Default What if Kobe becomes a Spur?

Now that the trades are done for the season, let's look a bit further. There is a slight chance that Kobe changes uniforms this year. If it is not a jailhouse jumpsuit where might he end up and how will it affect the Mavs? Clippers, Nuggets, Spurs?
Clippers will become a playoff team? Nuggets will go to the WCF? Spurs will be unbeatable for years to come? From the Mav's perspective, do we want him to stay in LA, move to a weaker team or found guilty or doesn't it matter?
I think the Spurs with Kobe could target 70 wins a season.

I suspect Kobe will move to the Eastern conference and to a team where HE is the undisputed star. Just imagine how much Kobe would be worshiped in Chicago...

I think Kobe ends up in Phoenix, but that is just me.

Kobe in the East would be great for the NBA. He could meet 4 times a year with T-Mac, AI, Pierce, and Marbury and have great playoff showdowns. On a weaker team, like Atlanta, Washington or Chicago he could show that he can turn thinks around and that he is a better team leader than T-Mac.
Just a hypothetical question regardless of position: What would it take to get Kobe in a trade?

1. Dirk
2. Finley and Josh
3. Nash and Najera
4. Walker and Jamison

Pheonix or the Clippers would be my best guess - and that's assuming he leaves the Lakers, which is a little hard to fathom.

IF he does decide to leave, most have assumed that he would go to the Clipps so that he could live in the same place and work at the same place. That way, his life, in general, wouldn't change much.

Personally, I think there may be a possibility that Kobe wants a completely fresh start. IF HE IS PROVEN INNOCENT (sometimes goes unsaid), does he want to stay around a life that may remind him of everything, or would he want a clean slate somewhere else. I wonder if that would affect his decision.

Can't imagine him in SA though...

phoenix looks good because stoudemire is very young and kobe can be a leader on that team

Exactly, Kobe will not take the backseat again behind Duncan. He had enough with that scenario in LA. Kobe will go East next year. Most likely the Hawks. Money talks !

Kobe dislikes Popovich- probably more than he dislikes Jackson.
If you combine that with the common thought that Kobe doesnt want to leave LA

he will not be in San Antonio next year.

I hate to agree with Stephen A. Smith but he isnt leaving LA

Kobe has many options.

ATL- $$$

LAC- Wont wanna leave LA, but does wanna leave Shaq.

DEN- Not gonna happen, they f****** hate him.

MEM- Jerry West is a monster when it comes to making deals. Also can run his own team.

PHO- $$$

SAS- Duncan = O'neal

PHI- Home Town

But Kobe is staying in LA. Clippers or Lakers

Assuming Kobe leaves LA, he's going to go where he's #1.

I thought Amare Stoudamire had a problem with Stephon Marbury for not sharing the ball enough and forgetting he had a team around him?? Not saying he couldn't get along with Kobe, but would Phoenix sign him knowing they could lose Stoudamire down the line?

Philly would love to get rid off AI but is afraid of empty seats in the arena.

Who could replace him better than hometown boy Kobe?

I think Kobe should move East. No more Shaq/Kobe stories!

I would love for the SG's in Philly and LA to swap homes. AI would instantly take the Lakers from contenders to a team that wouldn't be a favorite for home court in the playoffs. Kobe would be in the East. It sounds good to me.

Associated Press
DENVER -- Despite the harsh reception he received during his last game in Denver, Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant said he will consider the Nuggets among various free-agent suitors when the season ends.

The Nuggets are expected to make a run at Bryant during free agency this summer. Bryant said Wednesday he would listen.

"As I've been saying, at the end of the season I'm going to sit down and evaluate every option and break down every team, and Denver is one of them," Bryant said at a shootaround before Wednesday night's game.

Bryant last played here Jan. 7 -- his first game in Denver since being charged with sexually assaulting a woman at a Colorado resort last summer. He was booed during pre-game introductions and every time he touched the ball.

Asked if he expected the same reaction Wednesday night, he said, "I don't know. The last time we came here, what I'm focused on is the fact that they beat us pretty bad (113-91). I want to come in tonight and see if we can't return the favor."

Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe has urged fans to use their energy cheering for the Nuggets instead of directing negative comments toward Bryant.

"I appreciate that," Bryant said. "That's something that he didn't have to do, but he did it. It shows a lot of support on his part. It goes a long way with me."

Fans in other NBA cities hoping to land Bryant have eased up on the booing, including San Antonio and Phoenix.

Denver would be a more attractive option for Bryant than in recent years because the team is competitive.

The Nuggets haven't reached the playoffs since 1995, but they entered Wednesday night's game with a 32-26 record, and Bryant has noticed.

"I think they've improved tremendously," he said. "The job Kiki has done has been masterful, how quickly he's been able to turn things around. You have to consider them a serious playoff contender. They've been having a great season."

///////////////////

If Kobe makes Denver into a title contender, no Nuggets fan will ever care about the hotel worker again.
If he struggles, they will throw him under the next avalange.

It would be a bold move, for sure.

But from a Mavs fan perspective he hopefully moves to the East.

Default RE:What if Kobe becomes a Spur?

A few things to add:

Kobe does NOT dislike Pop. In fact Kobe thanked him publicly for comments that Pop made in support of Kobe before the all-star break, said Pop was a class act.

Kobe will most likely stay with the Lakers but my second guess would be the Suns. Kobe would be the man surrounded by young talent that plays his style of game plus he would be playing for his idol Mike. When Kobe said he wanted to "be like Mike", he said he was reffering to his b-ball idol #8 (Kobe's jersey # is in his honor), who now coaches the Suns.

The Grizz are next in line for the same reasons as the Suns plus they have Mr. Logo who Kobe considers a mentor and gave thanks on several occasions for making him a Laker and has worn the #45 Laker jersey on many public occasions.

I don't see him playing for the Clips, too many headaces with Magette.

Philly booed him and made him cry when he was MVP of the all-star game.

No way he goes to dumps like Atlanta and the Jazz are way too restrictive in their half court set for Kobe.

Default RE:What if Kobe becomes a Spur?

This was brought up a while back on local sports radio here............

It has been suggested (not by me, some so-called expert) that Kobe could end up in Houston.............goes a lil something like this........If I remember correctly.

Steve Francis is a BYC player and that ends in August.......making it much more likely he wont be traded until then, making it easier for him to be traded. And note, by August when SF's BYC status ends, we will know if Kobe is headed to jail or will be aquitted of the charges and will play basketball next season.

Rockets also have a $7 million dollar trade exception which they will definitly use this offseason to better the team.

So it would be............Steve Franchise= $7 million dollar trade exception for Kobe.

It has been rumored that the luxury tax will be eliminated after this season........this was one issue that held the Rockets back form free spending like thy used to do in the late 90's. However, I dont know there current cap situation. And if remember correctly, I dont think it was all that pretty either. But there owner Les Alexander as we all know in the past, loves bringing big names to town, no matter how bad there situation was. He brought, Clyde Drexler, Charles Barkley, Scottie Pippen, almost had Damon Stoudamire etc..............will Kobe be added to the list? It kinda makes sense, so I can see this team added to this "Kobe sweepstakes" in the offseason.

BTW......Havent checked to see if that would work out on RealGM..............partly cause I can care less.

EDIT..............I dont care what anyone (poster or expert) says.........KOBE WILL BE A KNICK!!!!!!!!!
He's a showman. If the LA stage is not good enough for him, he will just look for a bigger stage. And the only place he can go from there is to play in the mecca of backetball, MSG as a Knick.
