If he doesn't then I don't see how you get Conley. I view Batum as independent of these events.

Just b/c we are 1 of 2 teams doesn't mean we have a 50% chance. I'd guess it's probably 80% MIA and 20% Dallas, with Dallas largely being used as negotiating leveraged to force MIA to make a good and fast offer.
Just feels like we've seen this before.

Until we get our first big fish I'm always assuming no one will actually come to Dallas. It's such a frustrating situation the Mavs are in these days.

Whiteside is the first big fish we're speculating on though. And yes, the odds are probably less than 50/50 that we land him, but the we're certainly in a much better situation than I thought we were a week ago. This is maybe the most coveted FA in the league outside of Durant, and the Mavs have made to his final two. That's reason to be at least a little hopeful.
Besides, I do think the Mavs' free agency woes in recent years are just a little overblown. After the title we missed out on Dwight and Deron, so "plan powder" didn't work out, and then last year of course there was the DJ fiasco. But in the past couple of seasons we landed Chandler Parsons, Monta Ellis and Wesley Matthews. All three pretty big talents, so it's not like the Mavs haven't had any success in free agency in recent years.

Honestly I hope Carlisle goes up to Whiteside face to face and says "Let's win this now!'. Cause if Carlisle can help Tyson, Zaza, Haywood, Blair, and Ryan Hollins(back when we played the spurs that one year in 08 or 09) look good. Sky is the limit.
