Well the Czech Republic has a pretty strong team nothing to be ashamed off. (Well and they didn't even played great) I think it would be a HUGE surprise when the US survives this pool. (well okay I have to see Italy playing once) but from the paper Italy and the Czech republic are by far the favorites imo

I'm gonna watch the Italy-USA game live in Kaiserslautern just like the France-Switzerland game tomorrow in Stuttgart and the Netherlands-Elfenbeincoast (don't know their name, really) game a couple of days later.

I believe you mean Ivory Coast.
Team USA was absolutely lost, lifeless out there today. But the Czech Republic was dominant.

Australia - Japan 3:1
It was just a matter of time. Japan was lucky to get the first goal and then wasted lots of opportunities to score the second. Guus Hiddinks is almost as likeable as D'Antoni but give the Aussies credit for pulling out the victory.
Side note: What I will never understand is how badly players of almost all teams can miss shots from the distance. They practice almost every day but still can't find the target (much like Shaq...). At least make the keeper work. No excuse for shots that go 10 meters wide.

I've been waiting for this game almost as much as I was waiting for the U.S. game.
I don't think Brazil will disappoint me like the American squad did.

Brazil won, but looked very beatable. The defense was poor, and Ronaldo looked horribly out of shape. I would not be surprised to see the Czechs beat them if they play in the round of 16.

Not to sound defensive, but Brazil has a tendency to play down to the level of the competition. Always has. It was a terrible game and the Croatians could have definitely won it in a few individual mistakes, but they'll be OK at the end

South Korea - Togo 2:1
after half an hour I thought this was going to be the worst game of the tournament. but the "Togos" scored a nice goal and things got more exciting. It's always entertaining when you have two sites that like to attack but make mistakes on defense. The red card was probably too much for the Togos to be able to fight back, but they had some good chances.
Side note: so far the stadiums seem to be all sold out, even in this game there were only a few seats without spectators. Probably there will be less people attending the Tunisia - Saudi Arabia game but all in all this has been an exciting tournament to watch.

GREAT game by Germany tonight. the score was 0:0 till they reached the second minute of overtime and then finally the substitute Neuville scored, assisted by the substituted David Odonkor, who is too fast for anyone running 10.4 seconds over 100m in football shoes.
This goal was well deserved and Germany played fantastic offensive soccer, meanwhile even played some really good defense.
The goalie Jens Lehmann played an excellent game but Poland's keeper was even better.
You guys can't believe what is going on in Germany right now. 500.000 people in front of the "Brandenburger Tor" in Berlin. Thousands of people were going crazy in Stuttgart turning the city in one big party. I can't even imagine how it would be when we reached the quarter final, semi final or even the final.

Spain - Ukraine 4:0
The second goal was a bit lucky (deflected free kick) and the red card shortly after halftime against the Ukrainian defender was probably too much, but the Spaniards deserved to win by 4 because they played a refreshingly sound offensive game with a lot of nice combinations and they created a lot of opportunities. The Ukraine probably still think they can advance with wins over Tunisia or Saudi Arabia.

Honest question, why do you guys use colons instead of hyphens for the score?

Trinidad & Tobago is awesome. I love Shaka Hislop. They are going to be my new favorite team, especially if the U.S. no-shows against Italy.

Ecuador - Costa Rica 3:0
Ecuador was clearly the better team (and they have a player that looks like Sean Penn...). Costa Rica never really had a chance. Now Germany must win if they want to finish first and avoid England in the next round.

Netherlands put on a strong performance today. It was a great game between them and the Ivory Coast. These dutch guys have gotten some kind of dicipline now and I'm loving it.

Argentina - Serbia 6:0
Very impressive performance by Argentina. Solid on defense, brilliant on offense. Beautiful combinations and individual performances. Several "best goals of the tournament". Argentina is now the team to beat.
btw. I can't stand Maradona...

Portugal - Iran 2:0
The Portuguese were clearly the better team, but they had problems finding the goal. Ronaldo did his usual fancy stuff, without being very successful, like always. The Iranians played very hard, even kicked Figo in the face, but they played like most of the weaker teams, having few chances and wasting all of them.

Phew, Pesky Aussies!
The spectacle wasn't there, but there was a definite improvement over last game.
Brazil is through to the next round with a 2-0 victory over Australia.

Didn't they tie? I believe they're gonna need a win to go through to the next round. Congrats on the first goal in two world cup appearances though :P

What an effin goal by Joe Cole. I'm watching the Brazilian broadcast since the beginning and the play-by-play guy kept saying it from the kick off on "Lampard is famous, Beckham is famous.......... but Joe Cole is the one who really plays ball."
Freaking nostradamus after that goal.

In full world cup mode now, eff the NBA.
Sweden is a very tough team, but seems like a great matchup for Germany. Sweden's aerial attack will meet its match with Germany's excellent defense, particularly in this specific discipline.
England is probably going to win as well over Equador. What a tough group that was!

I've never watched World Cup except for little bits. Now that I need a new, favorite sport that is fair and impartial I need to know more. Who are the good teams? Who isn't. My wife is from Berlin. I guess that means I have to be a fan of Germany? What is the prognosis for them winning? Where can I get some Germany gear?

Germany - Ecuador 3:0
Very impressive win. What I liked most about it is the accurate passing of the Germans. They make smart decisions with the ball and don't waste too many chances. I think they will win against Sweden but then, when they face Argentina or the Netherlands, let's see how good they really are.

Ha I have been in the Berliner Olympiastadium to see Germany-Ecuador live yesterday.
It was a great experience we have cheered the whole time for the team and it was so cool. Germany getting an early goal got us going. And even Podolski (one of germans player got a goal ... I don't like him he needs too many chances to do anything) played okay. Another good thing was that we were all friendly to another that's how it should be sometimes some hooligans can destroy that but yesterday it wasn't that way

Same experience here. I've been to Portugal-Angola in Cologne with my soccer crazy chilean girl-friend. It was an absolutely great experience. The game was rather awful, but the atmosphere was something special. You could feel the crowd was somehow captured by the special moment. Everybody was friendly, we even had an Portuguese woman sitting next to us explaining us the meaning of her national flag. The weather was great, we had an late evening game, everything was well organized. The La Ola was probably going round about 20 times. The highlight from a German perspective was probably hearing all the Germans in the crowd singing "Viva Colonia" full out loud...it was a blast.
Yesterday my sister has been to the Eng-Swe game... I HATE HER FOR THAT ;-))
Come on DEUTSCHLAND!!!

I have to admit, with the World Cup in full gear, I already have put behind all the disappointment of four losses in a row for the Mavs. I think the World Cup is great, it brings so many nations together and so far I have seen a lot of entertaining games. Tonight I'll watch Mexico-Portugal. Can't wait to see Ronaldo doing is 'football ballet'. I am sure a lot of people hate to see him doing that, but I just love it.

Portugal - Mexico 2:1
Iran - Angola 1:1
In the second half Mexico down by one, Angola just needed one goal to advance to the next round. So I switched between the games to see if it could get interesting. All I saw was Iran attacking and scoring the equalizer. That was simply pathetic by the Angolians. Mexico wasted a penalty and tried to get another one by diving in the penalty area. Result: red card. No way Mexico will beat Argentina in the next round.
