The Good Vibez Thread
There?s been more than enough focus and scrutiny on what the Mavs have done wrong the past few years. Ahead of a crucial draft lottery, I?d like to dedicate this thread to good vibrations.
We drafted Luka mf Doncic with the 3rd pick in the 2018 draft.
We shall draft his partner in crime Victor mf Wembanaya with the 1st pick in the 2023 draft after moving up from 10th. LFG.

This thread will die quick if we drop to 11.
We need that pick, and then we can be more optimistic.

Sorry man, I just feel like we always get screwed draft-wise.
I think Kyrie stays though.

I think I read the Mavs have never moved up in the lottery? 20 years ago the Mavs had the best odds and ended up picking #4. Time for that to change. Nico better bring his lucky horseshoe!

Each lottery is an independent event. Past failure or success is irrelevant. We are much more likely to lose the pick than move up to Wemby. I am just hoping to keep the pick at 10. That would be a victory.

I hope we move up a few spots to secure a player we really need. I'm not asking for a large miracle, just a few spots.i also hope we if we keep the pick, this player is able to immediately contribute while climbing to stsr potential

Lottery is rigged otherwise they would show us the ping pong balls. Nobody will convince me otherwise.

I doubt lottery is rigged (nowadays) given that each team has reps watching what occurs.

If the we do get the top 10 pick - then does NY get our pick next year
no matter what - or is it lottery protected as well?

I believe the pick is top 10 protected in both 2024 and 2025. If the FRP does not transfer by 2025, then the NYK get the Mavs 2025 SRP.
In 16 drawings they have never moved up and in 7 of those 16 the ball has bounced the wrong way. The Mavs are overdue for a good bounce tonight.
Let's Go Mavs...

Im not sure if youre aware but our only options are top 4, or 10/11. Hoping we keep the pick as well. 10 feels like a miracle with past history

Most likely to retain the No. 10 position (65.9 percent), with 20.2 percent odds of sliding out of the top 10.
If the Knicks don't receive the Mavs pick this year, it will remain top-10 protected in either 2024 or 2025, or else they would receive a second-round selection.

Technically, we can get
1,2,3,4
or
10,11,12
12 is unlikely but possible

11,12 is not unbearable as it would put a final nail in the Porzingis trade.

Spurs getting Wemby just ruined the fact that we get to keep the pick. Now it's get a real center or bust.

Wemby is a freak, but he isn?t the sort of facilitator that can succeed immediately in the NBA like LeBron/ Luka? plus now I get to watch him live here in SA

The knob slobbing of Wemby as the best prospect ever in all sports was ridiculous. People forget that Woj and Sham are only good for one thing and that is for sure not their sports opinion lol
Just an incredible amount of drooling for the ESPN production but cannot say I didn't expect it. Loved the Twitter response showing all of the way over the top production the same people did for LeBron. I think they just want to be right again after Zion and others have come and failed (to those expectations, not necessarily career)

Wemby will have to stay healthy first.... but if he does, he's a better version of pre-injury Porzingis.... but he still isn't the ball handler that elevates an entire team like Luka/ Lebron

Also, good vibez time.... LFG!!!! If Kyrie re-signs we are sitting pretty:
Luka
Kyrie
Green
Hardy
#10
Bull
THJ
Kleber
all have value.... Bertans and McGee we'll just have to swallow, but McGee doesn't earn that much, and Bertans is basically an expiring (24-25 season salary only guaranteed if he plays 75% of the games in 23-24).
Simply put, despite misstep after misstep, we're not THAT bad off. Let's fucking do this. The West is wide open. We have owned both teams in the WCF in the Luka-era. We are easily a contender if we play this right.

I mean anyone that has seen Wemby play gets it. He is one of the better prospects I've ever seen. Lebron was too. I had never seen someone with handles, as fast and big as Lebron. And while his body is different, I've never seen someone Wemby's size move like that. It is funny though that arguably the two best players in the NBA in Giannis and Jokic....no one saw coming lol. I don't think you can just see greatness coming at you and determine its here. Wemby will have to earn that.

It depends on how they treat this offseason. That above just isn't enough.
I think they also need to figure out are the rebuilding or winning now. You can't do that with Kyrie.

Oh for sure, he's a generational talent but it's also sensational to state something like what Woj went on about.
Of the top, it's easy LeBron for me over him and I'm glad I was old enough to witness both. I do think Wemby and his game translate super easily, but I don't envision the same type of rookie year as LeBron. There's also relevant questions as to his body type in terms of not only health and longevity, but how will he stack against the much bigger and physical bigs of the NBA. He's just not a simply clear cut as the others.
As for other sports, I'd have to say Ohtani probably eclipses Wemby for me. And then it gets super tough given the timelines for football players and even hockey. I don't know if I start putting others ahead of him. Such guys like Bryce Harper, Stephen Strasburg, Andrew Luck, and while I'm not a big hockey guy, I remember when Crosby and Ovechkin were coming into the league and the hype around them.
But yea, strictly basketball, he's second only to LeBron. As good as MJ and KD were coming out of school, they don't come close to the fanfare of LeBron and Wemby. I just found it a strange declaration is all.
Edit: also, good point on Giannis and Jokic.

Tough to sell a rebuild with an all-time player in his prime and Kyrie half in hand along with pieces to move or use to contend.
I think they draft a versatile wing or trade the pick for a big like Myles Turner.
