THE trade to start rebuilding
Saw a similar trade proposal on another forum and thought it was very interesting so changed a couple things and am posting this now. I think it's time to start the process. Read through it and speak your mind.
Dallas Receives:
Michael Beasley, Shawn Marion, Udonis Haslem, Mark Blount, Mario Chalmers, Marcus Banks, Dorell Wright, and a future 1st.
Miami Receives:
Dirk Nowitzki, Josh Howard, Jason Terry, DeSagana Diop, Brandon Bass, Devean George
Why for Dallas:
Simple. Rebuilding starts now. This gets us a No. 2 overall pick big man to build around and sheds all kinds of salary for 2010 and beyond. Approximately $63+ million gone by 2010.
We sacrifice becoming a lottery team and thus giving a better pick to NJ this year but we get Miami's pick to make up for it and all of the sudden transform from an old overpaid team to a young team with potential and cap space. This gives us the ideal platform to stockpile talent while having cap space available should a coveted franchise free agent become available.
Why for Miami:
This move makes Miami ultimate contenders again for at least the next four years and in my opinion puts them at the top of the East. When you have a talent like Wade you just can’t afford to waste his years with rebuilding around him. This makes Miami the most talented team in the East and a true contender for the NBA Championship. Dirk is best suited as a second fiddle guy and that is the perfect role for a team with Wade. Howard is the glue guy, Diop gives them defense and muscle at Center and Terry and Bass give them depth and scoring spark. Dirk gets a better chance than at any time in his career to win a title and seal his Hall of Fame career.
*Salaries match up but deal couldn’t be made until December 15*
Dallas’ Roster:
Damp / Blount
Beasley / Haslem
Marion / S.Williams / Stackhouse
Green / A.Wright
Kidd / Banks / Chalmers
*Marion, Kidd, and Stack ($45 million) come off the books.*
Dallas’ 2009-2010 potential Roster.
Damp / Blount
Beasley / Haslem
Green / S.Williams
Foster / A.Wright / D.Wright
Chalmers / Banks
At the end of the 2010 season Damp, Blount, Haslem, and D.Wright ($ 28 million) all come off the books taking us even further under the cap for a chance at multiple star free agents or, if we don’t nail a star at that point we have a couple more years to stockpile talent/draft picks while being able to continue to develop our youngins and wait for the right FA to come along, much like Portland is doing now.
Miami’s Roster
Diop / Magloire
Dirk / Bass
Howard / J. Jones / George
Wade / Cook
Terry / Quinn / Livingston

Dallas gives Miami another title? Sure, why not...

Personally I'm more concerned with the future of this team than who else is winning championships and I can't help but think that if we don't do something then we are destined for underperforming mediocrity.
Too good to build for the future and too bad to accomplish anything significant. Look at how Portland has transformed that franchise from a laughing stock into the jewel of the league. I truly believe we need to follow that blue print and take advantage of the resources we currently have to set ourselves up for success in the future. In my opinion, this trade would do just that.

I have to admit, that's a pretty effective way of getting rid of Jet's contract and getting back young talent AND salary relief.
I still don't think it will come to this, but that's good work on that trade idea.

Would it work if we kept J-Ho and they kept Marion, and we also give them Stack (for Salary?)

Great trade both for Dallas AND Miami.
The catch is, it's so drastic, such a complete roster turnover... it's not something you can wait and do late in the season if Miami wants to win a title. They'd either need to make it with them right NOW or wait till the off season.

I suspect Miami would want to find a way to keep Marion though. Maybe make us keep Josh Howard. That would probably be the sticking point that would keep it from happening.

His contract would be up by 2010 which is when we would want to have everything off the books by. Even with his disappearing act, he's posting better numbers than Marion, and is part of what little defense we have. I'm all for letting Josh go or stay if we rebuild by 2010, but for the next two years keeping him and Green together would probably be best, whether they start SG and SF or Green comes off the bench for Josh.

I haven't watched any Heat games this year yet, but I've read that Marion is being put down. Like he's lost a step and is an overrated player without Steve Nash. Of course here he'd have Kidd so who knows.

As far as I know, Marion just plays for money and doesn't care, especially with how Phoenix traded him.

Any trade involving the Heat will HAVE to get Wade here. No exceptions, unless they want us to keep Dirk, then we can talk. IMO

the mavs were never in the Michael Beasley, Shawn Marion, Udonis Haslem, Mark Blount, Mario Chalmers, Marcus Banks, Dorell Wright, and a future 1st race in the first place

If we keep Josh Howard we could probably get at least Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers over here (remember the incident this summer?).

That will never happen. If the only way you'll trade Dirk is if you get Kobe, LeBron, Wade, or a player like that... then forget it. Anybody who has a player like that is never going to willingly trade them... and if Dirk was the equal of a Kobe or a Wade then we wouldn't trade him either.
Dirk is not one of those players. He's a great player, but he is not on that level.
The purpose in trading Dirk isn't to get another player who will lead you to a championship this year, it's to get young players who may lead you to a championship in 4 or 5 years.

I'd rather watch the Mavs loose than trade my boys to Miami.
