I personally would like all the areas to be accessable from the main forum listing. That way the people who post political threads will be happier (because who would look at ugly, partisan politics anyway but especially if it is in a corner of the lounge) and I personally think it will be more aethetically pleasing.

Since you can directly access both forums through the main index, I think either way is fine, but I agree that it might just look better to have 2 regular forums.

- Good idea to have a separate section for the political stuff.

- I'd prefer a special forum for it. It just would mean to lessen a row in the navegation menu.
