NBA summer league 2023 thread

Roster still developing but hoping for some Hardy to show his game and throw some oops to Lively.
Mavs playing in Vegas which runs July 7-July 17 and our first game is July 8

What happened to Wright?
I have high hopes for Lawson this year.

Zero stock is what I put into the summer league. It's 2 steps up from organized YMCA ball. But I still watch some... what I can tolerate of it anyway.

I hope Miles Jr. starts over Wright. But I am a very biased Horned Frog.

I would hope so, too, for Miles Jr. I have high hopes for him in that he provides some decent minutes off the bench for Mavs. I like Wright, but I'm afraid his ceiling has been met in an end of the bench type of backup PG. Think Miles Jr. can provide more.

To distract myself from this disappointing FA season, I am going to count down until we can see Lively and OMax play
4 days 17 hours

I had talked myself into driving to Vegas from my home in Northern New Mexico. Even booked a condo. Then my wife saw that every day the forecast is for 109 or more and chickened out. Its over 700 miles, so thats 1.5 days in the car each way, by myself, to see 3 games, so I backed out too. At least most games will be on TV here...in Luka's rookie year, they were not

3 days, 2 hours
Bad news is that the two trades have not been completed so OMax and Lively have not cleared here so they can?t have contact practices. I think that?s why Dudley is working with Hardy so much.

NBA is pretty archaic in some of the rules around the draft and free agency. Silly, really.

Deals should clear tomorrow (the 6th) and then they can do contact drills and 5-on-5
Depending on timing they will have a practice Friday and maybe one Thursday before the game Saturday.

Got tickets for Friday to see Wemby v Miller, and Scoot the game before. only doing one day, then getting tf out of Vegas for the weekend heat.
Bummer I?ll miss Mavs. Last few times I was burned by such a crappy roster. I remember being so hype for Gal Mekel lol

Ha! At least it will be on TV.
I went to see Pops Mensa-Bonsu and Pavel Podkolzine along with Mo Ager. It was fun how laid back it was back then, but man those teams were not good and none of them actually made a team.

OMP guarding holmgren - nice that he has enough length and size for that.

lively looks good for what we need, but Cason Wallace looks really good too - solidly built and has been hitting his outside shots well.

Chet fouls are ridiculous. Just all arms and elbows and gets away with it. Hardy doesn?t get bumped off his spot and it?s a Hardy foul.

Only caught the last 3 min, but cool to hear Kyrie was there.
Edit: looks like THJ, Maxi, and Josh Green were there too.
Tim MacMahon: Kyrie Irving just walked in the Thomas and Mack Center to watch the Mavs? summer leaguers. ? via Twitter espn_macmahon

Cason Wallace had a great game. No doubt about it.
But how many times did the announcer have to say "HE DIDN'T HAVE ANY PRACTICE!"
The Mavs had TWO players in the same situation and that never got mentioned for them.

It sucks not needing a point guard because there are so many good ones in the league and available. Cason looks damn good.

I enjoyed watching the young rooks. Much better watching now seeing guys like Hardy, Lively and OPM knowing these guys have a legit shot at being apart of our future. It was rough two years ago.

Hardy was the best player on the floor by a good margin. He has star potential, maybe more.

Rooks will get up to 35mpg. they?re being phased in. Thank god. Nothing like watching entire lineups that are barely gleague.
The minutes with our young roster guys were good. OKC is just the greatest collection of young talent in the league.

Jaden Hardy is going to separate himself because of his insane work ethic. The Mavs need to give him every opportunity to be a key contributor this season

My big problem with the draft and with FA is we didn't address rebounding at all. How could the 30th team in rebounding not address it? Pretty wild.
That's why I wanted guys like Miller and TJD.
I'm sure Lively and Omax will help our defense, but not seeing the help with rebounding.

Yea. I don't see us being too much better this season at rebounding even with the improved roster.

I?m honestly not sure how you address it. Grant is a good rebounder, Holmes is. Andre Drummond would?ve been a good addition there. Ultimately though better defense should equate to more rebounds?.not sure how high that will get them though.

Yeah he looks good. He?s special when he attacks the basket. And his ability to hit an odd balance three is butter. He has all the tools to do well here. I watched a lot of guys who I think are going to have some great careers like Scoot, Chet?.Hardy fits right in with them.
