Devil's Advocate on Team 3D
So on the chance that the Nets somehow complete a trade and Dwight/Deron both re-sign with them, what would our alternatives be to reload for next season?
Assuming we use the amnesty clause on Haywood, I would make our big target Marcin Gortat. Obviously he's been on our radar in the past, and he has shown that he is an excellent, versatile player who scores and rebounds well. What do you guys think about this trade?
Dallas sends JET, Roddy, Odom, 1st round pick, $2.4M (to pay for Odom's buyout)
Dallas receives Gortat and Steve Nash
Phoenix sends Gortat and Steve Nash
Phoenix receives JET, Roddy, Odom, 1st round pick, $2.4M (to pay for Odom's buyout)
I think Nash has at least 2 years in him at his current level. We can re-sign him next year to a reasonable deal and bring Kidd back to have the creakiest PG rotation of all-time.

I guess I meant that we'd pull the trigger on this deal at the trade deadline and use the amnesty on Wood this summer to open additional cap space.

Sure, we're effectively giving the Suns Roddy and get Nash & Gortat.
That's going to work.

There should be a rule here that you don't comment negatively on trade suggestions unless you actually provide some form of insight instead of "not happening lol."
Just a suggestion.

You have:
"Too marginal."
"Jet's a free agent."
"Phoenix isn't trading Nash."
"Too lopsided." (essentially)
What more do you want?

no, old PG and meh center isn't worth all that.
The pick mainly. We have to get younger eventually.

Interesting take from the opposite end of the spectrum. Apparently a non-lottery pick for a 16/10.6 (meh) center is a bad deal.

I'm starting to worry about that non-lottery part.

Sources said Milwaukee has made third-year point guard Brandon Jennings available "for the right price," as one executive who has spoken to the Bucks put it. Jennings, who was drafted 10th overall in 2009 and has been considered the team's future franchise player, irked Bucks officials with his comments to ESPN.com in early February about a possible departure. "I'm going to keep my options open, knowing that the time is coming up,'' he wrote in an e-mail to the Web site. "I'm doing my homework on big- market teams." SI.com
I love jennings. i would trade jet, odom, and roddy for him.
