I think I'm gonna go to the game Sunday. Glad I didn't go tonight, although I got to watch Felix pitch a few weeks ago against the Angels and it was pretty awesome.

*edit* Good call thiggy.

Cliff Lee was good again.

I can't find a pic of a Ranger wearing #6. Somebody help me out.

We've had a 10 game lead before. Just not any higher than that I don't think.

Rangers have the opportunity to officially eliminate the Angels and A's in their own parks this week. Magic number over the Angels is 4 so winning 2 of 3 would take care of them.

It's been brought up several places... there are some problems with the idea.. mainly, it's difficult to just give up on the idea of Hamilton being an outfielder considering how damn good he is at it... and how much he gives the team by being in the outfield with his speed and arm.

But how much is he giving us now given injuries caused by his amazing defense?

We were up 10, now it is 7. We have one more tough matchup tonight and then 4 against Oakland in Oakland. If things go tragic, we would be up a mere 2 games leaving Oakland, but I certainly don't think that will happen. If we can win tonight with CJ pitching and Oakland loses, it is truly over given us finishing with a homestand. If we lose again tonight and Oakland wins, we really, really better come to play in Oakland. If we can just manage to split that series we will of course be fine, even if we enter the series up only 6. Of course the Sunday game is an absolute loss (Cahill on the mound against Lewis and during the day - Lewis is 0-4 against Cahill this year and we HAVE to be <.500 during the day).

The thought of a team falling this far is very rare, but if we don't get our offense back in line it could happen. We have lost 3 of the last 4 games by the following scores:

2-1
2-1
2-0

Just complete bullshit.

If we only win 2 games the rest of the way, Oakland still has to go 9-3 over that stretch just to tie us.

This is obviously not how you want to finish the season, but it's still EXTREMELY unlikely that we're in any danger here.

Oakland has won 4 of 5, including winning a series in Minnesota and possibly sweeping Chicago with a win tonight (with a good pitching matchup in their favor and at home I bet they do).

We have a tough game tonight with CJ pitching against Haren and in LA. That is far from a guaranteed victory, and for the sake of pessimism let's assume we lose and Oakland wins. That puts the lead down to 6 and has us entering Oakland for a big 4 game series with a definite loss in game 4.

If we get swept in that series we have a 2 game lead with 7 to go and we play 3 against Seattle and 4 against LA, all at home. Oakland also has 7 to go after that and they play 3 against LA and 4 against Seattle, all on the road. So yeah, given those final 7 games for both teams and where we play we still should be OK.

Just remember though, them needing to go 9-3 is really them needing to go 5-3 IF they sweep us. Of course we would also need to drop 5 of the final 7 to finish with ONLY 2 wins, but if we get back home after losing 9 of 10 (which is where we would be if we lose to LA and get swept in Oakland) anything could happen with such rattled confidence.

Do I think any of what I just typed will happen? Hell no. I think we win tonight with CJ on the mound and enter Oakland with a 7 game lead (I think Oakland finishes off the sweep of Chicago tonight). I think we get 1 or 2 in Oakland, which puts us either still 7 up with 7 to play OR 6 up with 7 to play.

Given we are at home for the final 7 and Oakland is on the road for the final 7 (we are 48-26 at home and Oakland is 30-44 on the road) that would all but guarantee a playoff spot, but we have to finish strong against LA and try to split in Oakland.

I have to tell you - it is nice to have such a cushion to allow for these 2-1/2-0 type losses that are coming at a really bad time. Get well soon Josh, get well soon.

The Rangers are trying to secure the clinching game in Arlington.

I'm targeting Monday the 27th...since I'll be there, would love to celebrate with the home crowd!!!

Awesome awesome news... If we win today the magic number is 4 and the lead is 8 heading into the series with Oakland. If we split, it's over.

I have no idea what that means (because no human has ever seen it before) but it's happened twice in one night.

I have no idea what that means (because no human has ever seen it before) but it's happened twice in one night.
Despite an 80 point difference in batting average, did you know that Chris Davis' on base percentage is only 33 points below Michael Young's? This season, Davis has had a very nice split between his Average and OBP. Obviously, that would look alot better even if his average was.240-.250. But, it's not. And yes, it is a relatively small sample size for him this year. But, he has shown that he will take a walk this season.

The problem is that in order to accomplish that his power has completely disappeared.

Not like we have any better options though. Moreland has come careening down to earth and I won't be shocked if Davis is our starting 1B in the post season.

We are getting completely shut down once again. I mean, we aren't even putting up a fight. This game will be barely over two hours long.

I don't think his power came down to earth because he's being more selective. His power came down to earth because he hasn't been able to make solid contact at the major league level this year. I have liked the way that he has swung the bat since he returned. I have no idea what his average is in the limited at bats, but he has hit the ball with authority... and he has been more selective.

I wouldn't mind seeing him get a shot to start a few games as the season wraps up. He's obviously the superior defender. I like Moreland's potential bat, but he is in no way swinging the stick all that well right now. I would think that Moreland will probably be the starter, but I would like to see them give Davis a shot to put a hot streak together and maybe get some PT come post season.

Cliff Lee very nearly got killed by that broken bat last night. Those replays were unbelievable.

I was in SF through this morning and very nearly went across the bay to the game last night. Really glad I didn't. Sheesh, talk about not getting it done.

Huh.

Weird game, this baseball.
