Does anyone here watch Treme? I got The Wire complete series on DVD for Christmas and loved it, so I'm thinking about watching the second season of Treme starting this Sunday if it's anywhere near as good as The Wire.

No I missed it. I figured I'd start on this season and go back and watch the first season if I liked it.

I started reading Game of Thrones in February and finished reading all 4 books by March. Epic. Except Feast for Crows was a chore to get through. George RR Martin is the slowest writer in the world. He better not die before he completes the series or I will be pissed.

And the HBO show is epic.

I WANT A DIREWOLF.

I'm going to start the books in a couple of weeks, as soon as final exams are over. I'm very excited.

George RR Martin isn't afraid to kill off popular and main characters. Although many people don't like this, it makes things more interesting.

Seriously? I cannot believe that's being made into a TV series. I'll have to go out and get the books as soon as possible. They've been on my to do list, but I was re-reading the Wheel of Time..

Evangeline, oh, Evangeline
You came and went so soon, it seems
But where did you run to, where did you dream
That you were always meant to go
I could see the wanderlust in your eyes
So it shouldn't take me by surprise
You were a drifting damsel in disguise
Cause inside I've always known
Evangeline, may you one day find a home.

I am, indeed, writing a song about Kate from LOST. Any ideas for what else to do with it? I'm planning to include the lines "Whatever the case may be," "Born to run," and "I do," in it, because those are Kate-centric episodes.

I catch Family Guy and Colbert Report every so often, and that Starz show, Party Down, was pretty funny while it lasted. Top Gear USA is okay, but I'm not sure Adam Ferrara is ever going to grow on me. I thought the last episode of the season was by far the best one, so we'll see.
New addition to the list: Sons of Anarchy

May I quote myself from the book thread.

If you like fantasy, I'm totally with the author of this thread - you have to read the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series by George R.R. Martin.

IMO, up to it's current state, it's the best fantasy series I've ever read - and yes, that includes LotR. If that's still the case when he finished the series - don't know.
Every really good story needs a good ending first, so we'll see. I started the series 8 years ago, and I'm still constantly checking the relevant websites for information about release dates etc. . If you are into fantasy - get it.
To describe it further, it's not like your usual "get the next UBER-sword"/"the next evil UBER-mage to fight with" etc. fantasy. A lot of politics, schemes and so on.
The title "Game of Thrones" describes it very good - a lot of players, trying to pull the right thread to move the puppet in their direction. VERY limited usage of magic, dragons etc..

Aside of it, I have read all Discworld novels, and some AD&D stuff by R.A. Salvatore.
The last (fantasy) thing I read, was the whole "Malazan: Book of the Fallen" series by Erikson, which has its good and weak sides. A simply huge story, and I hope the author still has an overview. If you try it, don't be disappointed if you don't get everything the first book covers - the next books will reward you for every strand of story you didn't understand.
Now for me this series is pretty much a dream come true.
I still remember participating in the various virtual casting threads around the fandom boards, no one about it becoming reality some day.

And now - wow.

PS: If I could erase my mind to read the books for the first time again - I would.

I'll be honest..... I have searched my local half price books on multiple occasions for the series. But, I haven't been able to find one that had the first book in the series. And that's pretty much how I buy all of my books.. from half price books at a discount.

But, I haven't looked for it this year. I looked for it last probably last October/November. Actually, I looked for it shortly before this past Wheel of Time book.

I am reluctant to start it partly because it looks as if it could take the author another decade to finish it at this pace.

No doubt. I'm currently on book 4. The first three books I just couldn't put down. Its really nothing like LOTR. I don't mean that a diss to LOTR, but the writing style is totally different. I love the humor and the fact that it can be totally brutal.

Starting book 4 has been like starting Season 2 of The Wire. Where are the Barksdales? What happened to Stringer Bell? Where did all these white folks come from? WTF?

I'm sure I'll ending up loving it though, just like I did The Wire.

Good job of catching up!
Still, you got the easy way - imagine waiting on these books for YEARS.
8 weeks to go, though! Aaaaaaaah!

Hmmm...if I had to wait years for Book 4, I might be a little pissed at the result. I'm looking for a Maverick-like comeback in Book 5.

Last night's GOT definitely took the show up to another level. I've been personally lukewarm to the show so far, but if it keeps going like the last night...wow.

Treme is killing this season. IMO, they have ventured away from making N.O. an actual character and focused on the people more. Some great story arcs are occurring this season. I absolutely love the show. The music is just icing on the cake.

Man, I just don't see how anyone could have been "lukewarm" to it...All season has been fantastic to me.

Well, most of "us" were. In the beginning, the 4th. was supposed to cover all POV's, not just the southern ones. He couldn't make it, and put out some bad Methadon, I guess. But then again, ADwD is going to make up for the wait - hopefully.

If you are on a dry stretch - may I suggest the short stories "The Hedge Knight"? They are set some decades before the action in GoT - so you get a nice impression of Targaryen rule and a lot of fluff around it.

I interrupt this Game of Thrones thread to bring something of great joy to those that watch Parks and Rec:

Attorney General orders more episodes of the “The Wire”, or a movie

http://blogs.reuters.com/frontrow/20...re-or-a-movie/

Me thinks he needs to watch the existing episodes again.

I never thought South Park would make me depressed. Looks like we may be on the last 7 episodes...

Matt and Trey are under contract for 7 more episodes... so this is entirely possible.

Starting book 4 has been like starting Season 2 of The Wire. Where are the Barksdales? What happened to Stringer Bell? Where did all these white folks come from? WTF?

I'm sure I'll ending up loving it though, just like I did The Wire.

Book 4 is so slowwwwwwwwwww. I can't wait for book 5. sOOOON.

So, have any of y'all taken a break from the Mavericks celebration to watch the most recent episode of Game of Thrones? Feelings? Thoughts?

I don't have hbo, but I heard the show has nudity and horse decapitations, which just happen to be my first and 3rd favorite things in life, in no particular order.
