There's no shame the way they went out. They weren't supposed to make the playoffs and pull of the biggest upset in playoff history. They get Southern California celebrities to hop on their bandwagon. Then nearly beat the Jazz in 3 games this series. Watch out for the Dubs if they stay healthy next season.

He's right, qywahhh. The Warriors are an extremely talented team, and we're really in no position to mock them; getting knocked out of the 2nd is better than getting knocked out of the 1st. They're young, they're athletic, and they're only going to be better come next year.

wait... Maverick fans talking to Warrior fans? You must be kidding!

It may have been too much to think that an 8th seed could make it all the way to the Western Conference Finals. I'm sure Nelson will get his team there soon. Golden State is definitely a team on the rise. What strides they've made in only one year!

While Nelson is building up the Mavs, Cuban is tearing down the Mavs. What's amazing is that it took Nelson just one year to surpass Cuban. Sorry Mav fans. Golden State isn't going anywhere. You're going to have to see them again. But next time, they'll probably be the higher seeded team.

Ok, buddy. We've heard this kind of stuff every offseason.

Just run along to your Warriors' Board and enjoy your flash in the pan.

When they can keep their pistols tucked into their shorts, they're a very talented team. If they ever get a hold of their emotions and learn how to rebound they might be heard from again.

The Dubs will be next year exactly what they were this year -- a team that inevitably demonstrates the importance of rebounding and low-post play.

I'm sure Chris Mullin is going to make some good personnel changes to battle the loss to free agency. Maybe make a trade for a rebound beast like Millsap.

aw, remember when we used to say this when nellie coached the mavs? all we need is a rebounder!

but there's 2 things:

1) teams don't readily give away rebounding beasts
2) Nellie still won't play him!

I have only one message to the GSW fans: you should be ashamed of your team, they are thugs & goons.

Also, please stop with the "We Believe" crap. Your team hasn't sniffed the playoffs for decades, try getting into the playoffs consistently before "Believing".

I will give the Warriors credit for playing with intensity and confidence, and actually playing better than decent defense. I believe they will have a similar regular season record next year, but I will not be surprised if they are home fishin during the playoffs. And if they do make it to the postseason, you simply can't expect to win many playoff games when you need 15 3pters/game to be competitive. Eventually this style of ball catches up to you. Still they get an 'A' for effort in 2007 and I like Nellie (as long as he is coaching a team other than the Mavs) because he keeps life interesting.

There is no reason to be talking smack right now. The Mavs were eliminated by them, but the Dubs only made it to the second round. Neither team should be talking smack right now.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Coach Don Nelson isn't sure he'll return to guide the Golden State Warriors through the next stage of their resurgence.

Nelson plans to decide by July 1 whether he'll be back for another season with the Warriors, whose surprising playoff run ended Tuesday night with a second-round loss to the Utah Jazz. The defeat capped the franchise's first winning regular season and postseason berth since 1994.

"It's not a good time for me to make that decision," Nelson said Wednesday at the Warriors' downtown training complex. "I think it was really important that I came here. I'm not so sure it's important that I stay on."

Nelson, who turned 67 on Tuesday, went 42-40 in his first season back with Golden State, where he also coached from 1988-95. His 1,232 career coaching victories are the second-most in NBA history.

After snapping their 13-year playoff drought on the final day of the regular season, the eighth-seeded Warriors shocked the Dallas Mavericks in the first round, beating the NBA's best regular-season team -- and Nelson's former employer -- in six games. Utah beat the Warriors in five games, though all four losses were close.

Although Nelson signed a three-year contract to replace Mike Montgomery last August, he wants time to talk over his future with his wife, Joy, before committing to another year of the NBA grind, which gave him sleepless nights and added 15 pounds to his figure. Nelson plans to relax on the beach at his home in Maui until his head is clear.

Warriors probably fans shouldn't worry too much, however. Nelson also said he plans to keep his entire coaching staff intact, and he spoke optimistically of the Warriors' potential for improvement with a full healthy season for the roster that finished the regular season 16-5 before flattening the Mavs.

Nelson plans to add his opinions to top executive Chris Mullin's plans for the draft next month, and he'll decide his future around that time as well.

"I'm kind of anticipating coming back, but I'm just not totally sure," Nelson said. "Whether I want to put my body through another year or two would be the main issue. I'm not 66 any more. There's another life out there outside of basketball that's very enjoyable, especially when you have the means that I have at this particular time in my life."

