I don’t know much about Mudiay, but he’s 6’5” and only 23.

Mudiay is interesting, but unnecessary if we end up landing someone like Beverly.

Frank also has a bigger wingspan (7"), so he can easily switch and defend also SF...

Not surprising. A sobering foreshadow of the spending to come...

@wojespn: Sources: Golden State is planning to offer All-Star Klay Thompson a 5-year, $190M maximum contract when free agency opens Sunday at 6 PM ET --- which is expected to accelerate process of GM Bob Myers and Thompson’s agent, Greg Lawrence, quickly reaching formal agreement.

@ShamsCharania: Milwaukee guard George Hill will be waived and become a free agent, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium. Hill had a terrific finish to the season and will be a sought-after combo guard on the market. Bucks are working to find space to re-sign Hill, too.

I see no indication that Vuc is going to accept the deal, only that Orlando is offering that amount.

Ramona Shelburne: Magic Johnson says he will help the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency in any way he can, but he is not permitted by NBA rules to be part of official team meetings with prospective free agents. Johnson said he has not been asked by the Lakers or owner Jeanie Buss to participate.
Marc Stein
✔
@TheSteinLine
According to my guy @stephenasmith ... Kawhi made a personal request to the Lakers that their free-agent meeting include only owner Jeanie Buss and their former team president Magic Johnson
Sam Amick
✔
@sam_amick
With the Lakers now expected to land a Kawhi Leonard meeting, a source tells @TheAthletic that LeBron James AND Anthony Davis are planning on being part of the formal pitch.

Lol so latest is now that LA has decent chances landing Kawhi. If that happens the league can't be taken serious any longer.

I don't know why Kawhi would do that. He has to feel pretty damn good about being one of, if not the best, players in this league. He seems to be very cautious and thoughtful, when most see it as reclusive, which he can definitely be compared to those more comfortable with the spotlight. I think he understands how hard it would be to do it again in Toronto, unless he's absolutely sold on Siakam or the Raptors show him a path to adding another star or more firepower. And about the spotlight, would be no brighter than in L.A.

If 3 of the top 5 players in the league end up on the Lakers, then I wish Luka a great career, but I’m out... It was bad enough to watch Durant pile onto one of the most dominant teams ever, but Kawhi to the Lakers would absolutely kill my interest in the NBA.

While it wouldn't look good, one never knows. The injury bug with those 3 guys makes me wonder the odds of all 3 of them being on the floor at the same time for the playoffs after a long season.
I still remember Nash and Howard signing with Kobe in LA. Most people thought that was a super strong team, but it imploded spectacularly. I really wouldn't mind seeing that happen in LA again except that I do actually like Leonard. I think he's too level headed to get involved in that mess, so I think it's more of a meeting to leverage offers from other teams, which is super smart imo. If people think the Lakers are involved, then any interested parties are more than likely to throw everything and the kitchen sink in their offers.

@wojespn: Denver will bring back Millsap for the final season of his three-year contract at $30.3M, have available their $9.2M mid-level exception AND still stay under the luxury tax. Denver is loaded to compete for the Western Conference title.

@TheHoopCentral: Kemba Walker is on his way to Boston, Celtics are planning on offering Kemba a 4-Year/$141 Million offer shortly after free agency begins, per Woj.

Free agent Kyrie Irving is meeting with the Brooklyn Nets in New York on Sunday and both sides are motivated to move quickly toward reaching a 4-year, $141M deal, league sources tell ESPN.

I expect that the Knicks fans suddenly went from "Kyrie is awesome" to... "He really wasn't our first option we want bigger fish". And when KD and Kawhi sign elsewhere it'll be- "KD would have been a huge risk I'm fine watching Barrett and Julius Randle is really underrated and still developing. Kawhi misses too many games".
Knicks gonna Knick.

That Kyrie deal could age badly. He’s a headcase and always hurt. One of my least favorite players.

@_Andrew_Lopez: Niko Mirotic signing for 6 years and $79.7 million in US dollars.

Would he not have signed for more in the NBA? That breaks down to a little over $13 mil/year.

Its not all about money, its about happiness. He gets to play in a place he likes until he retires. In the NBA he may ends up in six months in Minnesota

TheSteinLine: Talk of Ricky Rubio and a "virtual done deal" with Indiana has been circulating for a week. That's another one many teams have circled as a likely Day 1 verbal agreement after the opening bell sounds at 6 PM Eastern

Doubtful he would have earned more than 15 in the States the rest of his career. Taxes may play some role here but being home for almost same amount of money + bigger endorsement deals in Spain than the US + usually European contracts include accommodation already, not that he would need any.
In short, taxes + endorsement possibilities will at the bare minimum be worth as much as he would get in the States before taxes.

@TheSteinLine: If it was about money, Mirotic would have stayed in the NBA. As @NYTSports reported yesterday, Utah was poised to sign Mirotic to a three-year, $45 million deal -- with the Jazz now shifting their sights to signing to Indiana's Bojan Bogdanovc

Would be nice to see where math supports the idea of earning more in the States. There might be only a marginal edge for staying in NBA but reported math shows so little difference that doubtful it gets bigger. Of course Spain's taxes might be a hell also but I think I know as much as Stein about Spain's taxes that would apply in total.
Thing is also that I can not imagine Mirotic earning more than 15 per year even in the future. Could easily end up out of the league after that 3/15 deal, especially with a major injury in the last year of his contract... Like I said, would like to see arguments how he lost money on his guaranteed deal compared to staying in the NBA.

@wojespn: Once free agency opens at 6 PM ET, center Jonas Valanciunas is expected to commit to a three-year, $45M contract to return to the Memphis Grizzlies, league sources tell ESPN.

@TheSteinLine: An undeniable vibe of confidence is emanating from Brooklyn as we speak: The Nets sure seem to believe they are getting Kevin Durant's commitment tonight to go with Kyrie Irving"s ... with DeAndre Jordan, Durant's close friend, to follow
