Thought it would be easier to talk about all that goes on and picks in one thread.

If this is TNT's last time to televise the draft, who will bring it next year? ESPN?

With the first pick in the NBA draft...the Rockets select Yao Ming.
Hayes, Lucas, Sampson, Olajuwon....Ming. All Rocket first round picks. Seems odd.

Sorry, I thought this was the "word association" thread.

They just said Yao was 21 and will turn 22 in a couple months? I thought he was 24.

Why do they give the first pick time to make their pick a la "put them on the clock". They have the first pick. They knew they would have the first pick for a month. Do they really need 15 more minutes?
Do you think Rudy looked at his watch and said, "OK guys, it is 6:01, who we gonna pick? The asian kid?"

interesting and funny point Dooby.
They asked Ming if he knew anything about his new teammates. One of his responses was that they are short. HA!

Doc, I am headed home. Further highjinks tomorrow. I am leaving you here with Mr. "Draft for need at the 55th pick" Bayliss here. On occasion, chime in and tell him he is wrong for me.
Just kidding.

3 for 3 so far in the tipping comp, but the top 3 were pretty well known. Here's hoping skeeta and gooden get chosen next.. in that order. Chad Ford is reporting that the NVE for Kurt Thomas and Charlie Ward deal is going down. (REALGM.com)

Damnn... Gooden. So it seems like Memphis will be keeping the pick. Here's where the draft gets interesting, there are a heap of guys that can slide to a lucky team in the 10-15 range.

The fifth pick is rumoured to be traded in a 3 way trade, invovling McDyess to NY. If Hilario is taken, then expect a trade.

It's on the Draft Update Pages, here's the rumours...
7:56 PM: Chad Ford reports that the Grizzlies may have a deal in place for Miami's #10 pick. Gooden may be involved in that trade.
7:39 PM: Chad Ford also reports that the Knicks and Mavs are talking about a Nick Van Exel for Kurt Thomas and Mark Jackson trade.
7:38 PM: Chad Ford of ESPNews reports that the Cavaliers will pick DeJuan Wagner with the #6 pick if Miller is traded.
7:20 PM: Chad Ford of ESPNews reports that the Denver/Knicks trade could be a 3-way with Cleveland. Cle sends Andre Miller and Tyrone Hill to the Knicks. The Knicks send Camby, Ward & #7 to Denver. Denver sends McDyess to Cleveland.
7:05 PM: Peter Vecsey reports the Knicks are close to acquiring McDyess and #25 for Camby, Jackson and #7. Talks are underway to try and convince McDyess to not opt out after next season.
6:46 PM: David Aldridge reports the Knicks/Nuggets deal may come back as a 3-way deal. Washington may be talking to New York about acquring the 7th pick as well.
6:35 PM: David Aldridge from ESPN reports that the Nuggets are talking to Knicks about trading McDyess, Posey and the 5th pick to the Knicks for Camby, Mark Jackson and the #7 pick. Knicks would take Nene Hilario at 5, Nugs take Tskitshivili at 7. Aldridge notes that McDyess has said he would opt out of his contract in this case, so the deal may not take off.

Dooby, I don't see him as a bust. He may never be a superstar but I figure he'll average around 12-14 points, 10-11 rebounds, and 2-3 blocks over 10-12 years.
Nothing new with picks 1-5.
And then Cleveland drafts Wagner. Bad pick. Should've went with Butler.

The Suns must be thrilled so far.... as at least two of Hilario, Wilcox, Jeffries or Butler will be available for them.

8:08 PM: Chad Ford reports that Denver's trade of James Posey is apparently off. If they had traded Posey, they would have chosen Caron Butler with their first pick.
Who do the Clippers choose now? They won't get Butler, they have a SF (unless they are trading Odom), maybe Stoudamire, maybe Wilcox, maybe even just going for the decent C Borchardt

Wilcox... maybe they are trading it? Another update from realgm.com : 8:14 PM: Vecsey says the NY/Denver deal is a "conference call" from being done. Camby, Mark Jackson and the rights to Nene Hilario for McDyess and the 25th pick.
That sounds like a BAD deal for the Knicks..... Nene for McDyess is bad enough
