Default Rangers Moves

1. Texas has officially signed righthander Chris Young to a three-year contract that also includes a club option for 2008. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Todd Wills of the Dallas Morning News reported this morning that it's a $1.5 million deal.

2. Texas has claimed second baseman Ruddy Yan off waivers from the Chicago White Sox. Yan was one of the eight players that the White Sox made available to the Rangers at the time of the Carl Everett trade in the summer of 2003. A member of Chicago's 40-man roster until being placed on waivers, he goes onto the Rangers' 40-man roster by virtue of the claim.

3. The Rangers also signed 15 players to minor league deals for 2005, inviting the following 13 to big league spring training: pitchers Rosman Garcia, John Wasdin, Lou Pote, Agustin Montero, Shane Bazzell, Vladimir Nunez, Jose Veras, and Jason Standridge; infielders Manny Alexander and Esteban German; and outfielders Chad Allen, Jason Conti, and Andres Torres.

First baseman Jason Hart and shortstop Jace Brewer were also signed to minor league contracts but were not invited to big league camp.

You can't build a good team by claiming other teams waivers. They need to sign some impact pitchers more than anything else. Rogers and Drese had great years but they aren't #1 or #2 starters. I'd say more like 4's and 5's. For this team to make the next step they can't keep going backward in salary or in talent.

I hate that it looks like we're gonna wait around before signing any real FAs. Among the minor leaguers, it's nice to have Conti & Allen around for depth, I suppose. I also see that Jason Botts has made the roster. I saw him in a Rough Riders game last year, he looks like a nice young slugger.

The fact of the matter is...they cleared all this cap in hopes of a big FA pitcher falling...they knew Wood was a longshot, but they got screwed b/c the Yankees blew a 3-0 lead so they are headhunting for a pitcher and the Rangers can't compete with them...Maybe next year theyll get one, but I am interested in seeing how Ricardo pans out after the elbow deal, Chris Young, maybe Kenny for the first half...then struggles the second, and hopefully Benoit will receive a permanent role...it would be awesome if he could be a starter b/c we all know he has the best 5 innings out of anyone...plus drese and dominguez and loe and other youngstas

I am still hoping for Lowe, Millwood, and maybe Ortiz as additional starting pitchers.

Add a DH. One who hits for avg and power.

Resign EY, Dellucci, and the bullpen guys.

Let's go at it again.

Looks like Dellucci may go elsewhere..

Dellucci weighs 7 contract offers

Free-agent outfielder David Dellucci is still mulling contract offers from various teams, but when he narrows his list to two or three, Arizona will be one of them.

"David has had a positive and successful history with the Diamondbacks and naturally, Arizona could be a very nice fit for him," Dellucci's agent, Gregg Clifton, said Monday.

Dellucci, 31, who hit .242 with 17 home runs and 61 RBIs last season in 331 at-bats for the Texas Rangers, has seven offers, Clifton said, including Arizona, Texas, Philadelphia, Florida, Colorado, Tampa Bay and Los Angeles. advertisement

The Diamondbacks' biggest competition could be from the Rockies, who have offered a two-year deal. Arizona offered a one-year contract, worth about $800,000, that includes a one-year club option.

It may take a salary closer to $1 million, however, to lure Dellucci back to Phoenix as the club's everyday right fielder.