Thumbs down I wonder about Nellie's motives...

Nellie compromsied himself when he allowed his GSW players to conduct themselves like thugs. I was shocked to see him carry-on in their huddle during the pre-games. I don't ever recall Nellie behaving this way with his Mavericks. In fact, he denounced such behavior by the Mavericks, to the point of disallowing Antoine Walker to do the "shimmy" on the floor. I guess Nellie's standards were lowered when his only "motive was to stick it to Mark Cuban and the Mavericks." Now that GSW is out of the playoffs, where is his motivation? He's ready to play golf and BDiddy will conduct practice....Sounds familiar.

Cubes said it would be pretty interesting to see what nellie did now that expectations have gone sky-high. This surely does seem like a broken-record that we've heard before, that's for sure.

First he'll ask for a new 3yr contract... next he'll start mailing it in at the first sign of trouble... and finally he'll offer to retire if they pay him what's left on his contract.

Now, for the real serious irony.

I was thinking several days ago that the Mavs may have beaten the Warriors.... if we still had Shawn Bradley...

now before you go ballistic with hate mail, consider that the Mavs lost because they couldn't put a big man near the basket who could take a pass and score efficiently enough to prevent the constant double team on Dirk. I think that Bradley actually would have busted that zone defense up very well.

Bradley was a bust. But, there was the occasional game and the occasional team where Bradley did well. I think that ironically we were missing Bradley in that series.

Now, naturally, I'd rather have Boozer...

From Dlord at dallasbasketball.com Someone doesn't respect someone.

Predictable Nellie move.

He was spoiled by the way he was able to quit in Dallas and still get paid, for doing absolutely nothing for two seasons. He'll keep trying to play the Warriors for more money one way or the other - a mix of threats to quit, interspersed with "woe is me, maybe I should step down for the good of the team and take a lesser role" statements - in hopes of convincing them to give him a financial windfall. But they've seen his act before and know better. I suspect they'll play chicken with him, he'll get no raise (other than whatever his contract calls for), and he will finish out his contract.

Don't fall for the threats to "retire." Nellie NEVER walks without getting paid in full. Never. Follow the money.

If Nellie walks, he's walking away from the salary, too. This is patently obvious.

What he did in Dallas, in effect, was allow Cuban to fire him without losing face.

Patently obvious... how is that? If Nellie walks away from salary... that would be the first time!!

And what he did in Dallas, was allow Cuban to fire him without losing whose face... Cuban's or his own?

If he was a man of honor, and if he didn't feel like coaching the team... he could have just retired and walked away with dignity!

Nellie's on-the-record comments were that he needed to go there, but that he may not need to stay there. And that he has the financial means to walk away from the job. It's pretty much two-plus-two from there that if he walks away he is walking away from the contract, too.

Nellie had been fired several times before, so that's not the first place I would look. And Cuban had been stealing face from Nellie for a good two or three years prior to the "resignation."

If Cuban were a man of honor, he would have fired Nelson and spent the money rather than keeping Nelson around and undermining him at every turn.

If Nellie were dishonorable, he would have got back at Cuban by undermining the team. But instead Nellie groomed his replacement and demonstrated Johnson's competence enough so that Cuban was able to make the move he always wanted to make.

Remember, if Cuban said no to the money, Nellie was going to continue to do the job he signed up to do.

Didn't he have all the financial means to walk away from Dallas too, a few years ago...?

Please explain what you mean by Cuban stealing face from Nellie. From what I know, they are both equally guilty of ruining that relationship!

I don't see how Cuban tried to undermine Nellie at all. He did make a huge mistake of not matching PHX's offer to Nash... and I'm sure he had enough discussions with Nellie and Donnie before he determined what Nash's market value was. Outside of that, can you name one thing that he did to undermine Nellie?!

I'll give that to you. Nellie certainly was kind enough to groom his replacement rather than leave the team in total disarray. For that, I'll always respect him.

Finally, if Cuban said no to the money, Nellie 'said' he was going to continue to do the job... but as we all know, he had already quit on the team long before that! He just threw an ultimatum at Cuban: Pay me and you can have Avery coaching the team to order and potential wins... OR pay me anyways and you could have me coaching the team to confusion and potential losses!!

What do you think Cuban should have done?!
