How much would you pay for the 12-20 Knicks?
Probably not $133 million.
New York's payroll is $40 million over the estimated $53 million luxury-tax threshold, according to a New York Post report Friday. Owner James Dolan will have to pay the additional $40 million since the luxury tax is 100 percent for anything over the barrier.
General manager Scott Layden will give an update on the Knicks' situation before Friday night's game against the 76ers. It is unlikely New York will make a trade before the Feb. 20 deadline since they aren't looking to add future payroll, the newspaper reported.
The Knicks are currently 4 ½ games out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
