The other Mavs in the Metroplex (and the first) started their season this past week....after a tough loss to TCU, UTA came back and whupped up on University Texas Permian Basin......

BUT on Wedensday UTA went to Las Cruces New Mexico to take on New Mexico State Univeristy........UTA absolutely HANDLED NMSU, shooting 62% from the field and beating then by 21 points........one of the biggest non-conference wins in UTA history, good NMSU squad on the road........

UTA will travel to Wyoming to take on the University of Wyoming this saturday.......

I noticed that yesterday as I was checking scores. Don't know what they have now, but New Mexico State used to be a pretty good progeam...good win for UTA.

NMSU is not as good as normal......but they are a very solid team..especially at home.....

UTA also played a good Wyoming team close in Laramie.....only losing by 6.....

UTA will be playing Texas Wesleyan on Tuesday, where they will raise their first ever championship banner.........UTA won the SLC regular season championship last year (it was a tri-championship, but UTA owned all the tie-breakers)

UTA beat Texas Wesleyan 77 - 72 on Tuesday.......on Saturday the University of San Diego Toreros make their first trip to Texas Hall.....game is at 3:00

Yes they are......BUT

our new President has since day one called Texas Hall a "temporary" facility........there will be an announcememt in the spring semester regarding the arena / football issue......

it appears that UTA is going to start a MASSIVE capital campaing covering football, a new arena, and addressing numerous academic issues........Southeastern Louisiana did something like this recently (but only football and academic buildings) and raised well over 80 million dollars.........

the reason I (and others) believe this to be the case is that the football announcment was originally going to be late December, but Pres Spaniolo said this past week he wants to issue the statement to the students while they are in session.......if I was giving bad news I would want to keep it as small as possible, in terms of backlash (end of december would be PERFECT, NO students)......but if I am giving good news I want everyone to hear it......

Just a week after he announced the football decision will be held until spring they announced that the arena issue will be addressed as well.........

my gut and my business sense tell me to be optimistic about this move...........

but currently we are playing games in Texas Hall.....

The Mavs handed USD their 23rd consecutive road losing streak....UTA held a lead as large as 25, but USD mounted a challenge and ultimately fell short

UTA students (with ID) get in for free......

UNM is a very good team who is making their first trip to UTA, the Mavericks suffered a tough loss against South Florida last week but always play tough at home.......if you want to see some quality College Basketball I will see you at Texas Hall tonight.......
