it will be entertaining if nothing else. I just hope that RC has the patience to play him through all of the stupid plays.

"Air McGee" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdtWY-sqZmk
The guy is absolutely crazy athletic as a true 7' center and as far as I know, he's always played with a lot of energy and heart.
The downsides has always been BBIQ and injury. For vet min, this is a very good pickup.

With Zaza, Dalembert and McGee, we have a pretty nice 3 headed center, and we have potential really nice center combo for the future if Carlisle/mavs shrink can get McGee to buy into the Mavs plan. He is an athletic freak!! it's going to be an interesting season.

Nice!! This is the definition of low-risk high-reward. It's a two year deal (2nd year team option) for the minimum. If he stays healthy he can be a legit starting center who can catch lobs/block shots for us. If he struggles or is injured a lot, we just don't pick up his option and move on. Let's just hope Wesley forgives him for this...

It looks like he can both be very good or very bad. I am happy that the Mavs are taking a chance on him. Now that we're 20 deep we have 7 guys battling it out for 2 spots too. There is no guarantee that McGee has won one of those 2 spots. It's just highly likely.

I wish he had the basketball IQ of Jason Kidd. Of course he wouldn't be coming to the Mavs then.

If he's healthy he will be the starting center. He has a lot of talent.

Yes, when he is healthy he will make a great and sometimes frustrating starting center and then ZaZa will be a very good backup. Neither one is offensive minded but should provide solid defense and rebounding which is what we need. And I cannot wait to see all of the lobs the other four starters will be throwing to him!

Best center left on the market, the roster spot is his to lose... Hopefully JaVale seizes the opportunity given to him.

I showed both McGee's highlights and goofs to my Dad, and he feels Carlisle is just what he needs to get to the next level. I hope he's right!

High potential for injury or re-injury: Harris, Williams, McGee, Parsons, Matthews.

Serious question: I see several youtube clips of him missing dunks which is going to be normal for a lot of players, but how many boneheaded plays are we really talking about? One per game? One every fourth game? I've never watched him consistently, so I don't know.
The missed dunks clips should not be included because even Blake Griffin can have his "Top 10 Missed Dunks" youtube:

I'd worry more about him actually being on the court. He started off last season as a solid backup only to get injured and never really recover.

Unfortunately these are the types of moves the Mavs will need to make the rest of Dirk's career and probably beyond.

FWIW :34 seconds in is one of the highest BBIQ moves in basketball. In regards of a big man. This doesn't happen near enough in the league.

I think someone posted an article that had a line that said something about Javale making the easy plays look difficult and making the difficult plays look easy. I would say that pretty much sums up Javale's career. The dude can do amazing things out there. He can make plays that are damn near impossible look routine (This comes to mind - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isR394ridLI0). He still needs to learn how to focus and consistently make the simple basketball plays. I hope Rick doesn't banish this guy to the doghouse because he can really be an impact player for us if he's healthy.

Every year I am amazed at what Donnie and friends pick up off the scrap heap. it is not the way I'd prefer they build a team. But Every year in mid-July I find myself wondering if they will even field a team. But suddenly we are much improved at PG and SG, and while we lost Tyson, we have a pretty strong center rotation. Plus we got a lot younger and have some interesting kids to develop.
I'd rather be rooting for a championship qualiy team, but lacking that, interesting games is a nice substitute.

I played golf hard once. Everyone could see it through my sweatpants. I'm not allowed back at that Hooters anymore. Which sucks because they are the only place in town with a Golden Tee machine.

This should be the Mav's theme this year. IF everyone is healthy, they should have a pretty good basketball team. They are going into the year with a whole lot of injury question marks. Lots of 'IFS' have to come together. McGee is probably only fourth on the injury IF Healthy list... About the only position the projected starter isn't on that list is PF--Dirk. Even he has an IF...IF his shooting can return to form. Towards the end of last year, it seemed to be.

I think this is a year for players to audition to be part of the core or rotation the following season.
Williams, McGee, Powell and Anderson all should have a good opportunity to become a big part of this team the following season depending on how well they do this year.
I don't expect much this year in terms of team success but will be mainly looking for guys to develop into larger roles going forward...especially McGee. I hope Rick has similar aspirations and gives these guys a fair opportunity.

Are we talking 5 lbs. or 15? Should I start eating with Ray now?

Let's tap the breaks. I like what we've done but pretty strong center rotation is seriously pushing the bounds of reality

Even a healthy McGee just puts us with a three headed backup center rotation. I agree that the FO did the best with what was left, but injuries are going to be a serious concern next season more than anything. That and rebounding will likely be woeful to deal with this season.

Seriously. Remember when Dally/Wright/DeJuan Fortson were going to be a wicked three-headed center?
Wright wasn't healthy and was never a real center, Dalembert was a talented headcase, and Blair was pretty amazing, but got killed defensively.
Three pretty good centers is definitely better than no good centers, but one great center is better than a bunch of talented, but flawed guys.

It's another 'IF'. It actually could be a pretty strong rotation (emphasis on rotation...none of them are great, but together they are pretty decent). If McGee can't play, the combination isn't so great. Essentially it is a mix of 3 pretty decent backup centers. Given the lack of quality and depth at this position around the league, that's not a bad rotation. Where would the Mavs rank at the center position overall currently (again, IF McGee is healthy). Not in the top 5, clearly...but how far down from there? Which teams have definitely better center rotations? Not all that many....they either lack a high quality starter, or depth, or in many cases, both.

BREAKING NEWS
Guys, I'm close to healthy and will be ready for the season.
Call me Cerberus, because all three heads of this center are mine! Suck it, Keanu.

It's easy to say you're healthy in August/September, but so far it seems Matthews, Parsons, and McGee could all be ready for the start of the regular season or not long after. Casey Smith does have his work cut out for him.
