Jack Russell Jr.: 21 minutes, 7 points on 7 shots, 5 turnovers, -7 in a 115-104 loss to the Twolves.
Apparently Fizdale benched his ass.

Barnes is still trash. Glad the FO knew it too.
Smith with a bad game, but he only played 22 minutes. That team is doing everything possible to tank.

‘Careless Plays’ Were At The Center Of The Knicks’ Latest Home Loss
New York had 23 turnovers on Friday, which took away any chance to climb back into the game.
“That was the number I wrote on the board for the guys after the game,” Fizdale said. “Careless plays. You can’t give the ball away 23 times.”
Fizdale was exasperated in the moment, and so were the players doing all that turning over.
Fizdale said the Timberwolves “put more focus” on Dotson in the other three quarters, so Fizdale took him out of the game as the lineup shuffled in an effort to get something going. Smith sat long stretches in favor of Mudiay in the fourth quarter, and Fizdale said it was about getting things going as much as anything.
“Mud started getting it going,” Fizdale said. “I just rolled with it.”

dont care how good he plays or how could he will be....it was always a no-brainer deal for the Mavs. Same with giving up a pick to the Hawks

yikes! - we dodged a bullet there - he may have opted-in his $25 million player option.
He played 36 min and scored 2 points WOW.

I've been saying all season that he'd be smart to opt out, but after the way he's played in Sacto, I don't see anyone offering him a 4-year contract that's going to be big enough to justify walking away from that $25m... I figured something like 4/80 was realistic before, but 3/45 might be closer to where he caps out this summer.

People were complaining we got a project player on a rookie deal and cap space and that was it. If he opts in to get that guaranteed 25mill, then we may have made a really strong deal depending on what it nets us.

I just hope Rick stops dicking around with Jackson's minutes. Dunno what he did to earn 3 minutes after scoring 13 the game before.

25m in cap space was always the muuuch better option than having Barnes for 25m in his final year. Even if we strike out...

In OT loss to Bucks, Harrison Barnes (again forced into playing out of position at PF due to Bagley injury) registers +6 in 40 workhorse minutes, 15 points on 11 shots, with 3/6 from 3-pt territory; 14 (fourteen) rebounds.
Should also point out that in the win over the Thunder, where his stat line looked shaky (7 points on 13 shots, 4 boards) he defended Paul George into a bad shot on the potential game-tying 3.
No complaints, no lay-down and quit, no diva-ing, just laces up and goes out to do whatever the team needs, sacrificing his own game and stats, if necessary.
That's why coaches love him.

Bullet's line out of context is misleading. 11 points through 3.5 quarters on 5/14 shooting, all caught up trying to show he is faster than De'Aaron Fox.
Bullet scored 7 empty points in the last half of the final quarter, when the Nix were behind by a dozen, and Sac was playing soft. Garbage points for a garbage player.
Bullet's Sunday matinee line v. Clips was 8 pts on 3/11 shooting in 28 minutes; he "led" the Nix to a 36-point halftime deficit with a staggering -25 in 16 minutes.
In Thursday's loss to the Cavs, Bullet euthanized what should've been a rare NIX win by leaving his feet to throw a characteristically stupid jump pass right into the waiting arms of Jordan Clarkson, resulting in a clear path foul, two free throws, and a 3-point shot on the ensuing possession. Bullet followed that up with a clanged three pointer. One point lead becomes a four-point deficit. Never recovered.
So a lot of times it's not even his raw number of turnovers or missed shots, it's the timing of them. Bullet has an uncanny knack for giving the ball over at crucial times either to snuff out a comeback, or to surrender a lead; saw it with the Mavs, still seeing it with the Nix.

Bullet had 4 points after 3 quarters, by which point NIX were down 20.
With Phoenix daring him to shoot in Q4, he chucked in a handful of meaningless jump shots and slung a couple of lobs at Shenehneh. Nix never got closer than 12. #garbagestats #garbageplayer

We know Smith is trash and is just padding his stats. He did that here too.
We know Jordan can get tip-ins and lobs and rebound. He just can't defend or anchor a defense.
Barnes may be legitimately talented and I wish him success, but he was also just a bad fit here with a bad contract. That's a double whammy.

