Mavericks need to trade for some stability at point guard, let's hope the front office can work something out without giving up a key piece. Losing Fisher is actually kind of a bummer, wish he would have waited for Dirk to return at least. The final statement certainly seems like fake gratitude. Only time will tell if he hops on another team.
Some dark days for this team. I'm still shocked at the extent of the pessimism though, we still have not seen Dirk play ONE GAME with these guys yet. The fact that they have remained around .500 still gives me some hope.

Maybe they want to make Mayo play the point? I don't know.

When we're at full strength that might be a legit question, but the last few weeks we've have Dhantay Jones playing heavy minutes, and we even had Fisher and Collison playing together in the back court. We have plenty of room for a SG in the rotation in the near term.

Yep, Mayo is the only true 2 that the Mavs have.
Maybe it's time to start Wright (again)?

His numbers aren't shabby, but our PG position surely is.
22.5ppg, 5.4rpg, 4.6apg, 1.9spg on 50% FG, 40% 3pt, 90% FT with some decent defense.

Maybe he was clashing with Rick, but I think it may be even simpler than that. He thought the Mavs might be decent, instead they're now 3 games below .500. He has no interest in being on a non-playoff team.

Do you have an opinion on the merits--or lack thereof, as it may be--of his behaviour?

I gave you guys plenty of time to mention the obvious irony of the Mavs releasing Fish but you blew it.

It is worth mentioning that he's given up a TON of money when leaving his teams. Not like he plays hardball on buyouts and double dips.

On the one hand, I want to give the guy credit for clearly caring about his family. That's obviously the most important thing.
But on the other hand, I think there is much more to this than just "I miss my family." I suspect he's been disingenuous--or at least not fully forthcoming--both times. Especially this time.

I just hope they set their mind straight which way to go with the PG position rather sooner than later. Sign someone now or roll with the guys we have.

If the Mavs are gonna stink next few years they just need to face it go with the youth movement. Fisher was not gonna do a thing for Mavs at all.

I don't think they have a clear cut winner on the team now. They have to do both, look for someone else and try to get either dojo/collison to step up. I read some dallasnews guy touting roddy as being in that mix but I don't see it.

I'm starting to think we should fire Carlisle. He hasn't succeeded with helping Beaubois and Collison get comfortable on the court. Maybe teaching point guards the game isn't his strong point and that's what we need from our coach since we have no Jason Kidd.

You're starting to think it's Carlisle fault for Roddy and Collison not being successful? How long have you been brewing on this? I assure you that you have spent to much time on it. Maybe they just don't get it and won't get it. But perhaps we should just roll thru coaches until someone makes them figure it out. Surely they are the key and the coach is holding them back.

I wished we would've signed Shaun Livingston, I feel he really could've done some good things here. Anyway, something needs to be done about the PG situation.

Man, that's ridiculous. Carlisle and dirk are just about the only thing to keep in this organization.
Ps.. Marion as well probably.

Jeezus. No he's not.
I mean he can be bad, but c'mon.
Let CDR run the show, why not. Might was well have someone who has no idea what the plays are, if there are any. Just tell him, "Give the ball to Dirk, if he's not open, go dunk it." -tnc

Maybe a bit too much but Jones can't shoot, can't finish and i don't see any improvments in those areas, so yeah he is pretty bad.
CDR should get some burn to see what the team can get out of him.

Yea, it would be a (slightly) different story if he could shoot it. He has gotten a little better at finishing near the rim but, when the team starts to fall apart he goes face first with them instead of standing them back up and getting things in order.

Kaman was just on the Ticket and elluded to the fact that most of the guys were annoyed that Fisher left like that and thought he did a good job especially with the leadership role.

I also don't like his walking back after turning it over and see other guys run past him to get back on D.

Wonder if Fisher is going to sign with the Lakers. Although he's not a fast player and won't fit into D'Antoni's run and gun game. Here's hoping nobody wants him-he's a douchebag who only wants to hop on an easy gravy train-he seemed fine living in OKC last year...could it be because the Thunder were winning?
Guess he just wants an easy path to another championship and isn't interested in really working for his money.
What a weak ass quitter.

Can't really blame the guy. They were giving him starter minutes with 38 year old wheels. Playing on a bad team is so much more difficult than playing on a team like the thunder where he will have half the load.

Who cares about Fisher? Seriously. He's not even a "He's 1-for-7 but wait until attempt #8!" threat anymore. He's just terrible... almost no redeeming value as an NBA player at this stage of his career.
That said, I would have rather just kept him instead of signing Mike James, but I understand why Fisher wanted a clean break.

He knew what he was getting into when signing here, so the minutes issue is negligent.
I've lost a lot of respect for Fisher. I really believe we could have won some of these closer games with minutes going to him over James or Collison, at least in crunch time. I hope he doesn't win another ring now.

The thing about Fisher is that he is a douchebag that uses his family's health issues as a shield to being a self-entitled spoiled kid. And this is the 3rd time this has happened where he ends up on a crappy team and uses his family as an excuse to go to a title contender. Utah, Houston and now Dallas. Its like the tag for this thread says "championships cure cancer." What a low life to use your family in such a way.
He may be rich, but he is morally bankrupt. This is worse than Odom quitting on the team. As a Mavs fan, yes Odom was more fruserating/insulting. But if these 2 guys were to have never been Mavs and did this to some other team, most people here would probably agree that Fisher was the bigger douchebag. Since he used his family as leverage and he has done it now 3 times.
Maybe this should be a lesson for us when thinking about picking up ex-Lakers, like Dwight Howard, in the future. We have struck out now 2 years in a row with the experiment. It seems ex-Lakers have been spoiled and their egos have been inflated with this great sense of self-entitlement. If they dont get their way they would rather quit on their teammates than suck it up for the betterment of the team. Howard has already shown he fits into the same mold.
I will give him this, Fisher was decent for the Mavs. Some people here talk about how he is washed up and is worthless, but for those 9/10 games he gave us a Kidd-like presence on the floor. Sadly, he was our best point guard and outplayed Collison while here. The Mav's are weaker without Fisher than with him. Heck just look at his replacement in Mike James. Fisher is MUCH better than James.
