You know, when TO gets back, we really are going to be dangerous... How many times has our number 1 offense punted? Sure, the numbers are skewed a bit as we are facing poor teams, (or good teams with many defensive starters out), but the competition is still fierce as backups are fighting for spots on the team.

I sure hope we sweep the pre season and take some confidence into week 1 vs. the Jags...

I am sick and tired of Skyler Green. I didn't like that draft choice when we made it. That's way too early to draft a specialist like him.

I like Jamaica Rector. And Sam Hurd.

Hope my boy Tyson Thompson does some good at RB in this second half.

That may be Bill's worst pick as a Cowboy.

Terry Glenn has flypaper for hands. I honestly don't think there is a better set of hands in the NFL. Remember, that dude cost us only a sixth-round pick. Pwned!

Rector probably won a job tonight (if he wouldn't have already). Hurd would now be the guy competing with Copper.

Green, thank goodness, probably tonight made it real hard on himself to make the team. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Hate to see Hannam and Ryan display such bricks for hands.

Glad to see Thompson show some spurt in there. Hope he can become the change-up back.

Not a great game for Elam, I don't think. But he's still safe.

Suisham was kicking the ever-loving crap out of the ball on kickoffs. But why did Fredrickson not get the punts? Bill said he was going to punt him in this game. Maybe he made a decision after he saw Suisham kicking it past God and everybody.

That said, I like Fredrickson.

Heaven help the opposing linemen if Hatcher keeps showing that kind of surge.

Anyone who drafted Julius Jones early on for their fantasy team might end up wishing they had chosen MB3 instead. Dude will score a bunch of touchdowns this year.

Terry Glenn does have great hands, but Lloyd, Harrison, and Steve Smith are a few imo who have better.

Let's just put it this way. I can't remember the last time I saw Glenn drop a ball. And I've seen him make ALL kinds of near-unbelievable catches. I haven't watched those guys you mention all that much, but I can't see how they could be better. At best, they would be equals.

Glenn is very good, and yes he makes a lot of great catches, but Brandon Lloyd is one of the best at the "how did he do that?" catches. Steve Smith and Harrison are also very good at that, they seem to never drop the ball, and they make some great catches.

Basically, there are a lot of very very good receivers in the NFL, Glenn is one of them, but he's not the best.

He had an inordinate number of drops in his fire year here. I remember one home game in particular, Glenn caught a ball over the middle and as he hit the ground, the ball popped straight up and got picked. Not sure what was affecting him this season but I'm glad he's over it.

There's also the Bledsoe factor. It's clear that Drew feels more comfortable going to Glen then any other receiver on the roster. That includes Jason Whitten who would be a security blanket for most QB's.

Of course Drew's insistence on getting the ball to Glenn may have costs us a couple of games last year. Both the Redskins and the Raiders game ended with Bledsoe going Glenn on short yardage 4th downs and Glenn being too small to power his way for the first (or touchdown in the Oakland game).

The amazing thing is that Washington didn't turn the ball over. It's hard enough for an NFL team to lose by 41, but to do it without giving away points is damn near unheard of.

D2, I do remember that Raiders game in particular, and I do remember thinking that Bledsoe was using Glenn as a sort of security blanket at that time.

But that was then. I'd appreciate it if you guys would start paying homage to a guy that is pretty much the best downfield threat in the game and the most surehanded receiver on the planet. I don't think there is any better deep connection threat in the game than Bledsoe to Glenn. It's time to recognize.

Jonathon freakin Scott is who we should have picked in the 4th. The best olineman on the best oline in the country is available in the 4th round and we take a return guy that runs a 4.5 and cant do anything else.

Palmer to johnson? manning to harrison? anyone to holt? Holt is the most underappreciated receiver in the nfl. He is the only player in nfl history with 6 straight 1300 yard seasons i believe.

having great hands doesn't mean you make a few spectacular plays

having great hands means that the guy never drops the ball and makes a special play seem routine

terry glenn has great hands
andre johnson has very underrated hands

keyshawn has pretty good hands

i dont know brandon lloyd's stats on passes dropped, but he does make nice catches.. but great hands? i dont know

Good point, alby. When you watch Glenn's mechanics, they are just so unbelievably sound. They are absolutely the model that EVERY receiver should emulate. The guy is like a huge Hoover vaccuum. And he has such extraordinary body control, to boot. I've never seen anyone with hands even approaching his. He redefines "good hands," if you ask me.

Chum I appreciate Glenn as much as anybody but Parcells has said, on more than one ocassion, that Patrick Crayton has the best hands on the team.

It's probably a pointless arguement anyway. If you're going by Alby's definition then you'd have to watch every team play every week. For all we know, the 3rd reciever for the Jets never drops a ball. Maybe he's a number three guy because he doesn't have the range or speed to be a number one.

I'm watching the game again, on the NFL channel replay. There are ten minutes left, and the Niners have 4th-and-less-than-one near midfield, with about ten minutes to play, down ten points. They punt.

Now, I have already seen the game, so I know they don't get the ball back. But now I am wondering about the call here. Unless you just want to see your punting unit or something, is this not a dumb call? You need to score two times more often than the other team, and you are giving them back the ball with ten minutes to play, when you only need a half-yard?

I hate that call. Then again, I hate a lot of NFL coaches' calls. I don't think they have a good grasp of probabilities.

Glenn dropped a ball in the first quarter of last nights pre season game. The announcers even made reference to it saying he looked down at his hands as if they failed him. But I definitely agree with your overall point... He sure does seem to catch a ton of hard to catch balls.

yeah its safe to say its rector and hurd in, green and copper out.
Hopefully Rector can return punts, he does have some moves, but if not, crayton isn't terrible.