Saturday 3/9 v. Kings LOSS 94-102
18 (7/19, 2/7, 2/3) | 5A | 1TO | -4
@2:12 Q4 Knicks trailing 94-96 after a Smith layup, Smith assessed a technical foul for elbowing Kings forward Nemanja Bjelica in the midsection.
Dennis Smith: “I retaliated, got us a tech, shouldna did it. Went down and knocked down the free throw, that could’ve changed the game a lil’ bit.”
Sunday 3/10 v. Timberwolves LOSS 92-103
13 (6/15, 0/1, 1/2) | 4A | 5TO | -10
Dennis Smith: "A lot of turnovers, and it starts with me,” said Smith. “I got to do a better job taking care of the ball. Trying to make passes that’re usually there, they’re not there against this team. We had a high-turnover game against them last time. I have to make that adjustment earlier in the game.”

TAFKAJ (The Athlete Formerly Known as Junior)
Tuesday, 3/12 v. Pacers LOSS 98-103
25M |7 (3/8, 1/2, 0/2) | 3A | 4TO
4 points and 2 assists in the first 6 minutes of the game.
3 points and 1 assist over the final 42 minutes of play.
#primetime
Game Recap: After New York called its last timeout, Emmanuel Mudiay hit an off-balance 3-pointer over Thaddeus Young with 19 seconds left to make it 101-98. Indiana then called its final timeout and Dennis Smith Jr. nearly stole the inbound pass in the backcourt. (Ed.: But didn't.)

I was like, thats a pretty nice line for Wesley, and then I saw the 4 turnovers. Catch and shoot Wes. Catch and shoot. That should be all you ever do.

New York Knicks point guard Dennis Smith Jr. (sore lower back) is expected to miss at least the next 3 games.

Assuming he makes it back and plays the Nix final 8 games, he'll have made 67 appearances this year, after 69 last year.
Physically fragile? Mentally fragile? Both?
Is 'no play' better than 'awful play'? Is either better than Mudiay?

Previously, in first game back versus Raptors, coming off bench backing up Mudiay:
LOSS: 20 minutes, 7 points on 11 shots (1/4 3s) 1 assist, 2 turnovers, -13.
Quote:
Speaking for the first time since a back injury forced him out of six straight games, Dennis Smith Jr. said an MRI uncovered some displaced discs and inflammation but he doesn’t seem concerned about the long-term outlook.
The 21-year-old, who was recouped from Dallas in the trade for Kristaps Porzingis, participated in portions of practice Wednesday and is listed as questionable for Thursday’s game against the Raptors.
His availability is contingent on how his back responds to an uptick in activity.
“I don’t know exactly what happened,” Smith said. “I can’t tell you what happened. I just know it wasn’t right, went and got my MRI’s and the doctors saw it and they decided I should sit for a little while until I’m healthy.
Smith is among only five Knicks players with fully guaranteed contracts next season, so his development – and health – takes some degree of precedence.
Many questions concerning Smith remain unanswered going into the Knicks’ fateful summer of 2019:
- Can he be counted on as a point guard of the future? (No.)
- How will his presence shape decisions about point guards in the draft and free agency? (Draft best player possible, PGs step right up.)
- Can this back issue be dismissed as minor and irrelevant, or is there a concern about recurrence? (Fragile.)
Prior to the injury, Smith averaged 14.6 points and six assists on 41.6 percent shooting during his 17 games with the Knicks , but he’s unsure how or why his back flamed up.
“I don’t know man, I’m just playing man. I’m on the floor and all kind of things happen, so I can’t tell you exactly what it was,” he said. “It might have been an accumulation of things. It happened. It was unfortunate. But I’m working right now to try to get back.”
|
Update: DNP in WIN v. Bulls
Update: DNP/Injured in LOSS v. Magic
Knicks with 4 games left to play. Smith's maximum Games Played this year will be 55.
Durability is going to be a concern for potential trading partners whenever the Knicks start shopping him. And they will.
