Default Cowboys lock up Terry Glenn. 5 years 20 mill

Glenn signs five-year, $20M deal with CowboysESPN.com news services

Dallas Cowboys receiver Terry Glenn signed a five-year, $20 million contract extension Monday.

Glenn

Glenn's new contract, which runs through 2010 and replaces a previous contract that had one year remaining, comes just more than a week after Terrell Owens signed a three-year, $25 million deal with the Cowboys.

In the wake Owens' deal, Glenn suggested last week he might seek to have his own deal upgraded. At the same time, Glenn said his contract would not be an issue and emphasized he would not skip offseason workouts or training camp.

"We been trying to do something and have talked about it for a while. It finally came together," said Glenn's agent, Jimmy Gould. "He's excited about it. With he and T.O., it's a good deal."

Glenn was to have earned a 2006 base salary of $2 million and would have been eligible for unrestricted free agency next spring.

The Cowboys acquired Glenn, 31, in a 2003 trade with the Green Bay Packers. In three seasons in Dallas, he has 138 catches for 2,290 yards and 14 touchdowns. His average yards per catch in Dallas (16.6) is better than his career average (14.9). In 2005, his third season in Dallas and first reunited with quarterback Drew Bledsoe, Glenn had 62 receptions for 1,136 yards and seven scores. That performance represented his most receptions since 2000 and his most yards since 1999.

In 10 NFL seasons with the New England Patriots (1996-2001), Packers (2002) and Cowboys, Glenn has 523 catches for 7,726 yards and 86 touchdowns. He has played in 121 games and started 113 of them.

Still regarded as a viable deep threat, even after 10 seasons in the league, Glenn forces secondaries to honor his speed and, in that regard, should be an excellent complement for Owens.

A former Ohio State star, Glenn was selected by New England in the first round of the 1996 draft, when Bill Parcells was head coach. He set a then-rookie record that season with 90 receptions.

Seems kind of pricey to me but but he is a solid guy. Will he play five more years? Solid lock up.

Wonder why they don't want to extend Bledsoe?

Damn. Seems a bit steap but you can't argue with the stats he put up last season. I'm just not sure how many years he has left.
