Root for SA to beat Utah and Sacto to be Portland.

Could still happen, though. Even works without beating Utah.
(would need for 2b from the tie-breaker list to be to Memphis' disadvantage if there are more than two teams at 42-40. 3b & 4b should be in our favor over MEM h2h)

The Mavs could use the Golden State winning out. If GS beats SA, that'll pretty much wrap up the West for GS... and two losses for Memphis would be nice although it's likely not to play a role in where the Mavs end up... GS needs to keep winning just in case the Mavs are knocking on the Grizzlies door for a spot. The Grizz play Dallas, GS, Clippers, and GS.... could lose out. But, that would require the Warriors to have something left to play for the rest of the way. So, GS needs to beat the Spurs which would in turn give the Spurs nothing to play for... which could benefit the Mavs when the two match up to end the season.

5 MEM 42-36 27.0 DAL- GSW- LAC- GSW-
6 POR 43-37 27.0 MIN+ DEN+
7 DAL 40-38 29.0 MEM+ LAC- UTA- SAS-
8 UTA 39-39 30.0 LAC- DEN+ DAL+ LAL+
9 HOU 38-40 31.0 PHO+ LAL+ MIN+ SAC-

+ = win
- = loss

I think this is worst case scenario, we lose the last three games which puts us at #8:
5 POR 45-37
6 MEM 42-40
7 UTA 42-40
8 DAL 41-41
9 HOU 41-41

Probably best case scenario is we win vs UTA, then we jump to #6. I don't see us beating LAC since they are pumped to have Griffin back and SAS will not want to have a loss before the playoffs start

IDK....SAS might rather play a depleted and down trending Memphis team than a hot Dallas team so wouldn't surprise me if they sit some guys for that last game if Dallas can move to the 6 spot and Memphis would fall, or have a chance to fall to 7th.

SAS won't care about a loss before the playoffs IMO IF they have nothing left to play for.

OK, say SAS throws us a bone for the final game and we even won against LAC because Griffin breaks his other hand. We go 4-0 and end up with 44-38 record against high probability of Portland's 45-37. We're still #6.

Actually, looking at LAC now with Griffin back and the whole DJ thing, I may rather face OKC anyway so I'm kind of leaning towards prefering the 6 seed over the 5 seed now. That would also put us in the same bracket as SAS which is always a knock-down grudgematch in the playoffs it seems. It's all good! Bring on the playoffs!

Your worse case scenario with mavs and Houston same record means Houston gets the 8 spot. They have the tiebreaker. Not only that WORST case scenario is Houston winning out which is super possible.

‏@bobbykaralla: Houston (38-41) loses at home to Phoenix. Mavs' (40-38) magic number now 2 to clinch a playoff spot. Massive result for Dallas.

Amazing. Mavs still have to focus on themselves. Any backslide could cost them. Split the last 4 games. Or hope Houston loses to the twolves

If we can beat Memphis and Utah (which we can/should), then we're in.

And hopefully the spurs rest their starting 8 in the last game in case one of those games fall through

Tyson Chandler is a still a Maverick at heart. Rockets lose. Rockets lose!!!

The grizzlies have locked up a playoff seed with the Rockets losing to the suns. I think mavs best shot if they win out is the number 6 seed.

Having Memphis lock up a playoff spot, I hope that creates enough "phew we made it, oh we have a game tonight" and Mavs take advantage. Because the way the Mavs have been playing lately, griding out, is right up the Grizzlies alley.

San Antonio now has nothing to play for which could help the Mavs on the last day of the season. GSW has everything to play for and they have 2 games left against the Grizzlies... just too bad the Blazers don't have a more difficult ending schedule.

@FiveThirtyEight: Dallas has a 91% chance of clinching a playoff spot.

Hard to believe that our remaining schedule is clippers, jazz, and spurs

If we beat the Clips we will win out.
If we loose, it could hurt our confidence.

But right now, I see the Mavs entering the Playoffs on a 9 game winning streak.
