GDT: Jazz @ Mavs February 23rd - 7:30 CST/8:30 EST
The red hot Mavs look to continue building momentum off of their 3-game win streak prior to the All-Star Break. The Mavericks have won 13 of their last 14 games (including 14-of-16). Their one loss over the course of the past 14 contests came as a result of an Arron Afflalo buzzer-beater at Denver on 2/10 (lost 121-120). Dallas is averaging 106.0 points per game over the last 14 games on 48.8 percent shooting. Opponents have averaged 99.4 points per game and shot 45.8 percent against the Mavericks in the span. The Jazz have yet to win a game since Jerry Sloan's departure from the team.
The Mavericks look to improve to 3-0 against the Jazz this season with a win at American Airlines Center on 2/23/11. Dallas has won the last 15-of-18 match-ups at home, including a wire-to-wire victory over Utah on 12/11/10 (Seats for Solders Night). Dirk Nowitzki led the way for Dallas with a team-high 31 points and a game-high 15 boards. Nowitzki is averaging 28.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists against the Jazz this season. Jason Kidd is averaging 9.0 points and 8.0 assists against Utah in 2010-11. Jason Terry is averaging 13.0 points and 3.0 steals.
Dallas is 20-9 (.690) against plus-.500 teams this season. The Mavericks were 28-19 (.596) against teams with a winning record in 2009-10.
you can read the practice report from Tuesday here

Utah will try to get it going after the break. They lost 4 straight and only won 4 of the last 17. Better be ready.

Can't think of it as an easy win. The Jazz are vulnerable for sure, but also well rested and hungry for a win.
Major trades like this one can often galvanize a team to play above their talent level so the Mavs will need to show some killer instinct tonight. Jump out to an early lead and don't look back.

Yep, Denver spanked the Grizzlies right after Melo got traded...

Added Jason Terry: “I don’t care if John Stockton and Karl Malone come out here tonight. We’re hungry. We’ve been off six days. We want to play somebody. We’re just excited for the challenge.”

I feel sorry for Utah fans.. big time.. and Denver. Makes you think about how great of an organization we have. No way the MFO would up and trade Dirk out of the blue like that. We dont have to worry about our star wanting to leave us.. (did any of us really? I didnt.)
I also dont think Utah or Denver got terribly bad deals.. but losing a star like both of these teams is a big hit to the fan base and momentum.

I agree with Bob Ross. Is there a way we can pry away Paul Millsap away from Utah for nothing? Doesn't he play like Brandon Bass? He would be a good backup no?

I dont feel sorry for Utah or Denver...especially the way their fans treat us...when we go to Salt Lake City, the fans boo the hell out of us.....and the Pepsi Center is just as bad
F'em...F' both of those cities.....oh and NY and MIA

I think Denver got the better end of the deal while Utah did get some nice picks (this years draft though is weak at the top which will hurt Utah), Denver got Wilson Chandler who i have felt for a bit he is quite underrated, Felton is ok, and Gallo though he plays no defense has potential to be a great scorer, Mosgov is raw but also with potential

NO doubt, first class organization all around. Just mentioned today, Jets 4 games away from guaranteeing his deal for next year, how many teams would screw with his PT to get out of the final year.
Losing a stud, sets you back a couple years. Favors has some game behind him, but will he get on the floor with Millsap in front of him, couple years away, Harris is a nice pickup but do you move him out, knowing AK47 is gone too. Do you bring in a vet to show Favors the ropes. Plus with NJ's unprotected 2011 pick and GSW's (1-7 protected) 2012 pick, they have pieces to make a big move.
